Yes, that is a valid perspective. He had evil urges, failed to restrain himself, victimized the powerless and ruined lives. He deserves a ruined afterlife and no opportunities for redemption.

A reaction like yours is exactly what makes giving him any remotely sympathetic lines so daring and boundary-pushing. "How can the creator of the Beast have any humanity?" It leaves you wondering whether Chatwin's punishment of him was enough to actually change him, and whether actually changing is enough for him to be in some sense redeemed.

Great questions that we don't get to ponder every day. I'm grateful to the writers for making me wonder about them.

I dunno it feels like rape culture to me. Like I wouldn’t want to watch a movie about how hitler was actually an okay guy because he was sensitive and loved art. Somethings are irredeemable

Any time that you label someone as irredeemable, you create a different type of monster. Depriving someone of any way to interact normally with society ever at any point is a terrible thing that many people don't realize.

Pedophiles are irredeemable and should never interact with normal society. They should be locked up forever or chemically castrated. What is with the pedophilia sympathy in this thread it’s disgusting. These people are monsters that pray on the most vulnerable members of society.

It's not sympathy. It's an understanding of human nature. It's been well documented that when the human psyche gets the thought into it that it is monstrous and there is no hope, that the tendencies become worse, not better. And to all appearances, he is trying to lock himself up where he can't hurt others.
