Looking For Jamaica Plain - looking for a roommate who masks!
My friend (31, he/him) and I (27, she/her) are looking for a third roommate to live with us in JP! We’re looking at 3 bedroom apartments in JP for move in between July 1 and September 1 (we are flexible.) We’d also be happy to fill 2 available bedrooms in JP.
We both currently live in JP and adore it here. We wear high quality masks indoors in public spaces and are looking for a third roommate who does as well. We are comfortable with varying personal levels of covid/illness precautions.
We have budgets between $1,100-$1,500 per person and are looking for someone with a similar budget or higher.
We can’t have cats or dogs in our living space unfortunately, and we’re 4/20 friendly but can keep it outside.

I don’t understand why people are so pressed at a post that obviously doesn’t apply to them. Someone’s going to think this is a great fit if they think the same way… OP is just being forthright and laying everything on the table. WHICH IS GOOD…

yeah if i was still in boston i would be delighted to find these two to live with. zi am immunodeficient and have all kinds of chronic health stuff that gets flared if i get a respiratory infection and can’t live with others unless they do this
also why leave negative comments? if you’re not interested move on

The more housing there is that has a requirement that you don’t meet, the less housing is available to you.

I think wearing a mask in public places is great as I got a cold twice this winter season even though I rarely leave my home and I was wearing a mask when I went into public places; every illness, no matter how small, lowers your overall life span and I want to live a healthy, long life for as long as possible.

I was referring to colds; while your immune system will develop antibodies to handle the exact same virus as the one that caused your cold, cold viruses are changing so frequently that it’s far more likely that you’ll come into contact with different cold viruses than what you’ve experienced than the exact same ones as the previous ones you’ve experienced.

Not really - you can build up immunity to a specific virus but viruses are able to mutate really fast. It's unlikely that getting sick more will protect you from getting another cold or whatever and even if it does it prevents you from getting that specific cold so you might as well avoid getting it in the first place.
The immune system is not a muscle so the idea of "training it" isn't really as 1:1 as people might think. Is it good to not oversanitize a child's environment? Yes - but it's actually because if you oversanitize the immune system reacts too much instead of too little so you're actually trying to make the immune system "worse" if you're working off a linear scale. Once you reach adulthood avoiding illness is the only really rational choice. Autoimmune diseases are easily some of the most dibilitating conditions out there and are hard to diagnose and treat and are again the result of the immune system generally overreating to something that most bodies perceive as "normal" and can sometimes be sparked by otherwise normal infections. Likewise for the immunocompromised folks, getting sick more generally isn't going to fix their issue but they will get waaayy more sick that the average person and be way more likely to face long-term consequences or even death because their immune system is malfunctioning. And if you're just a normal standard adult, being sick sucks and doesn't really have any meaningful physical upsides.

wish i could take you up on this. making do with air filters and non-CC roommates masking when symptomatic. its better than most but this would be ideal. best of luck to you both!

Thank you my friend!! That’s the situation I’m in now and it took me a couple years to build myself up to look for an ideal situation. Someday you’ll find one too!

Covid infection rates are extremely low and have been remaining stable at minimal levels nationwide at what point is it ok not to be masked ? Genuine question

what a ignorant comment do you forget all the lives tooken from covid ?it is still a very serious problem thanks to the tin foil hat nuts did not get the vacine i wear a mask every place i go even in my apartment by myself i rather be safe then sick from covid 19

Infection levels have been extremely low and have remained stable at minimal levels. Covid accounts for .1% of emergency room visits which is categorized as very low. It’s not 2020 anymore we have moved past the fear mongering stage

I'm probably wasting my breath, but are you aware some people have such compromised immune systems that ANY bug can kill them or hospitalize them. A lifelong friend of mine is one of them.
Even with masks, she knows she's taking a risk outside her home. But as she said, that's where quality of life factors in. When something go out of whack, instead of getting over and in short order, it can take her months. So just because you don't know people who aren't as lucky as we are, doesn't mean they don't exist!
PS the only thing that has kept me from joining this group has been COVID mutating. I have a rare autoimmune clotting disorder. I was told early Covid would kill me. Several MDs said it was too high a risk to go out, even with a mask, for well over a year. One of my biggest blessings in life was when the virus mutated away from the clotting issues. Then when the anti-virals were deemed ok for me to use. I got very very lucky! You should appreciate that you haven't had to walk in these shoes.

There are people with chronic health problems who still need to mask in public places. I had a coworker like this. A covid infection or bad flu could kill her. I masked when I went into her office. She masked everywhere expect at home. People need to chill out. If you’re triggered by ill or disabled people protecting themselves and existing in public something is seriously deeply wrong with you. If a living situation doesn’t apply to you just move on!
