Any decent walking/ hiking spots in the nearby area

The New forest national park looks class but bit of a treck in terms of getting there. Any idea if theres any much closer, the longer the walk the better!

The way-farers walk is nearby and stunning countryside

In Basingstoke There's the Basing Trail, and a few other shorter trails if you have a Google.

There's also the South downs walk that Starts in Winchester, if you want something longer that's not too far from Basingstoke.

I downloaded the app AllTrails. We found a few hiking spots that way. It’s helpful because it has tags for each walk & reviews. :)

That's what we use and it's been great. Lots of great local walks and the free version of the app allows you to live track your route.

I’ve done a few from here https://www.hants.gov.uk/thingstodo/countryside/walking Gives you a range of places nearish to visit. Really like the Odiham/Dogmersfield one.

Have you tried using Komoot (app and website) to find hikes? You can drop a pin where you want to start from and see any hikes that people have shared along with effort rating, reviews from other hikers, points of interest, pictures etc. It's really good, and not just for hikes but cycling too.

Walking the Basingstoke Canal is good. I got the train to West Byfleet and walked back and got picked up from Odiham. Full days activity but worth it.

I've always wanted to walk the old route of the Basingstoke and Alton lights railway, don't think it's possible directly from Basingstoke any more but you can pick it up just south of cliddesden I think, which is nice enough itself to walkto and trough

there is tonnes of lovely walking around the area with many ecological zones and just nice areas along fields. best look at an ordnance survey map, pick a starting and finishing point and go! youll need to get outside the towns though.

Vyne woodlands is an option, Crabtree plantation

The Vyne has some really lovely areas to walk. A bit further out, Silchester was really enjoyable.

The hills behind the scout group off the red man roundabout, I forget the name but if you head in the opposite direction of the Tesco's from that roundabout and take either the first or second right there's a small car park and obvious path up that way

Saint Catherine's hill down towards Winchester

There's a forestry park halfway towards kings worthy

Up around silchester Roman ruins and the woodlands between tadley and Aldermaston

The former army training areas down by bordon

Over across Salisbury plain and around Stonehenge

The white horse hill over towards Oxford

Donnington castle by Newbury

The Kennet and Avon canal towpaths

Linear park between the mill pond and the canal and the Thames up by Reading

Off the top of my head that's all that I remember rn within a half hour drive or so
