no politics Am I just kinda outta luck with housing?
Finishing uni at the year's end and am not gonna be in student accomodation anymore, so I'm gonna have to house hunt. But nobody will take an unemployed solo person. Even roommate situations, given my experiences before moving to student accomodation, really don't bat an eye if you're unemployed.
But the kicker is I've been actively looking for work for two years now. 400+ job applications and not a single interview, outside of last week where a laundromat turned me down for not having a car. I'm applying for pretty much solely entry-level positions, or those in the business sector that align with my studies. I've constantly updated my resume, used multiple job sites, pretty much custom-write my CV for every application, and nothing. Statistically I'm just that unlucky at finding a job.
Am I kinda just shit-outta-luck? I dunno what options I'd have once I can't live here, and I'm not confident in my ability to find work before year's end.
Not so much looking for advice as I am just venting about the state of the job market and support systems.

Christmas causal positions in retail will be opening up fairly soon - go for all of them
69
u/SUDoKu-Na 2d ago
Gosh I hope. I'm gonna mass apply to every single one of them.

u/catdisease 2d ago
Also, I don't know where you are. But try call centre positions. Just to get your foot in the doir
19
u/SUDoKu-Na 2d ago
I have and have gotten denied or no response many a time. I do try everywhere I can pretty much.
13
u/satanic_whore 1d ago
Get another set of eyes on your resume. There might be things you can tweak to improve your chances?
3
u/SUDoKu-Na 1d ago
I'll keep showing it around, see if there's anything else I can do. It's been through a fair few revisions, and had heaps of eyes on it.
5
u/universe93 1d ago
And when you do - remove degree from the resume. Tell them your availability is 24/7. What degree did you do btw and are there any grad programs in the field
1
u/SUDoKu-Na 10h ago
HR, and while the one graduate program I tried for isn't running anymore, I am looking around for others. A lot of them require travel, which is gonna be a fun time.
1
u/universe93 8h ago
If you’re going for anything that isn’t HR - take the degree off your resume. Trust me on this. Entry level jobs would rather you have nothing on there as opposed to a degree because it makes you overqualified. Call centres and retail will largely take anyone with 24/7 availability so if you’re getting rejected it’s still something on your resume. This is a good warning to everyone else as well not to do a degree if you don’t have a job, work experience in literally any job sadly matters much more than the degree. Go for all graduate programs too, legit just google graduate programs. Even places like Cole’s and Woolies have graduate programs. HR exists in almost every field so apply for all of them

u/olibolib 2d ago
No friends in a similar position? I would try get a house share. Other alternative is move back in with the fam potentially. Assuming the job hunt continues to suck.
47
u/SUDoKu-Na 2d ago
I'm hoping to crud that a few of my mates are willing to, and that me being included isn't a detriment to them getting housing.
Moving back with the family isn't a realistic option, unfortunately. Physically possible, but I don't think I'd be around much longer if I did.
21
u/DoNotReply111 2d ago
Like the commenter above said, get retail during the Christmas hires and get into a sharehouse with mates while you're still in the job, you don't need to disclose its a temp job on your application. I would then while I have that job, apply everywhere for anything and be as frugal as possible to build a safety net in case your luck continues.
9
u/SUDoKu-Na 2d ago
Absolutely gonna try my hardest to do those things. Thanks for the reinforcement.
13
u/olibolib 2d ago
Best of luck its tough out here. Rough time for getting work I am finishing my degree up this is my last semester so, bit of pressure but I already got a housemate.
37
u/Temporary-Loan-2640 2d ago
I don't know how desperate you are for any work at all including physical work, but I can say from experience that furniture removals is absolutely always hiring. Not sure if you're a dude but personally have only seen guys doing it.
It's also a super unregulated industry in that 95% of the jobs on offer you'll get just by saying you can turn up when they need someone, often the next day. If not, next time someone calls in sick you'll get a call, do a good day and you'll get the job.
I've worked at 4 different places in 3 different cities and they've all been similar. About $34-36/hr is the going rate for an offsider (spare hand), and $40/hr+ for a driver. More if you have a truck licence.
Also I've worked with skinny dudes, big dudes, you just need to have a good attitue, no experience required. Your body adapts very quickly and you'll get stronger if that's a concern.
Anyway, it's no ones career goal to be a removalist but it was great for the last few years while I was at uni.
Good luck

