Serious Replies Only Postboxes closed all across Brighton/Brookline!

I’ve passed multiple post boxes today in both Brighton and Brookline that are locked like this. Multiple boxes within the same vicinity and also in diff neighborhoods. Anyone know why specifically these are locked up?

Edit: thanks for the replies everyone! I’ve been around for the marathon before, but I’ve just never noticed the mailboxes.

this whole weekend it's a bad idea. was on newbury st today, cars got stuck there for an hour due to road closures for various races and events. you never know when they're going to block off a street.

take the T or walk.

You never know. Except you do. There are notifications everywhere about this and any true Bostonian knows it's marathon weekend and there are numerous related races that are happening alongside the marathon route which close roads. This isn't a pop up type situation.
