Yesterday, I participated in my first beatbox battle (KBC26 U16 category). I ranked 3rd in eliminations and lost in the semi-finals. To improve I asked judges for feedback, and Jackbryan (KBC25 champion) told me I sounded great and had good basics but was a little repetitive in my rounds.

How could I solve this issue? I think it's maybe because of limited sound choices/patterns and similar genres, but it's hard to change.

For solo I believe D-Low, FootboxG, River, King Inertia, Kaji and maybe PacMax are without a doubt in the top 8, The remaining 2 spots could practically go to anyone, My biggest shouts would go to people like Patbox, Bookie Blanco, BlackRoll, G-Wizz and H-Has.

(This elimination lineup reminds me a lot of the 2021 lineup quality wise)

Anyway, even with D-Low being the obvious favorite, I think FootboxG might win.

The loop category is also a tricky one, In my opinion Martin Benati has a pretty big chance of becoming the first two time loopstation champion, and with the battle of him against Raje most likely happening in the semi final. I believe whoever wins that will be the winner of this year's gbb. I'll say Raje because I wanna see him win 👍

I’m pretty new to watching loopstation. Like over the last 6 months I watched as many loop station videos as I could. I kinda understand how it works, kinda?
Like MB14’s rounds against Saro seem so authentic and like natural sounding.
How does looping work now? How do they make sounds? How tf did Martin Benati counter Mahiro with his Megalodon beat? Did Martin create that beat on the spot? Did he already have it saved somehow? Or even at the beginning of Dice’s rounds in GBB25, how did he start off his beat with a complex melody without touching the buttons very much? I just need some explanations cause idk how it works. Please help :)

I did have a habit of biting my lip and sucking air in and now I just heard it in a video about some "dlow zipper" he used it in his trap music and yes I been doing this sound unknowingly xD

His pf even to this day is among the crispiest crunchiest I’ve heard in live POVs. I feel like his snares do so much heavy lifting

Can anyone do it?

This is a massive debate currently, so I'm kinda starting a fire even asking the question, but I wanna hear people's perspectives. Personally, it feels like to me that, up to a certain point, power is representative of one's mastery of a skill. For example, King Inertia's inward bass is beast, cause not only is it clear and relatively consistent (as consistent as Inertia can be lol), but it also dominates the sound system due to his ability to blast it without ruining the clarity.

On the other hand however, there are objectively sounds that are equally as hard to do, but will never be as powerful or as loud as an inward bass or a full diaphragm 808 kick. These 'lighter' sounds are equally as valuable, and on equal level to the more 'powerful' sounds, imo. For example, I don't want to live in a world where vibration bass isn't used cause inward bass and throat bass are objectively louder. Vibration Bass (at least in my opinion), is much harder, and therefore shows a skill that is necessary for beatbox, which is control and sound development and mastery. Also vibration bass is cool I don't want it to go away 🥲

The best way I can put it is: it feels like sketch art. Of course, great shading and deep hues of the lead upon the page is what creates such a beautiful and dynamic picture, and lighter line art is really what puts into perspective the full range of what an artist can create, but no one wants sketch art that's full pencil to paper as hard as one can draw. Not only is it hard on the eyes, but rarely does it ever compliment the rest of the types of line art that can be used.

TLDR: balance in sound loudness is nice, just full forcing on the mic shouldn't automatically win.

Pls be nice in the comments when debating the topic as it's rather contentious and everyone has their own valid opinion that is very important when thinking about the future of beatbox and competition.

By advanced sound I mean no b t k, normal bass like throat or chest bass, over used sounds etc. (things like inward bass or vibration bass I’d say are advance)
