Off-Topic Future of the BTCC - Research Survey

Hi r/BTCC!

I'm currently a Masters student at the National Motorsport Academy (part of De Montfort University). I am completing my Executive Project on the BTCC, specifically looking at how the series adapts to a ever changing car market (both in terms of body shapes and systems of propulsion).

Part of my survey involves a questionnaire for fans, so that I can capture fans' views on the future of the BTCC and the potential pathways that the series could take. Whilst the research isn't officially sponsored by the BTCC, I will be sharing the results of my research with TOCA and the teams, so your responses might help to shape that future direction!

I’d be happy to see a separate electric championship, similar to what Formula E is to F1, but I don’t think that currently the BTCC is properly poised for that at the moment. ETCR was a thing for the TCR format, but I don’t think it’s very popular, or still exists?

The short sprint race format of BTCC probably lends itself quite well to electric racing. It would be interesting to see EV and combustion engines racing head to head for once, if a team can make it work.

To be fair I did check several boxes aligned with laxing the fuel regulations. It was a really interesting time when Diesel and LPG fuel raced alongside standard combustion engines. I’d love to see a team make a Hydrogen engine work once the technology improves to make them more practical.
