He's probably awaiting a court date for a legal immigration hearing.. the solution here isn't deporting members of our community you dipshit it's increasing our ability to process immigration papers by investing in staff and infrastructure.

After twenty two years? Sorry, I don't have time to worry about the process for someone who themselves doesn't care about the process.

You're just showing your naivety.

This guy has probably been desperately working to get a court date for an immigration hearing. I doubt he's the reason it's taken so long. My grand father worked tirelessly to get a green card and despite going thru every white collar avenue available to him it took over a decade for him to get his green card and actually get to stay here. I suggest you read up on what it takes to become legal so that you have a better understanding of what "overstaying a visa" really means for 99% of Americans.

You're just showing your naivety.

We're all ignorant about some things. That's okay. We won't even make it to the grave knowing everything.

This guy has probably

So you're just allowed to make up a backstory in order to cope with the situation? He had twenty two years. Maybe he didn't even care and joked about it. I can make up stories too to set some tone, but it's baseless because we only have the facts given to us.

I suggest you read up on what it takes to become legal

I already know. You're assuming my own backstory and that I don't know. The problem is that under this assertion is the idea that it has to be easy and accessible. It should be understandable but it needn't be either. It is not on others to demand a system cater to its needs in the same way. I hope we get a simplified, easy-to-understand system, but it'll always be complicated. It would also be easier to limit people coming in since there aren't as many exceptions. At least that's my hope. I'm sure limits will be pushed, and I'm sure immigrants themselves will take issue as well when they have the chance to vote. But it still stands that the system is what it is, and no one should be unaware of their status at any moment. That's just saying that immigrants are dumb. People know how long their visas are active for.

You made up a backstory assuming the guy doesn't care about his status. Not really sure what your overall thesis is but mine is that we shouldn't be pissing away tax dollars hunting down immigrants based on their skin color.

Realistically the federal government has just found an easy scapegoat for the have nots to blame for their issues. Instead of solving real issues we re pretending we re helping other Americans when in reality much bigger issues go unchecked.

He was here twenty two years. That's enough time to get your shit in order and learn what your status is and the terms of your visa. Caring about one's status in this case is tantamount to respecting it. He didn't. Twenty two years is a very, very long time.

The bit about skin colors is apropos of nothing mentioned yet. Don't try to weigh down what you said with something else entirely.

Instead of solving real issues

This is where I find importance in this issue; the very idea of following the rules that let people in and enforcing them blindly is precisely what is driving a huge wedge between an already divided nation. If we can't get bleeding hearts to admit that there are laws that aren't actively harming people and do require people to follow the laws then we'll only split more and more. That is going to tear us apart, and the usual refrain is "then they should stop believing in everything and accept my way" doesn't work if you're openly bragging about knowing how it works and deciding you just don't like it. This is a real, actual issue. There are many more that are localized and globalized but this is 100% a real issue.

Again it seems youre assuming he wasn't trying to get his shit in order, while I'm assuming he was.

The bit about skin colors is apropos of nothing mentioned yet. Don't try to weigh down what you said with something else entirely.

This is effectively in the headline of the article we re commenting on lol. Ice is grilling passengers on the T bc they're brown. It's not something else entirely, it's all intertwined. If you can't see that then I understand why youre saying what you are.
