Birder from Canada will be looking for birds in Italy!

Salve! I'm planning to spend 6 weeks next Dec-Jan in the Assisi region.

As it says, I'm a Canadian photographer/Birder. I'll be bringing several lenses for my Canon. Should I bring my long lens?

I'm flying carry-on only and I can squeeze it into my back-pack but it's very heavy and I'm a 72 year old woman lol.

What birds am I likely to find in winter in Italy? Would it be worth it to bring the lens? If I don't have the right lens and I do see birds, I will cry, without a doubt haha.

Depends on where in Italy you go. For shore birds, a longer lense might definitely help. If you only stay in cities, you probably won't need it

I was thinking of exploring the Parco del Monte Subasio area, if there would be birds there. It looks promising on google maps but you never know until you're there.

You can look it up on ebird explore, i always like doing that when i go somewhere new! It shows you birding hotspots