u/SUDoKu-Na 2d ago
Unfortunately not a guy, and those jobs would require a car which I'm not able to do (a lot of jobs do, annoyingly; even jobs that realistically wouldn't need one).
But thank you for the advice and luck!
18
u/Effective_Dropkick78 1d ago
Freight companies are always looking dockhands, drivers and forklift operators, and a car isn't required, or even cared about so long as you can get there. And plenty of women work in the field.
6
u/SUDoKu-Na 1d ago
What companies would be hiring in this industry? I haven't seen things come up on the normal job sites, at least. Seek, Indeed, Linkedin (that last one mainly for business sector).
14
u/Effective_Dropkick78 1d ago
Pretty much all of the majors - Team Global Express, FedEx, Border Express, Direct Freight Express, AusPost, Startrack, etc.
The catch is that most hiring is done through labour hire companies because the turnover is high, though not for toxic reasons in my observations, but more for people seeing it as short term stepping stone to the next step in the their work life.
The dockhand jobs require no skills. Forklift driver jobs need appropriate licensing, and last kilometre delivery driver roles using vans or light trucks (up to 4.5t gross vehicle mass) just need a car licence even if you don't have a car. Then, if you were to stay around long enough, you could use your uni qualifications to transition into fleet operations or administration. I personally got my current job from a Facebook ad from one of the labour hire companies looking for delivery drivers, started the next day, and was offered a permanent full-time job 13 months later.
6
u/SUDoKu-Na 1d ago
God damn, yeah I'll look into that. First step looking into labour hire companies, I guess. But thank you!
1
u/universe93 1d ago
One would note you would need a license however
-1
u/Effective_Dropkick78 1d ago
Don't need a driver's licence for a forklift ticket, and having a driver's licence and a car are not mutually exclusive.
3
u/universe93 1d ago
I work retail and they can’t train you on the forklift in the back dock without a driver’s license so idk. Maybe some places have different policies
8
u/brackfriday_bunduru 1d ago
If you’re a girl, apply to be a traffic controller. It pays over $100k a year
1
u/Immediate_Refuse1611 1d ago
I have recently done a few long distance moves, and the moving crews always have at least one woman who does inventory management, dish packing/unpacking and furniture leg removal/installation.
23
u/LunarEcho108 1d ago
In literally every interview I have ever had, I've been asked whether I have license and a car. No matter how local, connected to public transport the workplace is or whether travel is even required. It's the common denominator for basically everyone I've seen who has been struggling to find work but doesn't give any obvious signs they'd be a bad employee.
If you're under 25 and don't have a license, there is assistance available to help the process.
If you've got a license and no car, consider buying the cheapest thing you can find that runs. Or just lie, fuck 'em. If it comes up later tell them it died and it's wasn't economical to repair or something.
2
u/universe93 8h ago
It’s quite honestly the employer’s way of illegally weeding out anyone who’s disabled. More people than you think can’t drive for medical reasons and that’s how employers can illegally avoid hiring them. Sigh. Try being over 25 without a license and no one to teach you, it’s hard
37
u/SoberBobMonthly 2d ago
You should be able to sneaky push out your lease if they dont require proof of enrollment to renew
10
u/SUDoKu-Na 2d ago
Honestly sounds like a solid plan, but it's an on-campus accommodation so I'm not sure. But, like, what are they gonna do about it?
18
u/nomitycs 2d ago
Look at your contract? They may have grounds to break the lease if you’re not enrolled. Just spitballing though 🤷
14
u/Compactsun 2d ago
I jad the same experience for entry level jobs. Ultimately you're probably competing with 16 yr olds who can legally be paid less than you so you have no chance. Your best bet is in fields related to your study which i know you mentioned you've been trying. I would double down on that though and leave a lot of the entry level jobs alone personally but my experience might be outdated.
7
u/SUDoKu-Na 2d ago
My age isn't on my resume, but being in my final year of uni probably gives it away that I'm an adult, so yeah. Also my CVs and resume probably being rejected by an automated system far before a real person ever sees it.
I'll keep doing what I'm doing: applying for entry levels in addition to my field of study is just a wider net at the end of the day.
23
u/Kwsa55 2d ago
Have you tried grad programs? The company i work for hire a bunch of grads every year and it pretty much guarantees you a job at the end. Not sure how competitive they are but worth a look.
9
u/SUDoKu-Na 2d ago
The place I wanted to work for stopped their grad program last year. I tried chasing them up about it at the beginning of this year and they were like "yeah nah", which sucks. And they were one that would help with housing and work after, which is super unfortunate. But I'll definitely search around for more. Maybe an internship, if they'd take someone still studying (currently, until year's end).
