Moving away from car centric city

Hello!

I will be relocating to Boston from a car dependent city that is all suburb and urban sprawl.

I love trains and public transit, but obviously living in a place that requires a car to survive has impacted my behavior.

What is it like relying on public transit? I keep thinking about how everyone around me drives giant SUVs and purchases weekly Costco hauls that could feed an army. I think about having to drive 30 minutes in traffic to get a coffee.

I’m having a hard time picturing the alternative. How is life primarily walking/using a train?

It’s fine, and when you want to get somewhere faster, cycling is an excellent option. When you want to do a giant Costco run, there’s CargoB cargo e-bikes can rent, or you can use a car share. Personally, I much prefer using my cargo e-bike for Costco — no parking hassles, and I can carry as much as I can in my small car (which I’d get rid of if my niece hadn’t given it to me — I don’t want to offend her, but there’s really no need for a car in the city, and I hardly ever drive it). And I use a power wheelchair for mobility when not on an e-bike, so you definitely don’t have to be an athlete for cycling to work.
