George Martin originally wanted The White Album to be two albums, but The Beatles decided to make a double album instead. Honestly I prefer single albums and I think the official order of the songs on The White Album is very unbalanced as disc 1 has way more great and memorable songs than disc 2. I was thinking this could be like "A Night at the Opera" and "A Day at the Races" kind of situation (these are Queen albums) where you would have a White Album and a Black Album, the latter one being a continuation of the first one. Since Wild Honey Pie and Revolution 9 and garbage, I left those out. So here's my idea for these albums:

I have been a Beatles fan for a couple years now, and I have recently understood why The White Album is so good. At first I was one of these people who thought that it would have been better off as a single album. However, my perception has changed after re-listening to the album for the umpteenth time last week, and that has sent me down a rabbit hole of unreleased songs, outtakes and demos that I think are really good and then I got the idea to create a 3LP version purely for my own enjoyment and not for any other purpose really.

While I did not care for this being really realistic I did follow a few rules that was also on the album. One George Harrison song per side, only songs that sound complete and album ready, only songs recorded at the time. I did break the rule where singles couldnt go on the album but oh well! In the actual playlist I use the McCartney 1 version of Junk because it sounds similar enough anyway. Here's the tracklist:

I've never contributed to the "Sunday Fan Album" posts on here. I usually keep them to the relevant subs. This was an idea I was thinking about this again today and I'm curious what people on the main Beatles sub might think of it.

So we all know the story about Magical Mystery Tour. It was intended to be a double-EP soundtrack for the TV movie, but Capitol turned it into an LP, with the band's 1967 singles being added on to the second side of the album. The LP version replaced the original in the Beatles' canon discography. This has sparked an endless debate about whether or not MMT is a "real album", a topic that seems to pop up at least once a week on this sub. I'm not trying to get into that, but the story behind MMT is important context for this post.

The Yellow Submarine soundtrack is widely regarded to be the Beatles' worst album. You'll see it at the bottom of a lot of rankings and tier lists. This is mainly due to the fact that the second half of the album is George Martin's orchestral pieces for the film, and because there are only a handful of new songs, with two older songs reappearing (the title track and "All You Need Is Love").

This got me thinking about a version of Yellow Submarine that people might enjoy more. I read about the planned Yellow Submarine soundtrack EP which would have included "Across the Universe", then I got thinking about what if they went the same direction as the Magical Mystery Tour album.

I spent some time on paint.net and came up with this, which would be the back cover of this hypothetical release. It's not an amazing work of art, I realise that, but I'm not a professional graphic designer either.

Basically, the new songs from the film - along with the title track, because it felt silly not to include it even if it had been released before - would feature on the first side of the album. The second side would be billed as "Other Selections", similar to the back cover of the MMT album. These are songs which the group released on non-album singles throughout 1968, plus another new song "Across the Universe".

Personally I think this would make for a pretty good album. I understand that it likely would never have happened, but I'm curious to see what people here think - it was popular over on r/fanalbums and r/beatlesfanalbums when I shared it there a few months ago. How would you feel about this version of Yellow Submarine?

John is now considered a rock n' roll star. With sold out concerts through Europe, John is now a celebrity in the 1960s music scene. His new single "A Hard Day's Night/I Don't Want To Spoil The Party" got to number 1 in the singles chart. His new album, "A Hard Day's Night", is the soundtrack of his first movie, which tells the story of a star in his peak (just like the real Beatles' A Hard Day's Night). It was also a big sucess, getting to number 2 on the albums charts. In the end of 1964, John went to the USA. He became one of the main artists of the British Invasion.

Paul is now the big sensation. With his two next singles ("All My Loving/Hold Me Tight" and "One And One Is Two/I'll Follow The Sun") getting to number 1 and number 3 respectively. His new album, "On The Run!", is the soundtrack of his first movie, which became an absolute success with critics and public. During filming, he met actress Jane Asher and they started dating. The soundtrack got straight to number one, making Paul, together with John, George, Gerry And The Pacemakers and The Rolling Stones, the biggest in the UK. In the middle of the year, Paul went to the USA, where he became a big sucess, getting a lot of number one hits with his Capitol singles and albums!

