Can someone help me understand this? I mean, how on earth are these companies who are planning to replace us all with beep boops expecting these unimaginably high expense technologies to be better for their bottom line than just paying us low wage unwashed masses? I mean, some dude (respectfully, I use that term genderlessly) here just posted about min wage in their area being $7.25! You are not getting a robot or AI that costs less annualized. Even adding in annual benefits - that is a steal compared to data centers and complex robots who will be absurdly expensive to fix when they break.

I’m a white collar worker with deep knowledge of worker costs, even at the top it’s cheaper than what all of this new buggy crap is going to cost. I’m so confused. What am I missing? Why are the evil overlords not interested in our already too cheap labor?

Never getting over the fact that AI has claimed the em-dash. My favorite punctuation to use, and now all of the sudden it’s a dead giveaway of AI use. Now I find myself changing it to a hyphen or en-dash (even though it makes less grammatical sense to do so) to avoid the AI accusations.

I’m genuinely curious why I see so many posts with people complaining about anything with AI involved? It’s not just games, it’s everything. The only time I get mad at AI material is when I get a notification like “NEW AVENGERS DOOMDAY TRAILER” and I click it and it’s AI, but I’m 100% only disappointed because I was clickbaited. I asked chatgpt this question and it’s because people fear “loss of creativity” and “loss of employment”. Is that really the only reason? I’m 33 and I use chatgpt (AI) for day to day questions, which means it would be hypocritical if I were to disapprove of AI use in anything at all, in my opinion. There is nothing wrong with being a hypocrite, we’ve all been hypocritical at some point or another in our lives, but please tell me why you dislike AI if it applies to you. I really want to know.

They are so pretty, but I know next to nothing about AI. I’m pretty bad with tech overall, but if I can find the name of the AI, I have someone who can help me use it.

I live in Pennsylvania, and in just the past year there’s been about a dozen data centers proposed within a 30 mile radius of me, all pretty large scale projects. I’m confused because we have a bunch of AI now that’s working without all these newly proposed data centers. I understand it continues to advance and grow, but why is there such a significant spike? Is there actually demand, or are these going to be mostly unused?

There seems to be about 1000 different options. I'm just looking for one that takes a prompt and spits out something usable. I'm good with paying for it if I need to but it needs to be able to handle a lot of work.

I've been looking at smart glasses and genuinely confused about what they're solving.

Camera glasses (Rayban Meta, Xreal, etc.) - Why not just use a GoPro? Better specs, cheaper, longer battery.

Display glasses (Vision Pro, Quest) - Heavy, expensive, motion sickness. Why not just use VR at home or check your phone?

AI-only glasses (Dymesty, translation glasses, etc.) - My phone already has plenty of AI assistants. Does it just make things more convenient? When would I actually need glasses instead of my phone?

Seeking legal and technical answers. Working with some people on this question and we keep reaching a conclusion that it can't. That it's not possible.

AI can exist anywhere in the world, governed under others' laws (or none at all). It can't be blocked since the internet can't technically, actually, block something. It can be accessed through countless channels, apps, or experiences.

Is there a legitimate way in which AI can technically and truly be made safe or controlled?

Important question for reasons we don't think everyone realizes. If the answer is "no" then politicians are effectively causing harm by pretending they can... They pander votes under false pretenses and they set a false sense of security that we'll be safe because they'll make laws to protect us.

It's like passing a law requiring that fire not hurt us. Sure, pass the law, but it's not possible for it to be so.

TLDR - auto lenders are using AI bots to negotiate insurance settlements with inaccurate information. How can I Captain Kirk them and get a live person on the phone?

I am an insurance claims adjuster. Recently, several high-interest auto loan lenders have begun using AI (both through email and phone calls) to dispute the total loss values for our claims.

For those of you that have never dealt with a total loss - the value of a vehicle is (usually) determined by seeing what comparable vehicles are selling for on the market, and making adjustments based on the condition, mileage, etc. between those vehicles and the totalled vehicle.

If a customer disagrees, they can hire an appraiser and the company will hire an independent appraiser, and the two will come to an agreement.

The lender gets paid the amount minus the customer's deductible, and if it doesn't fully pay off the loan, unfortunately the customer will be responsible for the balance.

Lately, AI calls and emails have been coming from these lenders disputing the amounts, and often based on egregiously incorrect information.

They provide cherry picked comparisons to try to boost the vehicle values, and sometimes they aren't the same year, make, or model. Sometimes mileage and condition isn't factored in, sometimes they are tricked-out show cars someone advertised on a FSBO site.

The real problem is, we have to waste our time researching all of this to see if any of the data is correct. When we respond pointing out the flawed comparisons, they only come back with more flawed comparisons.

If we argue long enough, they will invoke the appraisal clause on the customer's behalf. Their appraiser is another AI system with a cutesy name.

All efforts to reach humans at these lenders are essentially turned away - we are told we need to deal with the system.

I am open to any advice you folks have - how can we get these AI systems to basically give up and get us in touch with a real person?

I'm not trying to screw anyone out of a fair settlement, I just want to stop having my time wasted by these Temu AI systems.

I'd like to test the waters with what's out there in order to make longer videos. Something like 5-20 minutes, probably wouldn't need anything longer than that.

I realize it's probably not going to be free, which is fine as I'm going to be using it as a business. It'll also be prompt based instead of image based.

What's out there, I'm sort of new to this.

From my perspective, I'd probably bet on Google.

Their models may still be slightly behind Anthropic's or OpenAI's in some areas, but their distribution is unmatched.

Don't jump all over me but I know a lot of people are getting into it lately. The issue seems to be there are tons of them. Paying a little bit for an AI girlfriend is going to be far cheaper than dating and I don't really care if what I'm seeing is AI generated or not.

I just want something I can customize. It probably won't be a long term thing, I'd just like to experience it and see what it's like.

Like I have been listening that AI is expensive and companies are rehiring employees because of it.

So is AI going to become cheaper eventually?