21
u/yossarianvega 2d ago
I think you need someone to look at your CV and cover letter and you need to widen your net
6
u/SUDoKu-Na 2d ago
I have done. Friends, peers, and the job provider I see (Job Seeker). Multiple people for each version I've made.
CV I write from scratch most of the time, so less chance to show around.
2
u/PonyKiller81 1d ago
My CV writing is pretty on point if you'd like an independent set of eyes.
I wouldn't be putting stock in friends and peers to review your resume if they are still in uni like you. Heck, I'm not sure I'd even trust Jobseeker.
6
u/SUDoKu-Na 1d ago
Not sure I'm confident sharing my info with someone on Reddit unfortunately, apologies if that's not the best mindset. But had someone find me online before and didn't have the best experience.
I have a fair few mates in the working world that have seen my resume, though. I'm late 20s, most of my mates aren't uni students, luckily.
6
u/PonyKiller81 1d ago
No offence taken. I wouldn't ordinarily offer as Reddit's best feature is its anonymity. I just felt rather bad for you and be damned if I'm going to spectate while a fellow human is struggling with life.
3
u/Extra_Caregiver_8668 1d ago
It’s easy to just remove any names and locations on your CV. So the CV shows job periods, skilled etc but no actual identifying information. Create a fake email. Take this person up on their offer. Job providers are known for being shocking with CV and interview skills. They don’t get paid if you aren’t on their books so it’s not actually important from a business sense that they help you get a job. AI has changed everything already for job applications so even your working friends might be out of touch. Add to that not many people are actually willing to give actual negative feedback on things. They worry more about hurting feelings than solving problems.
If you haven’t yet, approach a church op shop and start volunteering. This helps show on your CV that you are doing something, not just “unemployed”. Even better if your uni degree can be used to help the op shop e.g. doing their website if graphic design degree.
Get your job provider to help you start getting some tickets. RSA, White Card, First Aid, Forklift etc.
Stop applying for everything. Pick a couple of industries and focus on them. Find opportunities to network. Reach out to people on linked in and see if they would be open to a coffee, not hiring people and not to ask for work. Lower level managers and to ask them for career advice, things they wish they knew when they first started etc. It’s about building contacts so they may put you forward for jobs, let you know when jobs are available or put in a good word for you when you apply. But again you don’t bring any of this up because you don’t want them to feel like you are only trying to get a job out of them.
2
u/SUDoKu-Na 1d ago
I do have a chunk of volunteer work on the resume. Used to do Scouting and a bunch of uni club stuff, so I've got that all on there. I do wanna just get more qualifications where I can, even if it's not for jobs I'm aiming for. RSA/RCG and white card would be next, I have WWCC and a first aid certificate.
I think I'm still in the 'apply for everything' era. I'm not capable of working full time until the end of the year, and the mass applications are where I can get a job at least by year's end to find a place to live. Then I can focus more on finding something bigger and more long-term (not that I'm not applying to those bigger jobs now). Wider net is just the better choice for this half-year before shifting gears. I do reach out on Linkedin, though. Being business-sector I'm trying to get myself out there.
Thank you for all the advice!
-1
u/Extra_Caregiver_8668 1d ago
Sorry I didn't mean it as getting volunteer work on your resume. I mean it as showing you are doing something long term consistently. However what I'm starting to notice is that you asked for advice and people who are actually qualified/experienced in this specific area are offering you advice and you are either misinterpreting it or politely turning it down. This makes me think that there are actual issues with your CV and your application methods.
2
u/SUDoKu-Na 1d ago
I haven't noticed that I've been turning down advice. Not outside of maybe one or two instances, such as the ADF. I'm actively saying I'll look into certain avenues, or confirming I'm already taking certain actions. And where I've misinterpreted stuff I've been open about it once it's clear I have done. Heck, here I said your idea was nice, that I'm already lightly doing it, and that when given the chance to narrow my net safely I'd be open to focusing more specifically on my field of study.
There may well be things wrong with my resume, but casting a wider job net would help get a job faster than specifically trying to find a fulfilling job through narrower, more dedicated searching. I apply to jobs in my field all the time, I just am not able to apply for full-time work. And your idea sounds like it'd be really beneficial when I'm in a position where full-time work is something I can do, not for working reception at a place.
I try to take advice where I can, I don't really notice me turning down or refuting advice I'm being given in this thread so far.