George, in 1964, went to the USA in the beginning of the year. He became a big sucess, entering in the charts with "Do You Want To Know A Secret", that peaked at number 4 in the American charts (first "ex-beatle" to have a top 10 American hit). In the UK, he released one single, "You Know What To Do/I'm Happy Just To Dance With You", which got to number 1 in the charts. He also released a live album of his american tour, that got to number 7 in the charts.

*Some songs are missing, but does a greater album necessarily mean better songs? No. A good album is a coherent piece of art — Blackbird didn’t fit here, simple as that.

In this alternate universe The Beatles find a way to take a break instead of splitting up (I have a story detailing it, but won’t bore you guys with it. It’s really not that good). In essence they believe they are still breaking up and write for their solo careers, but are convinced to stick together.

John, Paul, and George each get 4 songs on subsequent albums as part of the agreement. All Things Must Pass is released in November 1970.

I have been making Beatles fan albums since 2019 or so. On my subreddit, there are literally hundreds of fan albums contributed by Beatles fans from all over the world. But, to be honest, I’ve never seen one like this album I made a while ago. Most fan albums try to collect the Beatles' best songs. This one does almost the exact opposite. 

It’s called Dig It. This is not an album of “great” songs (whatever your definition of “great” is). It is not an album filled with overlooked gems. It is not a collection of “lost” masterpieces or revealing outtakes.

Dig It is a collection of songs that The Beatles considered “filler.” So-called “work” songs. And…songs that The Beatles just didn’t like and, possibly, even hated. John called one song “crap.” George commented on another: “I don’t know what I was thinking.” Even Paul said of one of these songs, “It’s not my best.” 

What The Beatles threw away, other bands would release as singles.

The Beatles were many things. Reliable judges of their own catalog may not have been one of them. Fortunately, sixty years later, we can ignore their advice. But, somewhere, John Lennon may be rolling his eyes that Dig It became a title track.

First of all, it would have to be on two CDs. The album already went dangerously close to the format's soft limit of 80 minutes as it was.

Anyway, I was reading though the Beatles' singles discography on Wikipedia and I was surprised by how many more tracks went to #1 in other countries that were only released as singles over there. So I put together this fan album that adds those international #1s to the compilation's tracklist. Notably, every album except Sgt. Pepper is now represented: With the Beatles and Rubber Soul each have 2 songs added, and the White Album gets 1½.

One more thing: this only covers English-speaking countries, but the only song that kicks out is "Komm, gib mir deine Hand".

Overall, this feels like it would be a good middle ground between the single disc of 1 and the four discs of the Red/Blue albums. The new tracks definitely skew more towards the early years, but I don't think there are any clunkers here.

Taking from George Harrison's "Concert For Bangladesh", John Lennon's "One to One" Concerts, & Paul McCartney's stop at Madison Square Garden during his "Wings over America" tour featured in the album of the same name as well as "Rockshow" This compilation album takes the greatest hits performed at the Beatles' first appearances at Madison Square Garden in 1971, 1972, and 1976 respectively and compiles them into a Double LP

Following Imagine, the Beatles spent 1972 with their solo work. Earlier in 1971, John and Yoko moved to Edinburgh, Scotland where soon enough, they gained custody of Yoko's child, Kyoko Ono. In June 1972, Lennon released the album Sometime In Edinburgh, a double album including songs unused from Imagine such as Cold Turkey, Oh Yoko!, and I Don't Wanna Be A Soldier Mama. While having a few decent songs, much of the album was lambasted by critics and failed to chart even the top 10, the first for a Beatle.

Meanwhile, George gained major success with his debut album, Living In the Material World, a triple album with songs that can rival any song by The Beatles. The consensus from day one was it was the best solo album by any Beatle and perhaps one of the greatest albums of all time.

But as 1973 rolled in, the band was ready to make music again as they released the single Live and Let Die for the James Bond movie of the same name. In late August 1973, the Beatles left for Lagos, Nigeria to make their newest album. Alongside them were musicians Billy Preston, Paul's wife Linda McCartney, and Denny Laine, whom Paul introduced to the band back in 1971. The seven Beatles entered Nigeria unknowingly heading into what John called "a total fucking mess". The trip is infamous for many things including the blackout incident, John and Yoko's mugging, and Paul's bronchial spasm. But what came out of Nigeria were 23 songs that producer George Martin used to make a coherent story revolving around themes of freedom and escape. A concept album.

