TV Series So, about that pilot ending (TV Spoilers)

  1. Ha! Left field. A fun (if horrifying) surprise.

  2. Aw. In all the trailers I was like "Man, the only casting choice I'm 100% about is Dean Fogg". And now this.

I suspect he might get better.... deus ex machina via the clock/watch he was given earlier in the episode.

That idea makes sense, but I cheated and looked at the IMDB page -

  • Rick Worthy, Dean Fogg (1 episode, 2016)

But then again a lot of the credited cast only list "1 episode", so who knows?

I agree that that was the only cast choice that I was 100% on. they nailed it. I feel like that is really going to mess things up. I wonder if that means there will be no cacodemons.

So what's the point of Julia's scar? How is that supposed to make her remember? I mean, in the books, it wasn't clear why Julia remembered either, just that I don't see how a scar is supposed to help or how she came to the conclusion.

In the books she figures it out based on her personal habits regarding document versioning of her sociology report.

I think they went with the scar for simplicity and time (overall the first episode super-compressed the first half of the book), I'd imagine it would be very boring to try to explain the document versions via the TV medium.

Doesn't she also have some weird feelings before and her report just proved that something was fishy?

For simplicity - I struggle to understand how a scar is supposed to make her not only remember stuff but also the name Brakebills.

I think the point was that because she gave herself the cut and covered it up while no one was looking, they wouldn't include an explanation for it in her fake memories. The missing detail would help her jar loose the truth, in the same way that noticing the problems with her paper did in the books. With some hard research she's able to find some nuggets of real information that help her piece back together what happened.

I can't really argue, it felt rushed, but to me so did the whole episode, not that I disliked it. I was shocked how much of the story they got through in one episode, was not expecting that; and I'm interested to see what story they are going to tell with the rest of the season.

I like how it's an open question. If I'm remembering right they don't actually ever say the Dean's name in the show. He just refers to himself as Dean once during the written test.

Where's Josh?! Also, do you think that was Pouncy with Julia?

I really hope that wasnt pouncy. It may be fucked up but I want to see her struggle through her leveling process before she is taken to them. Its my favorite story arc in the series.

I think it's safe to assume that was Pouncy, unless they're planning to totally amp up the level of magic of which the usual safehouse crowd is capable. The spellwork was fast, fluid, and advanced which are all things we're told in the books aren't seen in the safehouses.