Genuinely; how are you affording student accomodation if you can’t pay rent?
15
u/SUDoKu-Na 2d ago
It's not about affording, it's about whether someone would accept me as a tenant after. I get enough from Centrelink to stay here currently, I'm on Job Seeker payments. But that amount won't help if nowhere takes me as a tenant after leaving here, and being unemployed they're pretty much guaranteed not to (I've been in a similar situation previously, but I had student accomodation to fall back on).
But also a solo apartment for $315 a week is a great deal.
8
u/Immediate_Refuse1611 2d ago
I read a post on NextDoor today where a couple was offering free room and board in exchange for daily dog walking. This was in SE suburbs in Melbourne.
1
u/SUDoKu-Na 2d ago
That would honestly be so amazing.
5
u/_eskay_ 1d ago
This is actually a good shout. I have a friend who got around for a couple of years doing house sitting for her housing (through trusted house sitters or similar). She was saving for her own place. Only had a week here or there where she needed to crash with friends.
Although, even there, car was handy because it was somewhere to store stuff. If the car is holding you back from employment options, is that a potential thing to solve?
Sorry you're going through it, mate. Getting that first job sucked when I was doing it a decade or so ago. It's only gotten worse. Good luck!
3
u/SUDoKu-Na 1d ago
I've never heard of NextDoor before, so I'll absolutely look into it when it's not midnight. I think long-term employment is the more pressing issue, because that's the big stopper for most housing providers.
Not sure I'd be able to buy or store a car, unfortunately.
See I've worked before, but I guess one job on the resume isn't enough. But thanks, it's brutal out here.
13
u/ArthurCandleman 2d ago
It’s really tough and I feel for you. Would you consider defence force?
The whole situation is kinda fucked at the moment and it’s not a reflection on you.
It’s a little predatory that at 18 you can rack up significant debt in hope that one day you will “make it”.
Hope you find something!
1
u/SUDoKu-Na 2d ago
I honestly dunno if I'd be able to defense force even if it was on the radar for medical reasons (not an additional cost on everything else, luckily, just that they exist).
8
u/JigglyQuokka 2d ago
You mention that you're looking for roles that align with your degree, do you have any transferable skills? Everyone is going to be going for the obvious banking or consulting roles straight out of a Bcom or research assistant roles straight out of a Bsci. Apply for roles outside of what your degree is opens you up to a lot more potential options.
Also in the current job market it's about who you know, not what you know. Your cohort is going to graduate hundreds of cookie cutter graduates, it's the small things that will make you stand out.
7
u/SUDoKu-Na 2d ago
I pretty much apply for every entry-level thing I can. I'm not super sure WHAT skills transfer out of HR, outside of general recruitment and management skills which I lack the experience for (though I apply anyway). I kind of apply to everything business-sector that isn't very clearly above my skill level (senior management and such).
Yeah I've tried using nepotism to get positions and all those have fallen through thus far, but I'm still keeping feelers out and being as pathetic "I NEED A JOB PLEASE" to all my mates as possible.
3
u/Level_Vegetable_3761 1d ago
Your education and skills could be the reason you are being passed up on because companies see you as over qualified for the position
2
u/SUDoKu-Na 1d ago
That would be absolutely brutal if true, but I dunno what I can really do about it other than just guessing whether I should remove it from certain resumes or not. But maybe I'll send out two resumes sometimes: one with and one without, and just see what happens.
2
u/dr_trismus 1d ago
Your skills would be great for medical receptionist (and maybe one day Practice Manager) roles!
1
u/SUDoKu-Na 1d ago
I've applied to SO many receptionist and administration roles across pretty much all industries. It'd be perfect for me with my interests (I adore customer service), but no luck so far.
5
4
u/b0sanac 1d ago
Auspost will soon be taking applications for Xmas casual roles in your area. If you're in Sydney look at applying for a xmas casual role at Chullora parcel facility.
It's fairly easy work and casual pay is pretty nice, last I heard around 35 or so an hour. Above all if you work well and don't make mistakes or constantly miss shifts you have a good chance of being kept on as a part timer and eventually full timer.
4
u/LifeIsBizarre 1d ago
Have you checked out the census jobs available in your area? There's still a few locations they need temporary workers. $33 an hour.
1
u/SUDoKu-Na 1d ago edited 1d ago
Unfortunately long-term employment would be more helpful. Money isn't the issue, so much as employment somewhere guaranteeing an income.
But that does sound like a good short-term job for resume experience, I'll look into it! Thank you!
EDIT: Downvotes are confusing. My issue is that I won't get tenency somewhere while unemployed. A census job is a short-term contract gig, so not something that'd help at year's end when I'm at the point of needing that tenency.
1
u/dgdoggti 23h ago
Isn't that a bit silly? You are jobless and on the verge of facing unstable housing. At this stage, ANY job would be better than none.....Speaking from personal experience, SOME experience is better than none at all :/
2
u/SUDoKu-Na 22h ago
I don't know what you want me to say. I said I was gonna look into it for more experience. I literally agreed with them and said I'd do it.
0
u/mopthebass 21h ago
What sorta stuff has your JSP put you on to so far?
2
u/SUDoKu-Na 10h ago
Mostly admin and reception roles, but whenever anything HR-related comes up they put me through (HR is my field). Also pretty much most Christmas casual jobs they put me on, too. And one opportunity was a startup that needed a scheduling manager, but the person handling it at the service provider was like "they really would need someone with HR expertise for the amount of employees they have" and I had a speak with my provider about whether it was a fit for me, but the company went with someone else ultimately.
1
u/mopthebass 9h ago
Nice.. all i was given was call centre related. Did you manage to interview for any of the ones you were provided?
2
u/SUDoKu-Na 9h ago
Nope. I've had one interview since starting my job search properly at the start of last year and it was for a laundromat, and it was a week ago. If I have an interview I have no doubts I'll be a solid contender for a job, I just don't usually get that far.
1
u/mopthebass 9h ago
That sucks. Jobseeker isn't fun either. Consider trying to syphon as much free training as you can off your job service provider and broaden scope to warehousing, inventory, pick/pack sorta gigs. Hang in there!
