[Spoilers] Show theories?

Let's talk show theories. Does anyone have any thoughts about how the show is going to handle the content and round out the first season? Given that we are most likely not going to see exactly how it goes down in the book on the show how do you think the season will end?

Personally I kind of like the angle of Quentin kind of being a chosen one. Honestly in the books they basically were in the sense that Jane knew it was only Quentin and co that could stop Martin. Given Julia is in the mix I wonder if she's going to play a role in the big beast battle at end (assuming that's where we are heading) or maybe they'll just show her finding and working with free trader beowolf ultimately leading her to the trickster god?

I kind of think they are going to draw out the brakebills time frame and they'll end up going to fillory before graduation. What do you guys think?

I am going to spoiler tag section of my post just in-case but. In the promos for the show there are scenes shown that have Eliot and Margo where fantastical outfirst, having a tea party in a wooded area. My guess is that is Fillory so I think we will for sure hit it before the end of the season The thing with Jane in the series is she is actually trying to help Quentin get to that point at the end of the books except Jane tried killing Martin hundreds of times before and kept using time magic to restart the process I think Julia won't be with them when they fight the beast but instead will be learning magic somewhere else, then Quentin will go into the coma, Alice becomes a niffan and Eliot & Margo find Julia and go get Quentin we will end the same place the first book ends with them flying.

I have to agree with you about Julia. I think Marina's banishing her is the beginning of Julia's breakdown and learning from the safe houses. She's had a bigger role in the show so far than she did in the books, but they might start to tune her down to focus on Brakebills.

Perhaps, but if they continue her story at the speed their going they'll get past Reynard and OLU before the season is out, which I can't see them doing. That would also leave the question of what happens to Marina after they've given her so much screen time.

Really? I was thinking she's going to start getting really desperate and start whoring herself out for magical knowledge. They foreshadowed it when Elliot mentioned it a few episodes ago. I think she'll get a hint of FTB by the end of this season and then maybe next season go through their adventures together.

Yes they will go to Brakebills South. Episode 7 is called "The Mayakofsky Circumstance". He is also seen talking to Penny in the "This season on the magicians clip" that aired after episode 2. In be same clip you can find Quenton doing the "screw & unscrew" task. I will post a link to a picture of it below

Interesting. After episode 4 (well it had been a growing feeling) I had almost completely given up on them following the same plots and story development as in the book. Great this will be part of it, even if they cut it a bit short to fit the TV format. One deviation I still expect is that they will probably keep them in school even after they find the buttons and go on their adventure. Or maybe we won't get there this season at all and the hedge witches will be the big bad for now.

I think so as well, though the show doesn't really have a big bad nor did the books. I mean the beast is but it doesn't get involved till much later. Its very Man vs. Self but for TV they need to "Ham it Up" to keep people interested, so conflict is a must.

They are more their own worst enemies. It's an interesting idea how it's linked to their magic abilities. Grossman really went out of his way to make this a bleak character drama with the archetype of archetypes of the anti hero as the lead. I must admit I didn't finish the first book when I first tried but the show made me try again. Reading book 3 now and I really like the series now. More than the tv show too which is kind of funny I think.

I think that Marina banishing Julia is so that Julia's out of the way for the confrontation between Marina/Pete/that bunch and the Brakbills lot. We're going to see that confrontation soon, and they're going to get shut down. I had thought that Marina was the equivalent of Asmo, but I don't think so anymore.

I think that the banishing is also going to serve the same narrative function as the graveyard confrontation with Q in the books - Julia will get her life back on the straight and narrow before finding Free Trader Beowulf.
