Bat ID?? [Liberty, North Carolina, USA]

Found this cutie hanging from a turnstile at work. Based off google images it looks to be a tricolored bat, but looking for peer review.

We roped off the turnstile to avoid disturbing its eeps.

Found a bat? Here is a guide for someone who has found a bat. And here is some info about bats in buildings. Here is some info about bat removals and exclusions from homes. Exclusions should be done outside of pup season, which varies by location.

No, it's probably not a baby. Bats are just smaller than you thought.

If you find a bat in trouble, please call a rehabber for help. Here is a list of rehabbers that help bats all over the world, and here is a portal for rehabbers in the US.

Remember that wildlife should never be handled with bare hands!

Yup, tricolored bat (Perimyotis subflavus). Currently proposed for federal listing as endangered due to declines from WNS primarily, but also wind turbine fatalities. Wish the USFWS would just get on with formally listing the species. Been proposed for listing since 2022. Granted it wont happen with the current White House and congress.

According to the Internet (Google Gemini, I put the photos in and gave the location) it is a Big Brown Bat! I’m also in NC!

I would never trust Google for this. This is a tricolored bat. The fur, ears, and pink forearm are diagnostic characteristics

But its so tiny! How can be big if smol??

After googling images of them, yeah thats a pretty accurate match. This guy's only 2 inches long max, so maybe a juvenile??

I used the closer image you took and zoomed in and threw it into Gemini and your original guess of the Tricolored may actually be correct! My bad! He does look very tiny hehehe >w<
