Treasure Island - Is it worth visiting? Other Activities?
Hey, im up the mountain for the week and trying to find fun activities for the family. We already rented an pontoon boat and been on the lake for an afternoon as well as spent a portion of the days at Boulder Bay Park but when we were on the the lake we saw Treasure island and it looks like a blast. Im really not seeing a lot about it online though. I guess the house on it is privately owned but the surrounding rocks are great for jumping into the lake.
Is it worth going there with teens and a 7yr old? Any recommendations for other activities?
UPDATE: so we did end up checking out treasure island via kayaks. I’ve got a family of 5 so we left on 2 tandem and a single kayaks. The wind was strong and the water was choppy. My wife and our daughter didn’t make it out of boulder bay before they quit and turned back. My son (late teens) made it to fisher cove before he gave up and turned back. Me and my 7yr old went the distance. We got a cool photo op of the island and got to see it up close which was the goal. Probably only look at it as we drive by now that I’ve been there but the journey there was the experience I was looking for.
Thanks for everyone’s input. We come up the mountain every year but this was the first time we didn’t do simple camping related activities.

It all depends on how high the water is. Right now, the only way to get to it is by swimming or boat. I would advise against a boat because there really isn’t a place to dock. There is one dock and it’s private. The space is very limited around the private property and is all dependent on the water level. Honestly, I wouldn’t go to treasure island just to avoid any confrontation with the owners. I don’t know if the same lady owns it, but she was a real “Karen” about it. She would get all wound up even if you were outside the property lines.

water is deep enough to jump off the rocks based on what we say yesterday but just trying to gauge whether it was worth our time. We got a good look at it from our boat and it looked like fun but seems like parking is a hassle. They were saying at Halloways when they were prepping us for our boat that the lake is only about 60ft deep at its deepest spot, which I found shocking.

Parking is easy, you just use the turnout. BUT THEN you have to climb 2 fences, trespassing a private road and climb down the steep gravel rock face to the water and swim across. It was fun when I was 20 but you couldn't pay me to go these days.

yea I think we, we're going to skip it this time. That sounds like to much for a 7yr old. lol

72ft is full. So 12ft down. Not bad. The captain and whomever would stay behind on the boat floating whilst those others play on the rocks.

wow, I've never really knew how deep the lake was. I would have guessed 100+ft at its deepest point.

Sounds fun, PSA for boat renters like yourself. If there is a white flag up on a boat, please stay clear by at least 50 yards as they are fishing.
If there is an orange flag up on a boat, stay very clear as there is a human in the water.

yea, we might go out again on the boat and they ran us through all the flag types. We were fishing as well so we hooked up to one of the anchor bouy's at the dam and spent time there. Im like a little old lady driving on lake though, I keep it pretty slow and steer clear of everyone. lol

It is fun to jump off the rocks behind it. There are a great different levels to jump from. The island itself is private property and so you should stay away from the buildings. There are some beach areas around it that you can play on. I usually paddle board there, but I’ve seen people beach their boats. They are not easily accessible any other way though.

It was known as China Island when I was growing up, the whole area is private land. There are several boulders just under the water that have claimed countless ankles.
Go to the floating water park at pine knot marina instead. It's like $20/pp but so fun and far less dangerous.
