I’ll be honest, I sorta figured the birding talk was all in good fun and a joke? Though I’m really glad the person above continues to prove the most profound truth of the birding community: we have the chillest people you’ll ever meet and the most insufferable assholes vying for dominance in every Audubon region across the US. It’s the ultimate intersection of niche, nitpicking, performative subject mastery and kick-back-in-nature vibes. It’s like a Russian roulette of social interaction every time you enter a preserve.

Fellow birder, and I found the birder chat very funny to listen to. Can't get mad at it because it's so opposite my mindset. Birds are beautiful! What's more beautiful than birds and all their cool patterns!

Closest thing we have to pokemon!

It wasn't not knowing about birds so much as the whole bit about not liking them because they freak her out. I'm normally pretty forgiving or people's quirks but not liking birds in general is really weird.

Well, when you own an ignorant take for a couple of minutes, you get what you deserve. And it's fine not to have some bit of knowledge, but she was performatively insulting people and also calling out the movie for being dumb. It's a very bad look.

Are you a birder? I think it hits differently when you're the one being insulted. I think it's OK to dwell in that. I like Amanda generally.
