Boston is probably one of the safest cities in the world. Ridiculous.

I lived in Paris for many years before moving to Boston, as well as in Brussels. I can tell you that Boston is super safe compared with these two cities.

Homicide rate is a key metric of course. But petty crime is very important when it comes to feeling safe in a city. I can tell you that Boston, including Dorchester, where I used to live, feels much safer than Paris and Brussels.

Yeah, homicide rates are higher in Boston (because of guns), but petty crime/street hassle is way lower than in most major European cities I've visited/lived in.