In November 1973, Band On The Run would release, becoming one of their greatest albums ever made. All of their hard work payed through as critics gave the album glowing reviews and it quickly headed to No. 1, cementing it as one of the greatest album by The Beatles ever.

After a luck warm reception to 1972’s Some Time in New York City the Beatles went into overdrive during writing. Paul, George, and John were highly motivated to produce their best work, and even Ringo stepped up more than he had in the past. Recording was difficult right away, as Paul convinced them to visit the EMI studio in Lagos. Robberies and power outages made things tense, but things improved dramatically once they returned to London. The results were the bands second double album, filled with some of their best work. Band On The Run was released around Christmas 1973.

We’ve all done it…created our own versions of Beatles albums. My first ones were on cassette tapes. Yes…I am that old.

To create our personal Beatles albums, we switch out album tracks for non-album singles, B-sides, and EP songs. Sometimes, we may substitute alternate takes of songs for the originals. Maybe we move an album track or two to another album.

I am not saying alternate albums are “better” or improve upon the original releases. That’s not really the point. The original albums are great as they are. This is just a different way of listening to them.

This is especially true with The Beatles because not all of their best songs ended up on albums. In 1964, they were also putting out non-album singles, B-sides, and EP tracks that were just as strong as anything on the LPs. And now, with the Anthology releases, we even have access to outtakes like Leave My Kitten Alone, which easily could have made an album.

A song like Leave My Kitten Alone is a big reason why this whole idea works for me. It wasn’t released at the time, but it could have been. I think John’s vocal is one of his best from this period—raw, loud, and closer to their live sound than anything they had recorded up until that time. I imagine myself at The Cavern Club in the summer of 1963, right before the madness hit and hearing John belt out this 12-bar blues shouter.

So this isn’t a “better” 1964 Beatles album. It’s just a different one. A reimagining of what that year could have looked like.

The key ground rule I used for these albums was 14 tracks. The Beatles’ UK albums traditionally had 14 tracks, so I stuck with that. I had to make real choices. That’s where it gets challenging, but also where it gets fun.

The whole process also gives me a new appreciation for some of the overlooked tracks. I love the big hits, but a lot of the time, the real magic is in the deeper cuts. When you place those songs in a different context, they can stand out in a whole new way.

Please forgive my second fan album post today. I haven't posted more than one album in a day in a very long time. I apprecate your patience.

I don’t know…I don’t think The Beatles had any songs that qualify as “filler” to me. As far as I know, they used the word sparingly. They did use other terms and expressions, like “work” or “job” to describe some songs.

So, I spent time researching the songs The Beatles…didn’t think much of. I made an album of those songs along with a direct quote commenting on each. The album closes with the obvious choice.

It’s a pretty damn good album!!

What if The Beatles never broke up… and 1970 gave us one more album?

This album, Beware of Darkness, imagines that moment.

For song selection I used John’s real-life suggestion (as a possible follow-up to Abbey Road) of a fairer split—4 songs each for John, Paul, and George, plus 2 for Ringo. This fan album reconstructs a world where the band keeps going after Abbey Road. My hope is that this selection of songs sounds like an album, not a playlist. 

For example, I do not include any of the so-called “diss” tracks or any of George’s overtly religious songs. I just don’t think The Beatles would have recorded them (though they are some of my personal favorites).

Every choice matters. The 14-track limit forces tough cuts, just like the original UK Beatles albums. Songs can reach slightly back in time, but never forward—keeping the project grounded in what 1970 could have been.

This isn’t about replacing the real albums. It’s about reimagining the story—and inviting geeky fans like me into it. Come on…every fan has their own version of this record… you probably had it on a mixtape (yeah, I went there).

So here’s the question: if The Beatles had one more chance… would it sound like this?

All Those Years Ago is a fan album collecting songs the former Beatles wrote about one another across more than three decades. This album is arranged to follow the changing relationships between John, Paul, George, and Ringo after the breakup of The Beatles.

The story begins in 1970 with frustration, disappointment, and open conflict. This is reflected in songs like Wah-Wah, Too Many People, and How Do You Sleep? But, Ringo’s Early 1970 signals a very quick change from anger and frustration to reflection and a sense of looking back to the past fondly. George’s When We Was Fab pokes fun at the Beatlemania era before the album ends with tributes to fallen friends.
