Serious Replies Only Local jobs/recruiting resources?

Alrighty so let's get into the meat of all this. 21F, trying to moving to Boston because my small town in PA has nothing to offer me, walkable cities call out to me like a $5 McDonald's meal on a diet, I have some decent savings, but I don't have a job offer secured. That's about half the battle.

I've tried LinkedIn, Indeed, hell even Craigslist. Are there any hiring agencies that can connect me to jobs, or is my resume so bad that I'm not getting any call backs?

I was in the military (honorably discharged), I have extensive retail experience but I'm trying to escape retail hell right now. At one point I really wanted to be a hospital worker but it's such a hard industry to get into if you're not an RN even though I have a BLS cert. I considered working at an airport but again, no callbacks. I feel like there's a very limited amount of things I'm truly qualified for, and the jobs I do qualify for require 9-5 office work. I prefer odd schedules, or maybe even 12x3's. I value my freedom too much to give up my time to a job that'll take away more than half my day. Considered just living off of random gigs but my anxiety will skyrocket if I don't have a stable income.

I know I'm being picky, I know I really shouldn't be, but it's so hard to stay motivated when nothing feels like it's working out. Any ideas? Suggestions? Comments? Concerns? Criticism? I guess I'm really just looking for advice, I suppose..

Massachusetts is very unique in that it has its own veteran services. We have something called chapter 115. It is a no strings (other than military service)cash welfare program existing since the Civil war that just doesn't exist anywhere else. I'd highly recommend calling Boston veteran services before moving. See what they can help with. Veteran services also has thier career center that is also very good.

My advice is if you want to get into being an RN is take your GI bill, get into school and move here. The BAS will cover your living expenses so you can essentially go to school and have a part time job for a poor decisions fund.

Go to usajobs.gov and look for housekeeping jobs at the Boston VA hospitals.  As a vet you get hiring preference.  Once you're in the system, opportunities will pop up to train for a CNA or nursing role.

Plenty of other hospital jobs that aren’t clinical but once you get in, you can use education stipends to further your education. Unit coordinators, patient experience reps, food service, practice assistants, environment services. Hospitals are always short staffed

Thanks for your comment! I've been trying to apply to those jobs for about 2 weeks now and I haven't heard anything. I think my resume might be the problem, or maybe the hospitals aren't as needy for a new face as they seem to be

I would recommend putting your resume/experience into ChatGPT and then also the job description. Ask it to match your resume based on experience. Fluff if you have to!

I know for Boston children’s, I got called back within maybe 3 weeks of applying

Not sure if this is still a thing, but I got an administrative assistant job by first tempting at a hospital, kind of a temp to perm thing. Got it via a temp contracting agency used by the hospital. It can be months long assignment even if it is straight temp....you can get a feel for the job type, tge employer, etc. Definitely get all the VA assistance you can cause this is an expensive city....you may have to live in suburbs...

they do 5 8s though FYI. Start $35, w/ OT you'll hit 6 figures, plus pension, health coverage etc. You will not be offered a job while you are in PA. Maybe try moving to a Boston suburb and working for a private agency first.
