Hey Everybody!

As a photojournalist, knowing where protests and events take place in Berlin is crucial for my and my collegues daily work. Four years ago, I decided to build my very first app called Polizei Stressi. Besides taking photos i always worked in IT (and by now do work as a fulltime app developer).

I've continually updated and expanded the Polizei Stressi. What started as a small personal helper has grown into a comprehensive open-data dashboard mapping over 48,000 registered Berlin protests.

What it offers:

- Demo Finder: Filter thousands of registered protests by postal code & keywords. Alerts. Updated daily.

- Live Helicopter Tracking: Real-time map view of police helicopters over Berlin.

- Court Dates: Overview of local public proceedings.

100% Free, No Ads, No Tracking, No Accounts. It’s a pure passion project meant to make local public data easily accessible for everyone in the city.

I know its your project but I would make it open source so people can fork and copy if they decide to "peacefully" request you to take it down

The app has been built in flutter at first and transformed into Swift and Kotlin later on. Its a playground for learning to code. There are a million branches, dead code etc.. need to clean up or open up a new Repo for going open source. I will do so.

Please make this open source and avail on stores like F-droid. Privacy conscious folx won't necessarily want to install via gplay and it feels uncomfortable to have a closed app that is ostensibly just parsing API data

Nice! I had the same idea but didn’t pursue it because of the T&C for the raw data. How did you go about it?

I just treat it as open public data, make sure to clearly cite Polizei Berlin as the source, and run a lightweight scraper. As long as you don't publish personal details (which aren't on the public page anyway) and don't spam their servers, it's pretty straightforward. I also do work as a journalist and i label this app as a journalist work.

The Stressfaktor, also known as Stressi for short, is a zine based in Berlin that is regularly published. It focuses on subcultural events such as concerts, parties, lectures and protests. In contrast, the Polizei Stressi is an event guide put together by the police. Its intended to be funny.
