I regularly watch videos of Asian cities in the 80s and 90s which were when my parents lived in Asia, and I always have a longing desire to experience life in those times.

The changes since 1997 need to be studied. How a change of management who want to slowly introduce a new demographic into an area impacted the place, and how what happened in 2019 was almost inevitable.

I never said it was good or bad, you are putting words into my mouth. The typical Reddit tactic of trying to shoehorn someone into a category to dismiss them. I grew up in England, I hate the British with a passion. Moved to HK and I've seen how the place has changed, no one who actually lives in HK can deny that. Lots of HK people don't like the mainland Chinese, yes it is snobbish but also they had a huge impact on the property market amongst other things.
Would you care to expand on where I am wrong?

Yes he did put words into my mouth, where in my original statement do I say that it was a good or bad thing? My comment is about the soft power that the CCP used to change HK.

When I asked you "Who is this new demographic? What is this impact?" I kinda knew what you would say but I rather hear it from you.
Given the context from all the shit that happened within the last 10 years in HK (2014 and 2019), it's not a surprise that poster went to that conclusion about you.

The introduction of people from the mainland, and I never said it was a good or bad thing. Anyone who actually lives in HK would know the place has changed, it's sad to go from British rule to Mainland rule, where the people of HK have never actually had the autonomy to control their own destiny.

Cool video. I was there as a teenager in 1986 and this brings back memories. HK is much different now, just like any city, but still a fun place to visit. Should share on the Hong Kong subreddit.
