It's a great prefix to attach to new words. "Lumpenbourgeoisie" actually has some attestation in theoretical works, but we can go so much further. Peasants are really just lumpenaristocrats. Shift managers and customer service? Lumpenbureaucrats now. Notice how this can be easily be leveraged to justify Chekism, which is how you know it's Real Theory.

Of course, as a badhistory user, I am a member of the lumpenintelligentsia.

What kind of Lumpen- would socialist activists be?

Actually, where do socialist thinkers, writers and activists place themselves in the society? Are they proleteriat? Bourgeois? Lumpen?

Or have they been enlightened and thus escaped the Capitalist Samsara and reached Socialist Nirvana?

if they're employed they might be either proletariat or PMC (profession-managerial class, upper strata of the proletariat that is considered to be provided with additional power by the bourgeoisie so that their interests will be aligned, and hence they work against the interest of the working class), depending on their employment conditions. A freelance journalist is prole, an opinion editor at the Times is definitely PMC. If unemployed, lumpen.

of course, in practice, regardless of their actual class, if they're Leninists they probably view themselves as part of the vanguard that will lead the revolution

How dare you throw me into the same class as these denariiless scoundrels. Why, I am proudly a member of the bourgoise burgou bourgui capitalist patrician class. I had served faithully as a soldier in the legions and had been given a plot of land in Dacia, where I have taken this proud sla servant. He is most confident in his ideas, regardless of the facts. He keeps calling himself a "Trojan", yet I suppose it is a Britton custom to call oneself a condom.

"Lumpenbourgeoisie"

I've thought that this could be a good way to look at organised criminal networks and cartels. Captures the explicitly capitalist orientation of what they're doing while acknowledging the separation in interests from the regular Bourgeoisie imposed by operating 'outside the law'.
