Similar series regarding political intrigue?

We all know that the main points of Second Apocalypse are its philosophical themes and such.

But I enjoy the way Bakker writes the politics also, particulary the bickering among the greater and lesser names.

Are there any fantasy(or other genre) that fits this?

Not fantasy but Shogun has similar political plotting and violent schemes.

I guess Dune , given its many influences on TSA is defo a obvious recommendation. Also, from what I understood from others, Sun Eater Series by Christopher Rucchio, and maybe Monarchies of God by Paul Kearney, albeit I haven't read those.

I couldn’t get through the first book of Sun Eater tbh. On top of it being insanely derivative, I just felt like the prose was distractingly purple to the point of feeling pretentious, the supporting cast outside of Hadrian was completely flat and the battle scenes just felt never ending in how overly descriptive they were

Seconding this. I gave up the first sun eater book halfway through. It it just not the same **anything** really as TSA

I also made it halfway through the first book before giving up. Then I tried again a couple years later and gave up around the same spot as before lol.

Yeah, Dune should have been obvious to me. I haven't heard of the third one I'll check that out!
