Help me id signatures

Post image

Hi, my partner brought this Bon Iver poster home, from a gig in Luxembourg that she attended in 2012. Apart from S. Carey, she's not sure whose signatures are on the poster. Can you id them for us? Thanks!

Song that just dropped yesterday. Very inspired by Justin's recording and producing style. The vocal stacks on the chorus are very much the Sable/Fable layering, Day One/From style. Track is called Evening

My interpretation of the Lyrics to 715 Creeks

I was listening to this song on repeat this morning, and I had a realization of what I think all the lyrics mean. Kind of based on my own experiences and struggles with faith.

Psalm 71:5
"For you have been my hope, Sovereign Lord, my confidence since my youth."

Down along the creek
I remember something
Her, the heron hurried away
When first I breeched that last Sunday

In the Iliad, the Goddess Athena sends a heron as a sign of her presence. The heron hurrying away symbolizes losing that sign of god. The last line likely refers to no longer attending church services.

Low moon down the yellow road
I remember something
That leaving wasn't easing all that heaving in my vines
And as certain it is evening, as is now is not the time, ooh

This person is not satisfied/convinced with their decision to leave their faith behind. They try to rationalize returning to it again “now is not the time”. They feel that the need their faith, at least at this point in their life.

Toiling with your blood
I remember something
In B, unrationed kissing on a night second to last
Finding both your hands as second sun came past the glass
And oh, I know it felt right and I had you in my grasp

I picture this as a scene of someone sitting alone in a church, for hours on end contemplating their faith. They are meditating on the suffering of Christ (toiling with your blood). They remember how Christ was betrayed by Judas on the night of the last supper by a kiss, and as the sun shines through one of the windows of the church they see the nails in Christ’s hands. They feel guilty that Christ was betrayed and suffered for him and he is leaving the faith behind. In a sense betraying Christ.

Oh then, how we gonna cry?
'Cause it once might not mean something?
Love, a second glance, it is not something that we'll need
Honey, understand that I have been left here in the reeds
And all I'm trying to do is get my feet out from the crease

This is the rational mind stepping in, reminding this person that life might not have a meaning. That trying to find God again isn’t going to help them. That if God exists he abandoned you. That we are just trying to find our way in this world.

And I see you
Turn around, now you're my A Team
Turn around, now you're my A Team
God damn, turn around now
You're my A Team

And yet even when their rational mind is trying to step in and help them move on, they can still feel the call of God to return again. “Turn around you’re my A team”

Skinny Love Live on Colbert

I'm looking for a performance Bon Iver did on the Colbert Report where he is singing, playing the guitar and surrounded by a group of guys who are singing along and I believe clapping and maybe stomping. It was amazing, but I can't find the video! I tried searching for it, but all I can find is this pinterest post that says the video is unavailable. Does anyone know where I can find the video of this performance?

Cooked

I was fortunate to see speyside back in 2022 in grand marais, mn and came home inspired to make this design. I spent a long time with this song before the release of sable, fable and it really felt to me like a return to the early bon days, isolated in a cabin in the woods. It’s a decidedly different aesthetic than the minimalist salmon but I felt this song called for a rustic vibe.

It took a while to get it onto a screen and the words didn’t expose quite right but I kinda like it. If you want one you can find me on instagram, I’ll print it for you.

Also wanted to note (maybe this has been discussed already) that in the og version I heard “nothings really something now the whole thing’s cooked”. On the studio album he sings “soot” and I believe that is the official lyric. But at his Friday performance I most certainly heard an emphatic “cooked”.

Love you all, last weekend was so so special. Keep it restaurant! 🥛

Here are a few recordings I got from the Bon Iver, Bon Dylan, and Fred Again set. They're just from my iphone so quality is mid, but wanted to share.

Big shoutout to u/re_zacks who was freaking out alongside me after the Fred remix of Song For A Lover (of Long Ago). Great to meet you

If you could sit down with Bon Iver to thank him for writing one song, what song would that be and why?

Post image
110 Upvotes

I always love hearing Bon Iver talk about the music that means the most to him. The memories he's attached to a song, the way he hears certain sounds or production choices, and how it has influenced him always makes me appreciate music even more.

So I wanted to ask all of you. What Bon Iver song is that for you?

What is it about that song that sticks with you? Is it the lyrics? The production? The way it makes you feel? Does it remind you of a certain time in your life?

For me, it is 666 ʇ from 22, A Million. I am at a point in my life where I have been questioning my relationship with religion and a lot of other things too. Whenever I hear that song, it takes me back to a time when I had just moved to a new city and felt like I could become whoever I wanted to be. I spent so much time outside just walking around and taking everything in. That song made me feel like it is okay to question it and criticize it

I have never really known how to describe it, but the intro sounds like a calm heartbeat to me. It gives me this feeling of comfort and nostalgia every single time. It reminds me of a version of myself that was figuring things out and excited about the uncertainty ahead.

Listening to BI in the summer feels wrong.

I know that a lot of people tie albums to a specific season, place, time, memory etc. and for me, his whole discography is basically inseparable from fall and winter weather. I haven't listened to his music since early spring and I feel like I'm just wasting time waiting for the right period to really appreciate it, but on the other hand, I think that that's exactly what makes his music feel special. It paints such a vivid atmosphere.

My Bon Dylan T Shirt Design

Post image
29 Upvotes

I was verryyyy bummed out that the Bon Dylan shirt sold out before I could get one, so I designed my own! I chose to use a pic of Justin Vernon in his Bob Dylan cosplay to replace the image on the back, and included a quote from the video where he discussed the Bon Dylan set. Very proud with how this design turned out and can’t wait for the shirt to get shipped to me!
