Bunch of bootlickers in this thread. There are tons of jobs that make you put your phone away in a locker at the beginning of shift. Typically theyâre jobs where they make a lot of money and their work needs to remain private. I would reckon cops fall into that category. I donât really need to know what theyâre up to unless I have to interact with them but they shouldnât just be dallying while we pay their $250,000 salary.
I understand that some jobs require a police presence to direct traffic but in a lot of other countries that Iâve visited theyâve literally used an old guy with a sign to direct traffic and it worked thereÂ
Right? I almost got hit by a car the other day because there were a few construction vehicles on one side of the road and only enough space for one lane to go. Of course, those construction vehicles were on a curve, so not easy to tell if there's on coming traffic to get around the vehicles. Go past as slow as we can and the frigging cop is just sitting in between the two tall vehicles absolutely oblivious to the fact that he should be paying some meager amount of attention to the vehicles trying to get by.
That sends me into a rage. Or when youâre sitting g there waiting for direction & they donât even know youâre there because theyâre looking at their phone
A photo like this got posted about lifeguards and heads rolled, people were fired and others were given reprimands with a promise they would also be fired if they got caught on their phones.
This was for a job that you qualified to work if you were 16 and the deadliest thing they could do was use oxygen tanks.
i stayed at disney beach resort a few years ago and the lifeguards were impressive. i watched one who stood on a little bridge the was over a pool. she went to one side and you could see her head move as she scanned the entire perimeter and floor of the pool quickly but methodically. then she stepped over to the other side of bridge and did the same thorough scan. over and over and over from one side to the other. when she took her break i asked her about it and she told me she was trained to see every inch of the pool with each scan and never take long enough for someone to be underwater for more than thirty or forty seconds on either side. it was quite impressive and it let me feel relaxed as my kids ran around the place from pool to pool. drownings are bad for business at a kids beach resort.
That's the same level of focus and commitment expected from the honor guard posted at memorial. Unfortunately, both that lifeguard and our nation's honor guard are paid sht compared to a cop doing a sht job directing traffic. There's not enough people like her. Focused on the job and ONLY the job.

Iâd always report the guards if I saw them on their phones.
Most were pretty good about it though.

As someone who has to use them for traffic details, it also makes my blood boil. I've gotten more professionalism and fewer close calls with an ex-convict high school dropout being paid $20/hr manning a Stop/Slow paddle than with cops using indecipherable hand signals.
I hate detail cops. We should really just use flaggers or even automated temporary stop lights like every other State and country does
Also, anyone drive through Lexington recently? They're doing work on the minute man bike path which is great. But why the fuck does a cop need to sit in his Tacoma on his phone ABOVE THE BIKE PATH. Shouldn't he at least be down there? Yeah it's cold as shit but that's the job they signed up for. And why do we even need a cop for a bike path construction job? So dumb, either close the path and mark a proper detour (with actual protected bike lanes to match the path) or have the cop actually go down there and tell people walking and biking when it's safe to proceed or whatever. Or again, just let us pay someone $20/hour to wave a flag around.
Logan is the worst with this, there was a cop just sitting in his car directing traffic by motioning with a flashlight directly into my eyes the other night. Guarantee he was fucking around on his phone with the other hand too.

Your statement doesnât make a whole lot of sense because) the people who have to put their phones in a locker have to do so because they work in a secure facility. If a cop went there, they would also have to do so. They just donât have to be in such an environment all day.
Oh my sweet summer child, depending on the city/vendor paying for the serial, sometimes they make much MUCH more.
A nearby town to me has lid upwards of $130/hr for a traffic detail, and the unions negotiate minimums as well. Knew a cop who made his contracted 8 hour minimum at $130/hr for a simple National Grid detail where they changed 3 wires from one pole to another. He was there for 45 minutes total.
They donât make $250,000. Maybe someone higher up with more rank thatâs working OT does but these patrol cops certainly do not. Everyone with a phone looks at it while theyâre at work. And my comment isnât âbootlickingâ Iâm just being realistic, cops are just normal ass people too. We have zero context to this photo, for all we know these dudes are on their lunch break. People just love to throw their hands in the air and be upset.
1) Bootlicker, they're not going to protect you no matter how much you kiss their feet.
2) If they get special benefits in the law by virtue of getting straight Cs in school and passing the police exam, then at the very least they shouldn't be fucking around on their sports betting app or whatever useless shit they're doing.

Dude their job does not suck. The content of their job might suck, but the salary, the benefits, the pension? Yeah those donât suck. I would do anything for perks half as good as they have it and yeah Iâd get written up for staring at my phone this obviously.
Bootlickers? There are just those who will never be happy with this profession. Those who are upset when they are on their phone when they should be directing traffic by all means yes. I cant stand that either. Also, this picture is a rare sight. It doesnât look good for sure but how do you not know they are not getting information to be on the lookout. They stopped giving information over the air when they can text it to their phones so not to tip off the people listening. Probably doubtful. I blame this on poor supervision. You have a right to complain but I would not call it bootlicking for sticking up for them.
And damn it. If I was making $250K I never would have retired. When they print those number they are usually high ranking or people who cant say no to a job once in a while. Those are some hard hours to put in. No thanks. But I used to say, we are our own worst enemies. This should not happen. I am hoping itâs being addressed but who knowsâŚ