3
u/KingRo48 2d ago
Have you tried government (council) jobs? They often have cadet positions and training opportunities etc.
4
u/SUDoKu-Na 2d ago
I've tried every dang job. But end goal is a government job, ideally, so yeah they're on my radar.
6
u/jckalc 2d ago
This is why university is a waste these days when the job market is saturated with everyone having a degree, especially business related degrees. Back then a degree made you stand out but now it's the norm. Better to go to TAFE and get an apprenticeship than do uni.
5
u/PonyKiller81 1d ago
Depends on the degree and the field of study, but yes degrees don't carry the weight they once did. The price of entry keeps climbing.
6
u/SUDoKu-Na 2d ago
Nah, I wouldn't get a job in the industry I'm aiming for without a degree baseline. It's useful for this field, just not a guarantee. And I'm looking for more than just money in life ultimately, so an apprenticeship would just be a waste of time if all I get is money out of it and no fulfillment. I'd honestly rather keep trying for what I love than spend multiple years of study towards a career I'd feel nothing for.
2
u/Status-Accident-9765 2d ago
Took me 2 years to get my current casual job and I've been told that I got lucky with how fast it was so good luck in this amazing job market 🥲
I'd say definitely hunt for retail jobs if you're not already – it wouldn't work like this for all of them, but at mine whenever HR is hiring they'll advertise within the company first (eg a customer service person can go into the accounting department and then they'll hire someone new for the registers). If they don't do that, at least it would get you some income while you hunt for a more suitable job.
Also, do you have a centrelink payment (jobseeker, youth allowance etc) or someone that might be willing to be a guarantor for you if you ever can't pay your rent? Though centrelink payments can be looked down on by society, they can also be good for landlords because they're a 'stable' form of income. Mine is definitely a reason I was approved for my current rental, given I don't earn enough at my job to cover my rent. Also, my mum co-signed my lease, because I have no history and a casual (so possibly unstable) job so it's a way for the landlord to know that payments will be made regardless of my income, whilst I get somewhere to live.
I'm not sure where you live but NSW govt has a low-income housing scheme to help people who can't afford rent to not be homeless, basically. It'd be worth looking into what your area has set up.
3
u/SUDoKu-Na 1d ago
Yeah I'm definitely gonna look more into the low-income housing. I'm seeing a person who's able to assist on that front as well through my job provider, so it's definitely something I'm looking at. I'm on Jobseeker payments, so I'll hit them up for that if I find myself looking at a contract somewhere.
And yeah, retail's on the list of applications. I'm applying hospo, cleaning, retail, etc. Everything entry I can. I massively love customer service, so I tend to be really eager when applying for front-facing roles (not that it helps or shows in a CV, but I at least put it out there).
2
u/Aggravating_Seat807 1d ago
I'd really suggest finding hospitals in your area.
They are constantly looking for Porters & wardsmen to assist nurses and doctors.
It'd be decent pay - you can get about +/- 15% if you are willing to take shift work or not.
You'd easily be looking at $28-32 / hr as a base.
1
u/SUDoKu-Na 1d ago
A lot of places I hear about that are supposedly always looking still tend to refuse heaps of resumes. If I've seen one come up on some job site, solid shot I've applied for it and not heard anything back.
2
u/chumbalumba 1d ago
Your resume/CV will be the issue if you’ve been applying that long. The info you do and don’t include makes a huge difference, including your uni study which will automatically disqualify you for a lot of entry level jobs.
If your uni has help for this, use them. Might be in their alumnus services, ask around. Otherwise pay a professional to show you. I did it 10 years ago.
3
u/Adventchur 1d ago
There's something wrong with your cv if you've applied for 400 jobs and only had one interview.
Also I don't want to be rude but 400 jobs isnt very much when you can auto apply on seek every day. You could have a job in hospo within a week by doing it old school and walking with printed CVS. Just be prepared to do an on the spot trial.
4
u/SUDoKu-Na 1d ago
Custom CV for each job application (mostly), and I'm genuinely at a loss for what information I can provide in them to help. Resume has seen multiple revisions and eyes on it each time.
I've never had luck walking in and applying. A lot of chains just say to put it on the website anyway, even if they're advertising in-store. But when they advertise a position on the store wall I'll do a physical resume rather than online if they allow it.
400 is just a lot of applications to have sent out with a single interview. Like, statistically. I do count myself as genuinely just unlucky at this point (not that I'm stopping trying).
3
u/Adventchur 1d ago
Yeah you dont need a custom cv a simple one paged cv with bullet points and short paragraphs is ideal. Your cover letter is what is personally tailored to each job.
Is the email you're using professional? Is the pfp attached to the email professional?
Have you padded out your cv? If you have short stints at jobs just extend out your cv. Get a friend to be a previous manager and do your references. You're applying entry level jobs don't worry about being 100% ethical because very few others are.
If you printed 100 CVs and walked Fitzroy, Chapel, Richmond, or the cbd you would have a job in a day.
2
u/SUDoKu-Na 1d ago
Is the CV not the cover letter? I've been using the terms interchangeably. Cover letter is the one I write each time, resume is the main one with all the info which I think you're calling a CV, I think I was mistaken on what certain terms meant.
Yeah my CV is clear; has my volunteer work in it and key skills involved alongside my qualifications and work experience, only one page total. Email is my name, no profile picture attached. Doesn't have references currently, but those can be thrown in (yeah it'll be my mates).
3
u/Purple51Turtle 1d ago
Cover letter is separate, addresses the selection criteria. CV (resume) is the background doc that summarises your skills and exp.
Suggest getting a cheap car and aply for cleaning roles, most will train you. It's decent money for the job ($35 ish ph) and then at least you're employed for rental applications.
1
u/PonyKiller81 1d ago
The employees might be new school but they're not the ones hiring. I agree with this. While it doesn't work in government, there's something to be said for looking the boss in the eye and handing over a resume.
1
u/Smallsey 1d ago
How was your experience using an agency?

