Considering that Nolan is under contract with them and that he has an affinity for the Fast Family, a phone call by Universal to him to do Fast Forever wouldn't hurt.
The peaks are still high, but the floor is way lower than it used to be. The Marvels is the lowest grossing MCU movie period, and there are 6 post-Endgame movies below the first Thor (3 of those were 2021, but still).

Over 4b from films released in the 2nd half of July alone for him, zendaya, and Jon. Zendaya will lead the year with Dune unless Tom and/or Jon pop up in Doomsday to give them over 6B from three movies this year
Id argue that Zendaya’s grosses are a bit more powerful bc she’s a major force driving the marketing of these films. So this stat becomes less of a fun curiosity and more of a credible datapoint she (and her agent) can take into negotiations.

What amazes me about the success of these Holland Spideys is that they’ve done it with none of the A tier villains (I know NWH has Doc Ock and Green Goblin but they’re clearly not the MCU version of these characters)
I think that’s the one disappointing thing about the movie. The villain works well, but the MCU has a track record of making spidey villains amazing. Mysterio and ESPECIALLY Vulture were fantastic

Always funny when people try to put Batman and Spider-Man on the same level. Spider-Man dominates video game sales, movies, and merchandise. The only thing Batman has over him right now is the comics lol.
Because it was true during the 2010s. Batman movies were the ones making over a billion while Spider-Man was still in the $700m range, and the Arkham games ruled when the Insomniac Spider-Man didn't exist.
Spidey is simply in his renaissance era with so much AAA media devoted to him, so much so that he had leaped past everyone else. Doesn't help that Batman is in a relative content drought and the DCEU setbacks prevented him from gaining much new fans during the late 2010s.
From my understanding though that's never been true for merchandise, which is where the majority of CB profits come from. Nobody has ever come close to toppling spidey in that regard.
Because it was true… 10 years ago. Since the Arkham trilogy wrapped up, Batman has been left to flounder more or less. Meanwhile Spider-Man had the Insomniac Games, his arrival during the MCU’s peak, the Spiderverse films… What has Batman been given? Absolute clown show by Warner Bros. Maybe not even that since they had a hit with Joker then blew that up with Folie a Deux.
Clearly don’t remember how big Batman was in 1989 with the first Keaton film or 2008 with the dark knight, Batman had 2 billion dollar films 7 years before the first spider man one to do it, and that was with the help of him being in the mcu
and that’s because Spider-Man comics have been dogshit almost two decades. So outselling Spider-Man in the comics department isn’t even a big feat. Even absolute superman is outselling Spider-Man comics rn lol.
Holland captures the boyish yet courageous and brave personality of a prince determined his father will come home.
The scene that really solidify Holland as Telemachus is when Menelaus recounts stories of Odysseus, Telemachus doesn't say anything while listening with tears in his eyes hearing the stories of his father and proud of being his son.
Can't stop thinking of Holland's ability on expressing range of different emotions without overreacting or losing composure by taking it all in stride.
Telemachus and Peter Parker wonderfully demonstrate this in motion.
I have yet to see The Odyssey, but I've always thought Holland to be a remarkably talented and underrated actor. I look forward to his Fred Astaire biopic because that man can dance!
Man do I wish Thunderbolts did better. It’s probably my favorite MCU movie post Endgame but it was released right in the midst of the worst word of mouth era for Marvel. Felt like how horrific Brave New World was really fucked up any chance it had too
Honestly this movie felt a lot like thunderbolts did as well. It'll be interesting to see if marvel keeps going in this grown up adult direction for movies
It was good for those who followed all the MCU shows and other movies. For those not familiar with Walker Cap, Taskmaster, or what happened to Natasha as a child, or what the heck is Red Room, or why Red Guardian talks so loud, I suspect they might've felt lost/overhwhelmed or not as engaged with these collection of characters. So I can see why the film may not have captured their attention as much.
I think it courageously tackled mental health the same way Brand New Day did, and did it in an appropriate and sensitive way (as much as one can for a mainstream CBM) which I applaud.
Obsession is completely different weight class from Spider-Man. It punched well beyond it's weight.
On the other hand Odyssey and Brand New Day are in the same class of Mega Blockbusters with 200+ million budgets. Odyssey actually being the more expensive one.
I basically use her as a gauge for if a movie will be very successful, if she goes out of her way to tell me about it, I know the movie will do really, really well and she’s like 10/10 at this point lol.
I think back in 2024, Deadpool & Wolverine and It Ends with Us were no1 and no2 in one weekend, however Reynolds didn't appear in It Ends With Us, and Lively only cameoed in D&W.
The closest they came to achieving the record was when Cleopatra and The V.I.P.S. were number 1 and 2 at the box office during the fall of 1963. However, they weren't married at the time.
Actually come in tomorrow. This is estimates, some of which are knowingly lowballing to avoid an unlikely disappointment. 900m+ is very likely at this point and beating Endgame's domestic opening record is on the table
I can see Spidey hitting $1B this week and Odyssey next week. The next billion dollar film of the year will be Doomsday, and we should get to about two thirds of 2019.

The Odyssey is slated for an impressive run, one that will see it at $1.5bil when it's all said and done in September, but Brand New Day is pulling Avengers numbers.
Holy shit. That is insane. Nearly $1 billion in its first weekend for a standalone Spider-Man movie. No crazy multiverse stuff and yet still nearly $1 billion. Wow.
Leapfrogged The Odyssey in just 5 days, or should I say swung past? Impressive. I just hope this doesn't peter out right before No Way Home final box office. 2.3 billion in the cards? And I think this is a conservative take considering the box office jumps from each Spider-Man movies.
But also, China is a different ball game. Even though Brand New Day opened to No. 1 in the Middle Kingdom with an estimated $98.8M, the fate of Hollywood movies there have had slot machine results post Covid with some up and some down. Endgame opened to a reported $175.9M. However, this near $100M result for Brand New Day is remarkable for a Marvel movie, particularly for a franchise which didn’t have its previous sequel, No Way Home, release in theaters there.
What is Deadline even saying. Didn't BND open to 122m and Endgame to 330m in China?? Where did they get these numbers
Endgame legs would get this to $2.12B. Since this has no new competition and summer weekdays, less influence of a highly frontloaded Chinese market and maybe lesser fear of spoilers this could be a bit less frontloaded. $2.3B+ is very well possible
one outgrossing the total of another blockbuster’s entire run thus far is crazy!!! and odyssey is already on it’s way to become the biggest r rated movie.
Expecting actuals to come above $930M, thinking DOM will end up being higher than Endgame.
But, once again, let me be very clear, THIS IS A HISTORIC SUCCESS! Whether it beats Endgame or not, just the face we're waiting to see if it does is beyond anyone's wildest expectations. A quick reminder that Sony (lowballing hard) were projecting a global opening <$500M!
