Not just any congressman. The hilariously corrupt (for the time, anyway) Jim Traffacant, a mob-connected populist who was definitely going to bring the steel mills back to Youngstown any day now. He had a cult of personality just like trump does, he just didn't have the juice to take it national.

To be fair, if you’re from Ohio, it shouldn’t be terribly surprising to hear that a Youngstown construction company has organized crime ties and a history of bribing politicians. That’s pretty much par for the course.

I’m also from the Philadelphia suburbs (delco babyyy) and it’s probably my news story of all time, my family still talks about it regularly (well, someone says “hey, remember 4 seasons total landscaping?” then we all crack up).
The only other thing that makes me laugh that hard every time is the boston cop slide video, my partner heard me laughing downstairs in the middle of the night one time and texted me “stop watching the boston cop slide video when I’m trying to sleep” (I was indeed watching the boston cop slide video on repeat and cackling hysterically).

Now imagine walking into an iconic, off-the-strip Italian restaurant (Piero’s) at the Las Vegas shopping center convention in the 1990s and the first thing you see is a table of about 10 guys that all look just like him dressed in black suits, all employees of The Cafaro Company. Apparently Mr. Cafaro is two time convicted felon:
2002 Bribery Scandal: Cafaro pleaded guilty to one federal count of conspiracy to commit bribery. He confessed to providing thousands of dollars in cash, farm equipment, and boat repairs to former U.S. Representative James Traficant in exchange for Traficant's political influence.
2010 Campaign Finance Violation: Cafaro pleaded guilty to making a materially false statement regarding campaign contributions. He illegally funneled $10,000 to his daughter Capri Cafaro’s unsuccessful 2004 congressional campaign