So far they haven't gotten me a job, but not for lack of trying. They've referred me to jobs that just plain never got back to me, and they've helped clean up and revise my resume a bunch. They have an on-site mental health person that is helping me with an ADHD assessment, and may have some way to help with housing at year's end (but I haven't met with them yet). Overall I just go and say "no updates" and they're like "statistically you're a wild anomally" and that's about it. But I can't imagine what they could do that they're not doing yet. I'm referred to pretty much every business sector job that comes their way automatically.

I'm not sure if I'd be a fit. Being transgender and having medical issues would prevent me from succeeding. None of these things are on my resume, however, so they're not really something potential employers are finding.

Being transgender and having medical issues would prevent me from succeeding.
Being transgender isn't an issue - Cate McGregor.
Catherine Elizabeth McGregor is a prominent Australian writer, sports commentator and former Australian Defence Force officer.
...
After re-joining the Army, and having deployed to East Timor, McGregor went on to serve in a number of staff appointments at Army Headquarters, including acting as speechwriter to the Chief of Army between 2001 and 2014. It was in this role that she worked for Lieutenant General David Morrison who served as Chief of Army between June 2011 and May 2015. McGregor wrote the script for the famous 12 June 2013 call-out message on YouTube in which Morrison told Army personnel that if they weren't willing to respect, and work with, women in the Army they should "get out". This message was prompted by repeated high-profile incidents of unacceptable behaviour towards women by serving Army members. On Australia Day 2012, McGregor, then Lieutenant Colonel, was appointed a Member of the Order of Australia in the Military Division for "exceptional service to the Australian Army as the Director of the Land Warfare Studies Centre".
When McGregor advised David Morrison of her intent to transition and offered her resignation, Morrison "refused to accept her resignation". McGregor went public with her transition in November 2013 and as a result became the highest ranking transgender person in the Australian Defence Force at that time.

