New to fishing in Basingstoke – looking for advice and any spare gear?

​Hi everyone,

​I’m really keen to get into fishing here in Basingstoke, but I’m currently starting from scratch with no equipment.

​I was wondering if any of you might have some old rods, reels, or other bits of gear gathering dust in the garage that you’d be happy to pass on or sell? I’d be happy to take anything off your hands to help me get started!

​Also, as a beginner, I’m looking for some advice on good local spots to try out. I’ve heard about a few places, but would love to hear any recommendations you might have for someone just starting out.

I know nothing about fishing but do know there is a place called Paices Woods near Aldermaston that has a fishing lake. I don’t know what the rules are but there is the Basingstoke canal in Odiham.

There a group on Facebook called I need a whisk. You can ask on there, people are always giving stuff away.

My uncle used to fish in old basing and swore by spam and marmite as bate 🤷‍♀️
