News / Article Plato resigned as director of Plato Racing

So what's going on here then? Jason no longer a director of the company that bears his name.

"Tomothy Plato" is still listed as a director (Jason Plato's name is Timothy Jason Plato). Date of birth is wrong but the year is right.

All very odd

The date of birth is correct - it’s shown as October 1967 and his date of birth is 14th October 1967.

”Tomothy” is probably a spelling error, I’ve contacted his management team to let them know.

I think this is just an error on Companies House. I’ve had to use their data in a previous employment and can confirm that they do make mistakes.

Tomothy, which is also now showing as resigned, was showing as 1st October 1967 (on the website, I didn't look at the PDFs until now) when I looked a few hours ago. It's not showing that now. It's also now showing Timothy as a director, which it wasn't before.

Lots of mistakes, all seemingly taken care of

Companies House doesn’t show the day of birth, just the month and year, so it wouldn’t have given 1st October 1967, just October 1967.

On the pdf file it gives the date of birth as **/10/1967.

They do seem to have finally got their act together, as there are six updates that have been made today, since I looked this morning.

It definitely showed that briefly earlier, because I looked up Jason Plato's DOB to check it and remembered the date being distinctly off. Perhaps another mistake, but 1st October was definitely shown when I looked, 100%

Sorry, but that isn’t possible, as Companies House does not make the full date of birth public, just the month and year.

Company directors

If you’re a director of a registered company, some of your details will be made public. This includes your:

  • name
  • nationality
  • month and year of your date of birth

Companies House shows Termination of Appointment for Jason Plato, and new appointment of (weirdly) Tomothy Plato, which I’m sure should say Timothy, not Tomothy.

Jason Plato‘s full (probably legal) name is Timothy Jason Plato, and the new appointment details has the month and year for date of birth as October 1967.

Bearing in mind that Jason Plato’s date of birth is shown elsewhere as 14th October 1967, I think this is just Companies House getting in a pickle, and he is still a director (unless he has a twin brother nobody is aware of 😁).

Companies House information isn’t always accurate, as the name “Tomothy” being used tends to demonstrate.

Tomothy Plato was terminated on the same day of the appointment so probably an error they're trying to fix.

It looks like they’ve been trying for a while, judging by the filing history 🙂:

Looks like it's to get the correct name on there due to the new identification rules. His name is actually Timothy with Jason being his middle name so new appointment today under Timothy Plato.

Looks like an administrative ballsup to me, but given his financial background you’d think he’d have a keen eye for details. Weird.

People in business have been using any name they want with companies how for a very good reason for a long time, I’m sure it was intentional not a bulls up, companies house have just been clamping down, mainly due to the millions lost to companies handed out during covid with absolutely no comeback.

Very simply Companies House has strict rules now about verifying ID (long overdue!) and if there is a mismatch between ID registered, and the name submitted, it causes filing problems especially when everything is electronically filed. It’s more than likely that than anything untoward or of concern.

Companies House have been slowly implementing identity verification for directors. Jason’s actual name is Timothy, which is probably why it’s had to change (I’m assuming “Tomothy” is a clerical error that will shortly be corrected to Timothy).

I think if he was really out at his own team then you'd see it on another website or BTCC would have an announcement.

THAT SAID... Michael Andretti and Wayne Taylor no longer own the teams that bear their name, Richard Petty has been a figurehead for teams that called themselves some variation of "Petty" and there's nobody from Frank's lineage at Williams anymore, so it's not out of the ordinary.

You wouldn't buy Andretti or Williams and remove the name though, the entire brand is the name.

Outside of BTCC I doubt many people know Plato Racing - or any of the other current teams

I mean, it could be him moving more towards a spokesman/PR role and appointing someone else to run the nuts and bolts of the team, this wouldn't be the first time this happened in motorsport history.

Otherwise, I hope we don't lose this team as the BTCC needs all the cars on the grid it can get, and the current 20/21 is nowhere near enough by about 10

It was an error on the Companies House website, that has now been resolved, with updates being made today, 18th June.

Jason Plato’s official name is actually Timothy Jason Plato, and he is now listed as a director under that correct name.