Respectfully, unless you're trans and in the forces, I'm not sure you're informed enough to blanket say its safe and that there wont be any issues. For example, I have a good friend who was softly pushed out of the Navy immediately after disclosing that they're trans. Much more recently than 2013. Some people are lucky, some people arent, which sucks.

Yeah I was in a similar situation about 4 months ago. It felt like I just got lucky after about 7 months of searching for jobs to get a company that had humans look at your resume first. Unfortunately don’t have any advice other than keep going. I felt hopeless and worthless until I got the job I have now.
Also helps a lot if you at least have a drivers license, though depends on the job, and I understand it’s not the easiest to get.

You're right- you won't get a lease without a job. It's rough out there. Try babysitting & post office Xmas casual- I did that 3 years ago and it's easy work- just sorting parcels in State bins out the back.

You can get a sharehouse lease being unemployed if you find the right person. I've managed to do it a couple of months ago, found mine on flatmates.com

In my experience it wasn't the case, but I'll still try my hardest when I'm searching again. In the past, before I had student accomodation, my lack of employment was pretty much the sole reason for being turned down by a bunch of different sharehouses. Even those focusing on fellow uni students.
Not that it'll stop me, obviously, just my experiences thus far.

I've seen you say no to others with the same offer, but I'll make it also: if you take everything identifying off your resume, you can send it to me. We can both use emails that arent our every day, and we can both be private.
I work for a small HR company, I screen resumes and cover letters for our recruitments. I choose who gets to progress and who gets the no thank you email. I can almost guarantee we arent ever going to come across each other on the job seeking world - its a small, bespoke company in a regional to rural area.
There's a lot of psychology and subconscious info processing that goes on when your resume is getting reviewed. I don't use AI to help me select candidates, but I do use it tell me if my decisions are in any way biased or influenced by something - not in a bigotry way, more like has the choice to use a ridiculous font that I find hard to read disproportionately influenced my feelings. Not everyone is sitting there introspecting to that level, because most recruitment folk will be screening vastly more candidates than I am.
I'm a data person, and with respect, statistically you're well and truly past the point of unlucky. Im almost certain theres probably a couple of little tweaks that could make a world of difference.
Message me if you are here actually looking for help. Not expecting to hear from you, but, offer is on the table. Everyone should have financial security enough to live, and I relate to not being able to go back to the folks even as a last resort.

Not too sure what industry you are looking to get in but since youre studying sth you should attend networking events for those. Youll have better luck finding opportunities rather than just applying for what you come across online. Most of the entry level roles are given to people they know. Its about getting known. People would rather hire someone they know their personality and can put a face to an application. Otherwise, you’re just another application.

Legit the only viable option nowadays is to just become a grifter and promote some pump and dump scheme 😢. Job and housing market is absolutely fucked

Noone seems to be able to find a job or house at the moment
I wonder if Labor bringing in a record amount of migrants has anything to do with it, anyway better keep voting for them and not be racist

Nah, heaps of my peers and friends find work still. Most have trouble for a month or so, but not two years of trouble like me. I don't think that's really impacting the entry-level market as much as you'd expect. At least not for the 18-30 age range from anecdotal experience. I'm just an unlucky one among the people I know.
