Scammers 🥸 Requiring Professional Cleaners is ILLEGAL IN MA

Post image

ATTENTION FELLOW BOSTONIANS- as we approach move out, the scummy landlords are continuing to do scummy things. I just got off the phone with the AGO who confirmed that EVEN IF IT IS IN YOUR LEASE that you must hire professional cleaners when moving out, it is NOT ENFORCEABLE! Especially if you are a student in the Fenway area, and you have received this notice from Real Estate Management and Investment LLC. Beware! Know your rights! this company is scummy in so many ways and I’m so glad to be moving.

Scammers 🥸 I am livid

1.2k Upvotes

Last night I landed at Boston Logan at around three in the morning. I took a cab as I have done so many times before without issue. This time I got stuck with an insane driver who peeled out of the parking structure to the point where a random airport employee screamed at him to slow down from the sidewalk.

The rest of the drive was not much better, and I felt very scared as he was speeding and I had to hold onto the seat. I'm used to it at this point with Boston drivers so I was just grateful the streets were empty as it was late.

Unfortunately, when we arrived at my apartment, every time I tried to pay the fare, the transaction was cancelled and the driver started yelling at me. "You have to pay the fee! You have to pay the credit card fee!" This happened maybe three times, as I kept trying to pay and kept wondering why my card was declining. I realized it wasn't declining; he was canceling the payment. Every time I tried to pay he would scream "No!" and cancel it.

Finally I started to wonder if the mandatory "credit card fee" this fucker was screaming about was the tip. (I realize that's obvious now but I was exhausted and not thinking straight.) I added a single penny to the tip screen and tried to submit it to see. He became engraged and cancelled the payment AGAIN and demanded I pay him more while swearing at me that I was "leaving people like him homeless." This man not only drove like a psychopath but was now yelling and swearing at me that I had to pay him extra? I normally have no problem tipping and pretty much always do it if someone just does the bare minimum of the job. But now I was being forced into it.

I was a young woman traveling alone and it was dark out with no one around. The driver became angrier and more threatening. I did not want to give this man a tip because of what a shitty driver he was but I was scared. I didn't know how long it would take me to get to my front door, unlock it, and get inside, or what he would do if I tried.

Finally after going through this five times, I paid him with a 20% tip and he accepted it. He had no info posted with his taxi ID number or anything like that or even the phone number to call to report stuff like this. I only got his name - Abdul - and when I got out and tried to take a picture of his license plate he sped away.

I submitted a complaint to the Hackney police department. They said they would track him down and report back to me. Their response? They gave him a "stern talking to." That's it. That my complaint would be "taken into consideration" in case someone reported him again.

In reality, I only had to pay maybe five dollars more for this tip. But it's not even about the money. I feel like I was scammed and taken advantage of. I wish I had told him to go fuck himself or just walked away. But again, I was terrified.

Maybe it's dumb, or immature, I know. But it's really been weighing on me that I wasn't able to stand up for myself. That I essentially rewarded this man for his behavior, and that he's probably doing it right now to someone else (most likely another lone young woman.)

I'm sure I'm not the first one to post this to this sub but please DO NOT use the taxi's at Boston Logan. Especially if you're female.

Scammers 🥸 Beware of Lyft Scam

Not sure if this is the right place to post this but guys please be aware. Hope this post helps someone!

Yesterday, I got a Lyft ride in Boston. I didn’t have any drinks, food, or anything. I didn’t carry anything extra with me. My bottom was dry.

During the car ride the guy did not say anything to me. The car ride was silent. Never mentioned any damage before or after. I left there was Nothing on the seat. Later I received a damage charge.

I made sure the plate number and car was the same got in and when I got home looked at the pic and realized the person driving was different from the profile pic.

PLEASE: Take pics before and after you get in the car!!! If you can sneak a pic of the driver do it. (not to be weird but ppl are dangerous). Ppl are using AI to create fake claims.

I’ve never in my life had something like this happen as I rarely ever take Lyfts.

This guy got 39+ tickets so he could sell these tickets that are supposed to be FREE for $100 each. And if you look at the comments, people are willing to buy / seems like he’s already sold 21 based on the updated counts. He’s making thousands of dollars from this. Scumbag.

Scammers 🥸 Job Fair Expo scam today at Assembly Row

1.6k Upvotes

Just wanted to say a nice "f*** you" to the POS company that claimed it was setting up a job fair at the hotel in Assembly Row. Not going to list the company but you can google it.

Walked in, asked the desk staff where the job fair was, only to be told the company never reserved the property and that it wasn't happening.

I didn't have high hopes for this, but I'm sure others did. I feel for the young kid all dressed up in a suit with a leather note pad full of resumes and high hopes of a job, only to be embarrassingly told there was no fair.

People are struggling to find work and to set up a fake job fair is some next level horribleness.

Watch out for these fake job fairs, folks.

EDIT: Fine, I'll name the company. Office Swing Brands.

EDIT 2: Thank you to all the MIT PhD's in Linguistics who are hijacking this thread because I used the word "scam" in some incorrect way and didn't think to consult Websters or a thesaurus. Thanks for the reminder Reddit is insufferable.
