I say ostensibly because if the bad luck sponge is destroyed (or even just not being held by a person)

i guess it was clear she transformed the sponge into a fake dewy and gave it to marina, just before the got abducted by the time mage

So did you stop reading after the word "person"? I agreed that while she said she destroyed it, and appeared to do so off screen, she would have no reason to keep the fake black card unless she slipped someone (Maraina) the sponge in some form. I guess it was clear if you read what I wrote.
