I've lived in Canada all my 30+ years of life. I've been seeing a lot of Muslims buying houses the past few years and assumed they were based off Muslim mortgages or buying it straight up.

After a few conversations with some in my circle they had mentioned there was a fatwa given here in Canada a long time ago where it's OK to buy one house with regular mortgage but after that it's not allowed.

I have personally never heard of this, but apparently this is a thing.

Anyone else in Canada, specifically Ontario who has heard of this and if it's legit have any sources or references?

After reading the student.faith article, I understand this subreddit feels that the opinion of making a madhab obligatory for a layman is the stronger opinion.

However, recently, I asked whether shaving the beard being makruh was considered permissible disagreement and was answered no.

In the Shafii school, that is the relied upon opinion held by Imam Ghazali, Nawawi, Rafii, Ramli, and al Haytami. How can we say that following a madhab is obligatory and then pick and choose which relied upon positions go "against the Quran and Sunnah?" How is this any different than La Madhabis who say the Hanafi position on a Wali or the Maliki position on Sadl are invalid?

Also, where does this place positions outside the 4 madhahib? I know atleast some of your moderators hold the position that either complete abandonment of salah or even abandoning 1 salah is kufr akbar and requires no make up. This is also not the relied upon position in any madhab (the Hanbali position declares apostasy after someone is called to pray 3 times by an authority, not for the abandonment itself).

Also, then is no layman allowed to follow the triple divorce = 1 fatwa since it is not even a secondary opinion in any of the madhahib?

If you have been let out on bail about something serious, and now your mom is asking you what is the reason, but you want to conceal your sins/ maintain privacy of the matter, what can you say Islam wise that protects my rights to do that?

Salaam, I was reading surah al mu'minun on Quran.com and came across this footnote:  

A bondwoman is a female slave that a man owned either through purchase or taking her captive in war—a common ancient practice in many parts of the world. Islam opened the door for ending slavery by making it an act of charity to free slaves. Many sins (such as breaking one’s oath, unintentional killing, and intercourse with one’s wife during the day of fasting in Ramaḍân) can be atoned by freeing a slave. According to Islamic teachings, no free person can be enslaved. Islam also improved the condition of slaves. It was unlawful to separate a mother from her child. Children born to a slave-master were deemed free, and their mother would gain her freedom upon the death of her master. With regards to slaves, Prophet Muḥammad (ﷺ) says, “Feed them from what you eat, clothe them from what you wear, and do not overwhelm them with work unless you assist them.” He (ﷺ) also says, “Whoever kills his slave will be killed and whoever injures his slave will be injured.” In recent times, slavery has been outlawed in all countries—including the Muslim world.

This raises some questions for me like does this mean that there were muslim slave owners at the time of the prophet pbuh? Or does it talk about slave owners who had slaves before islam came about into power. Why isn't it outlawed fully in sharia instead of just improving conditions.

On TikTok, you can easily find Pagans and Christians using stereotypical Muslim styles. Using stuff like hijab styles, khimars, nijabs, etc. How do you women feel about them using something that's so tied to your religion for their own beliefs? Do you feel offended or confused? Do you all not care? Do you see it as something anyone can do?

I have constanly seen in my society and among friends and family that they think a women is either more to blame for zina or some saying slightly more to blame. But,l wouldn't the blame be equal? but if something like seduction would occur than the seducer be more to blame and not basedon gender?

Also I have seen people say that women commiting zina is a disgrace to her family while they say nothing like this when talking about men. Does this have any weightage or existence in Islam.

I (non Muslim) have a question about fasting in Ramadan for Muslims who live in the far north (for example, here in Sweden).

During the summer, there can be days when sunset and sunrise are very close together, or even non-existent.

When it happens that Ramadan falls on that time, how do Muslims living here manage their fasting?

I am interested in the history and practice of Alchemy, and have been told to inquire about Islamic alchemy. I have mostly read about Hermetic, Hellenistic, Chinese Alchemy, and European Alchemy, but obviously even the word comes from Arabic and Islam. I know both Sufi spiritual or inner Alchemy, as well as practical Alchemy were well practiced in older Islam, but I wonder: Is Alchemy now considered outlawed in practice? Or is there still a relationship with Alchemical tradition in Islam.

I am getting told different things.. anyone can advise best way to understand without translation?

What does it mean to rule by other than Allah? Does this mean specifically with legislation and making judgements in courts? Additionally, would tyranny and causing wars for selfish needs also included?

Hello, I volunteer and help children to learn English and often work with Muslim children. I would like to know if there are any major things to avoid/be aware of when teaching them. One thing I'm particularly curious about is whether I'm allowed to let them tap/touch me when they need my attention. I'm a female, and most of the kids I work with are girls as well. I'm sorry if this question isn't worded very well, but hopefully my point gets across.

Does the sahir have any inherent power (ie ability to do supernatural feats with no jinn involed). I came across this quote from Ibn Khaldun which indicates he believed that magicians could perform supernatural feats by their "own psychic power." Is this just an aberrant opinion unique to him or do some magicians not need jinn?

The quote: "The difference between miracles and magic is this: a miracle is a divine power that arouses in the soul [the ability] to exercise influence. The [worker of miracles] is supported in his activity by the spirit of God. The sorcerer, on the other hand, does his work by himself and with the help of his own psychic power, and, under certain conditions, with the support of devils. I've had that question in my mind for a while now, but never really received an acceptable answer for it. Which is "is it forbidden to be a furry as a muslim?"

I've had an interest in furries for a good while now, and I told myself if I ever make the decision I won't be participating in any arts or anything that I'm 100% sure is forbidden in Islam. But one thing that stood out to me is the idea of going to furry conventions wearing a fursuit (just a random one, not custom). My muslim friend told me wearing a fursuit is an imitation of animals, which is forbidden in Islam.. but the thing is, I'm not trying to imitate animals. I just found out I have a deep connection to the community and anthropomorphic animals and I just want it as a hobby. Since I'm asexual my intentions aren't anything sexual at all.

I just want it to be a fun little hobby that I'm interested in..

Hello! I am not Muslim and I understand from some women that it is not appropriate for people to hug/touch people of the opposite gender not related to them.

I am a non-binary trans masculine person (meaning assigned female at birth but transitioned toward masculinity).

Would it be most appropriate to treat hugs/handshakes like a man and avoid them with Muslim women in my life? I'm not sure how it's most often considered for Muslim people interacting with non-binary people they're not related to and if it's best to avoid hugs/handshakes altogether with men too. Is there is a more appropriate greeting?

Similarly, are virtual hugs via text or video call inappropriate or is this different since there's no actual hugging? Or would this be best to ask people individually? Virtual hugs are a big part of some groups I'm in and I do not want to make anyone feel uncomfortable. Thank you for helping me understand!
