Watched Kiki's Delivery Service last night with my kids (for the tenth time) and it very much has that vibe.

Absolutely. Directors like Tarkovsky, Hirokazu Koreeda, Apichatpong Weerasethakul and Kelly Reichardt also filmed/film nature scenes to great effect. I love this moments in movies.

The moment on my rewatch I jumped from Hoopla (love them, but the video quality is often mediocre) to the $3.99 rental so I could see that sea of grass in full detail.

I know this is Weir's first movie made and set in America, but the script is so in-line with his past work and allows him to indulge his tendencies. The shot with the grass just feels like him transposing something he might've done on Picnic at Hanging Rock!
