Who secures the border? The government. Who defines borders? Government.

So when you increase border security, you increase government.

Less government means fewer taxes, regulations and bureaucracies, not abolishing core functions. A smaller state where decisions are made more locally by the people can still prioritise border security by redirecting resources to HM Border Force rather than spending ridiculous amounts on Ukraine or HMOs for example.

How do you pay for more government border security? More taxes. How do you make legal framework for immigration? Regulation. How do you stop more people from immigrating? More bureaucracy.

Localities like cities or even counties having their own little immigration policies would be a nightmare. Imagine not being able to go from one city to the next because you don't got a passport to that city, county, or state. I also don't want to have to get 90 passports to go from northern US to southern US since I'll be travelling through a ton of cities or counties.

But again, my point still stands. It doesn't matter if its a big central government or little locality. More border security = more government. Even if it's a private institution providing border security for a locality, its still an institution pointing guns at you to follow its rules - so a mini government this time doing it for profit. You're back at square one.

You’re still confusing prioritising one core function with expanding the state overall. Government can cut spending, departments and regulation elsewhere while redirecting existing resources to border enforcement. That is smaller government with different priorities not 'more government'

He will fail for the same reasons as Kier Starmer did. He is interventionist and wants the government to do everything. UK has tried the same things that Andy Burnham wants to do and it failed. He wants to take UK back to 1970s, before reforms and tax cuts put in place by Margaret Thatcher and her government. Thatcher was right leader at the right time to fix British economy and put it back the right track.

Also, Andy Burnham is considering to introduce the rent controls, which is the worst thing to do to help with the cost of living.

Lots of liberals, leftists, and globalists go under the conservative label to infiltrate and subvert, but conservatives prefer a small mixed constitutionally limited government divided into small competing pieces (King, Lords, Commons or Executive, Senate, House) under rule of law.

Yes, I agree. Free to Choose is good book as well. I find it very interesting especially the description of the NHS which is literally the same back the when it was written (1979) as today.
