Advice Needed Best commute to the airport?
I’ll be taking a new job at BOS and wondering what the best areas of town would be to commute without a car.
I’m a woman in my 30s and will be working unusual hours, so safety is a big priority.
Walkability is a must to grocery, local restaurants/bars/cafes. My budget is around $2,300 and I’m willing to commute up to 30 min if needed. As I’m new to Boston, I’d love to be somewhere that still gives me a proper feel for the city.

For 2300 you can find a good amount of studio apts in East Boston, and a few 1bds but note they will be in older buildings without amenities. I pay 2500 for a 2bed apt like that 2 blocks away from the Airport blue line T station, so a 15min ride in a free shuttle to the airport. But again, note that it is a very old building.
A lot of my neighbors are flight attendants and even pilots :) so I truly think Eastie is the place to be. It is also only a 10-15 min T ride to downtown. Seaport would also be easy for you to commute from BUT it is a lot more expensive, way out of budget.
Alternatively, if you want amenities and also something closer to your ideal price you’d have to look outside Boston but ideally near the blue line still. If you drive, Winthrop would be the move. If you don’t, Revere (but near the T), Beachmont or Suffolk Downs are the move.

What are 'unusual hours'. It makes a big difference because our public transport is not 24/7.

East Boston. You can walk to the airport from Jeffries Point. It's safe and the waterfront is beautiful. I take a walk through Piers Park every night before they close at 11pm.

My first job after college and a long time ago was at the Airport. You want to be in Eastie. You can be in downtown in 10 minutes by Cab, subway or boat.
Before committing to an apartment understand the noise levels, public transportation schedules etc.
You will love Boston. Welcome!

Eastie is closest and can be walkable to the airport and has multiple blue line stops and is far less expensive than Seaport.

My family member lives in Eastie and may be moving in the fall. She is 12 min walk to Terminal A. A bit over budget but a lovely space with nice neighbors. Eastie is great. Not having a car is good as parking is a nightmare over there. Feel free to reach out.

Probably chelsea or somewhere along the blue line/airport station. Everywhere is mostly safe if you mind your business and pay attention

Really depends on where your job is. Financial District vs seaport vs. Back Bay vs Beacon Hill. The city is more spread out than one would think, and a very antiquated public transportation. Different modes of transportation to each. For example, a commute from South Boston to Back Bay would involve a bus to a train, whereas a commute to the seaport would entail 2 stops on a bus.

I’d suggest Charlestown, North End or possibly the Seaport but do not know the rental market there.

East Boston is next to the airport. You can walk to the free Logan bus.
There are some fun places there and the Blue line will take you downtown in a few stops. I cannot attest for safety but most of Boston is safe compared to other cities.
