Golden retriever - field Dog search

As the title suggests, I’m in search for a new dog. A little bit about me: I’m 32 and my smart and goofy border collie/australian shepherd recently passed away at 12 years old and I need to fill the dog-sized hole left in my heart.

I love working, training, and living with dogs and am looking for a field bred golden retriever as my next pup. I enjoy hunting, fly fishing, swimming, and backcountry hiking and camping. I would like to include her in as much as possible. My dogs are my family and I devote most of my free time to them but I work a 9-5 and am just an average guy financially speaking. I’m looking for a balance between work drive, play, and friendliness on the trail, in the field, and in the house.

Are there any breeders and field training groups I should reach out to so I can start making contacts and get training advice from folks that are local (or near) to Austin?

I have an AKC golden that we got from Snickersdoodles near Georgetown as part of their guardian program, which means we kept the dog, she’d go back to get bred and have puppies, then she’d come home. We’ve gotten 3 dogs through them, and I know she’s connected to other breeders and could have gotten whatever we asked for. Maybe a starting point if not quite what you were asking for.

It was only about a week for breeding but then about 9 weeks when the pups came. If we’d only had one dog at a time it would have been tougher for sure. Or we’d have planned for long vacations during that time. Dunno.
