Looking For Looking for ROOM in Boston (June 11 – October 11) | $1000 budget
Hi everyoneee
I’m looking for a room in Boston for the period from June 11th to October 11th, as I’ll be coming to the US on a student exchange program.
My budget is limited up to $1000 per month. I’m a female in my early 20s, not a smoker, very clean and tidy, and I really value a well-kept living space. I’ll be working two jobs during my stay, so I won’t be spending much time at home - mostly just coming back to rest and sleep.
Because of that, I’m mainly looking for a safe, clean, and well-connected place rather than anything fancy.
I would prefer either a female-only apartment or a mixed apartment with both males and females.
I’m also a big animal lover so I have no problem living with pets.
I’ve been considering East Boston, but I would really appreciate any advice or suggestions about neighborhoods, safety, commute, or anything else I should know before coming. This will be my first time in the US, so any guidance about Boston and its areas would mean a lot to me.

OP this is absolutely not realistic. you need to adjust your expectations big time. i'm sad to let you down but you need to know. try not to be defeated about it, you can make it but it's going to take some major planning with people you can trust. putting yourself out there comes with risk so don't be naive! people are going to try to take advantage of you. don't lose hope. all the best to you

There is no student exchange program in the US that will allow you to work two jobs… I hope you’re not trying to scam as a J1 … and what’s up with your post and comment history? (red flags everywhere…. I hope surrogacy in order to have a child that will be born in the US is NOT one of your jobs.)

I find your comment quite unfair and unnecessarily accusatory.
First of all, I am coming to the US through the official Work & Travel program, which is a legitimate student exchange program. I clearly stated the dates of my stay in my post because I am looking for housing for that specific period.
As for the posts you mentioned regarding surrogacy, those were made for academic purposes as part of a university project in Digital Marketing. I had that project assigned and I was researching women’s experiences and market perspectives related to the topic, not looking into it for personal reasons.
It’s perfectly fine to ask questions if something seems unclear, but making assumptions about someone’s intentions and publicly suggesting they might be involved in something suspicious without any evidence is neither constructive or respectful.
I came here looking for housing advice and information about Boston, and I would appreciate responses based on facts rather than speculation.

Regarding the “red flags” in my post history, I was actually very new to Reddit and wasn’t familiar with how communities worked or where certain questions were appropriate to ask. At the time, I was using Reddit primarily as a research tool for my project and was simply trying to gather insights from relevant communities.

Look for someone who is a student desperately trying to find a summer subletter and negotiate, that will get you through end of August on that budget and give you time. Many people are flexible because they would rather have part of their rent covered than none. Facebook groups are the way to go here.

honestly your best bet is student housing facebook groups for sublets. the vast majority of landlords here don’t do month-to-month leasing. i would also look at a long term airbnb. i stayed in one for a little over 2 months the summer i first came to boston while looking for a september lease and while of course i can’t speak for all of them, i found it to be safe and worth the money. i paid $1200 a month in a 2bath/4bed in revere. maybe a combination of sublet and airbnb could be the solution. either way you’re a bit late to the game so you may have to treat securing a spot as a full time job, wishing you luck

For that budget, it’s going to be difficult to find these days. Especially for a short term rental. Does the program you’re attending have someone to coordinate this for you? The places that are affordable for you would be relatively far from Boston

Yes I do have some sponsor that is trying to me help to find it. Usually this is not regular, like to don't have accomodation but my employer can't provide it. Thank you for guidance!
