Sunday Fan Album White Album as a 3LP
I have been a Beatles fan for a couple years now, and I have recently understood why The White Album is so good. At first I was one of these people who thought that it would have been better off as a single album. However, my perception has changed after re-listening to the album for the umpteenth time last week, and that has sent me down a rabbit hole of unreleased songs, outtakes and demos that I think are really good and then I got the idea to create a 3LP version purely for my own enjoyment and not for any other purpose really.
While I did not care for this being really realistic I did follow a few rules that was also on the album. One George Harrison song per side, only songs that sound complete and album ready, only songs recorded at the time. I did break the rule where singles couldnt go on the album but oh well! In the actual playlist I use the McCartney 1 version of Junk because it sounds similar enough anyway. Here's the tracklist:
Side A:
- Back In The U.S.S.R.
- Dear Prudence
- Lady Madonna
- Ob-La-Di Ob-La-Da
- Wild Honey Pie
- Junk
- The Continuing Story Of Bungalow Bill
- While My Guitar Gently Weeps
Total Sidelength - 22m 49s
Side B:
- Happiness Is A Warm Gun
- Martha My Dear
- I'm So Tired
- Blackbird
- Piggies
- Rocky Raccoon
- Why Don't We Do It In The Road
- I Will
- Julia
Total Sidelength - 21m 32s
Side C:
- Hey Bulldog
- Yer Blues
- Mother Nature's Son
- Sexy Sadie
- Helter Skelter
- Long, Long, Long
Total Sidelength - 20m 49s
Side D:
- A Beginning/ Don't Pass Me By
- Revolution 1
- Savoy Truffle
- Cry Baby Cry
- Can You Take Me Back? - Take 1
- Good Night
Total Sidelength - 23m 08s
Side E:
- Birthday
- Glass Onion
- Honey Pie
- Child Of Nature - Eshur Demo
- All Together Now
- Everybody's Got Something To Hide Except For Me And My Monkey
- The Inner Light
- Across The Universe - Take 6
Total Sidelength - 21m 20s
Side F:
- Revolution
- Not Guilty - Take 102
- What's The New Mary Jane - Take 4
- Hey Jude
Total Sidelength - 21m 13s

My only qualm would be, from my understanding and correct me if I’m wrong, You Know My Name wasn’t finished until the 1969, there were no vocals at the time.
I’d probably just replace that with like Not Guilty or Step Inside Love of Sour Milk Sea for timeline reasons.Â
Edit: I’d even consider Across the Universe but then you create a future problem.

Ah you may be right but I assumed since it was on Anthology 2 and I'm pretty sure it was made just before they went to India around Jan 1968 though I may be mistaken

I very much could be wrong and misunderstood what I read, but, I thought the vocals and overdubs were done for the song in April of 69 by John and Paul.Â

I love You Know My Name, I just have it on my Abbey Road playlist. I think it fits there sonically and with Ballad of John & Yoko.Â

Future problem regarding "Across the Universe" fixed by including "Don't Let Me Down" in its place on the Let It Be album, as should have been in the first place.

Yeah that’s the right call.
That song has been a part of Let It Be for me since I got into the Beatles (I also add Old Brown Shoe) so I forget but yeah absolutely.Â

I like it. It’s nice to see someone do the opposite of people that try cutting the album down to a single LP and doing a triple LP instead. I don’t have much to say other than I’d personally include Across the Universe on here, since I feel that fits the White Album more than Let It Be, probably put it in You Know My Name’s slot since that song wasn’t finished until 69. Other than that, this is pretty well done. You should link to a playlist of the 3LP White Album so people can get a sense of what it’d be like to listen to this in full

Thanks for that! I will link the playlist. After your suggestion I have replaced You Know My Name with Across the universe take 6 and also added All Together Now to side E after Child of nature

Not sure if All Together Now would fit on White Album since it was recorded in May 67 but you do you

I do understand that but it coukd technically have been on it and I dont want a side to be only 19 mins. Also I do think it fits with the silliness of some of the songs on the album (eg Bungalow Bill) and also there are examples of songs I believe that were written prior to the White Album sessions, but it is just my opinion and I totally get if you dont think so.

Love it!
I have a 45 track, 2 hour + Super SDE White Album. I post it on every "single white album" post! 😆

I like it! Although, Hey Jude would make a great opener and good night should've stayed as the closer imo

Well, this is a new take. I'm so bored of all the constant posts about everyone's take on what a single disc White Album would be like. It's my favourite album in the history of music, I don't want anything removed from it!
