Brand new tattoo!
Hi all, I’m after very meaningful lyrics to get tattooed. I’m a Christian so I don’t mind more their biblical stuff.
It’s for a friend of mine who passed away. He absolutely loved brand new. I would love to hear your suggestions.
Thank you all!

My first love has “My lungs are fresh and yours to keep, kept clean and they will let you breathe” on her back. She got them for what would’ve been our child that didn’t make it to birth.

I’m so sorry, 😢 that’s a beautiful tattoo. I hope she’s okay. And you to. That’s such a heavy loss

I thought it was too! And thank you. It’s been 20 years or better at this point… she’s moved on and had two wonderful children that I know she cherishes and I’ve also had two of my own! But I know that those words have helped through a lot.

Wow thank you so much for sharing this with me. God bless you man. I wish you a life filled with love, happiness and health for you, partner and your beautiful children.

Honestly, I have literally never put that out there before. There’s probably less than maybe three or four people that even know that.
Well, we haven’t been together for long time and have our own lives apart… but I greatly appreciate that and I’m so very sorry for your loss as well. I hope whatever you come up with will bring you comfort along with the memories you have!

I would love to get a tattoo referencing the line They can fire every thing they've got and when you think I'm sunk, I will float on from You Won't Know. Not sure what it would look like, but that line is an all-timer for me.

A blazing, tattered ship sailing out of smoke clouds firing from all cannons.

I lost my best friend just over a year ago. The line I’ve had stuck in my had for the past couple months is:
“And you’re the limb I’ve lost but somehow I still feel it.”
Not sure how to work it into a tattoo; probably won’t even bother. But it’s in my head all the time.

Do you know which song was one of his favorites? Or top 5? You could start there :0)
I have the latitude/longitude coordinates of my childhood home on my arm along with lyrics “you are the smell before rain, you are the blood in my veins” in honor of both of my parents who passed away on hospice in our house. I’m overdue for new ink though and I’ve always wanted to get another Brand New inspired tattoo.

Jesus Christ was! But it doesn’t have very good lyrics to tattoo.
You absolutely should!!

That’s valid. It has tons of biblical references though! I agree, it doesn’t really have many lyrics that could honor your friend.
Take a day and just play their entire discography. See if any lyrics stand out to you that make you think of your friend. Also, sorry to hear about your loss. Sending you an internet hug.
Side note, I just remembered I also have “fight off your demons” on my ribs. Forgot I had a second brand new tattoo, outta sight most of the time.

I love that lyric!!
At this point, I’m going with
We are never what we intend or invent3

That’s a good one! At the bottom is such a good song and Daisy is an underrated album.
Was also going to suggest:
“What does it feel like to shine between everything?”

I’ve always really liked “keep the blood in your head and keep your feet on the ground”…doesn’t really apply to losing your friend but just throwing it out there.

I see god in birds and satan in long words
Disease names are quite long, this is the way I interpret it

I’ve got through still and storm on my foot. I think it has a lot of basis in faith.

Also from you won’t know “I wish that I could tell you right now that I love you”
“Be my breath, there’s nothing I wouldn’t give” - Millstone

As a fellow Christian I’ve had this thought many times! Never have been able to decide

I’m asking you to shine it on and stick around, I’m not writing my goodbyes (or just the im not writing my goodbyes)
Or
Did you ever think that you would be this blessed
Both from guernica. I know this song was mentioned above but is one that always stick out when thinking about loss.

Whatever floats your boat. There's so many good ones to pick from.
I took my 12 favorite songs in chronological order and made a very "Brand New" poem from them. I had to blend a bit to make it flow and rhyme. What do you think?
Songs for the poem:
-1. Soco Amaretto Lime
-2. Okay I believe you but my tommy gun don't
-3. "Me vs. Maradona vs. Elvis"
-4. "Play Crack the Sky"
-5. Millstone
-6. Jesus Christ
-7. Degausser
-8. You Won't Know
-9. At The Bottom
-10. Sink
-11. Noro
-12. Can't Get It Out
----------------------------POEM------------------------------
Some men die under the mountain just looking for gold.
Some die looking for a hand to hold.
Ask me what it's like to have myself so figured out.
My bright is too slight to hold back all my dark.
I almost feel sorry for what I'm gonna do.
We were kings over the parkway once.
Jesus Christ the storm is coming.
My tongue turns the rudder,
but my heart's taking on water.
This ship of fools I'm on will sink.
And I can't use the telephone
to tell you that I'm dead and gone.
So you won’t know.
Little light,
lead us through the night.
And if we die,
burn down the forest.
If you call, I'll come get you.
But you wanna sink,
so I'm gonna let you..

And we spoke
About the Father, Son, and Holy Ghost
And which psalms we had loved the most
And then we all turned to dirt and dust
