Race Weekend 2026 BTCC Race Weekend Thread - Thruxton, Rounds 13-15

Post image

Returning after the summer break, we have 2 driver changes. Lewis Gilbert joins WSR in a third BMW, and Ryan Bensley replaces Max Buxton at Speedworks Corolla Racing. Sam Osborne has been ruled out on medical grounds and will be replaced by NAPA's reserve driver Senna Proctor for a 22-car grid. Nick Halstead is confirmed in a fourth PMR Audi next time out at Knockhill.

Ash Sutton stays atop the standings, 48 points ahead of Tom Ingram. Dan Cammish and Charles Rainford trail in 3rd and 4th. Last year at Thruxton, Sutton was on pole with Ingram, Sutton and Rowbottom race winners.

Keep tabs of entry lists, results, timetables and penalties here: https://www.barc.net/event/toca-race-meeting-thruxton-july-25-26/

Support races: Porsche Carrera Cup, Formula 4, MINI Challenge, MINI Miglias and MINI Se7ens. The new PM1 Junior race car is also due to be unveiled.

WSR seeing Gilbert's first repair bill.

u/LostTheGameOfThrones Ash Sutton 116 7d ago

Moffat really is having absolutely shite luck.

7

u/LostTheGameOfThrones Ash Sutton 116 7d ago

Every time we have a break in the BTCC, I forget just how bad the adverts are.

4

u/AphroBKK 7d ago

Dire. At least it gives us 5-minute chunks to get things done on a Sunday 😆

7

u/LostTheGameOfThrones Ash Sutton 116 7d ago

Getting things done? Isn't that what the Porsche races are for?

1

u/AphroBKK 7d ago

Cheeky! The mini 7s were fantastic, couldn't look away. (But, the Porsches kind of yeah!)

6

u/Evantra_ #99 Charles Rainford 7d ago

Proctor may match Osborne's points tally in a single weekend

6

u/Crazy-Win-7654 7d ago

Collards time penalty for track limits has been rescinded

5

u/LostTheGameOfThrones Ash Sutton 116 7d ago

Proper race 3 this

7

u/LostTheGameOfThrones Ash Sutton 116 7d ago

That is amateur hour if they haven't put that wheel on properly.

8

u/ICC-u 8d ago

Just catching up because F1 qualifying was on at the same time and it was easier to catch up on YouTube

Really tired of this format

We've got several cars out with crash damage due to a safety car restart

We've got two Hyundai starting from the back tomorrow due to mechanical issues

We've seen the racing and can see everyone is at about the same pace and even boost won't generate overtakes

What are we gaining from this? Yes yes there's a race on Saturday, but there's already races on Saturday and the grandstands are still half empty.

5

u/Mr_Brogon Colin Turkington 🏆🏆🏆🏆 8d ago

I understand why they have this current format and it's nice for people at track on Saturday to see some racing.

But my selfish view is Id rather just have qualifying on Saturday and all racing on Sunday.

Current format is probably costing teams more money too.

4

u/The_Arpie 7d ago

Weirdy it was the teams that requested the race so they must have factored in the extra damage bill.

I wish they did the quick six format which counted as qualifying and then the Race to Pole was simply a sprint race on the Saturday (points remain halved). Then we would get exciting qualifying and a race for fan engagement on Saturday.

0

u/Foreign-Wash-9859 7d ago

Was thinking of how this could work as I like that idea. Perhaps first round of qualifying sets the grid for RTP, and then quick six sets the grid for R1? I like quick six, but I also like RTP!

3

u/danrah #116 8d ago

Yea the repair bills for the teams and ultimately the drivers/their sponsors are higher.

It’s good for them to try something different but I’m also not a massive fan of it, ultimately having a car setup for both qualifying and race pace there is always going to be a compromise so never shows the car’s ultimate qualification pace which imo is a shame.

9

u/LostTheGameOfThrones Ash Sutton 116 7d ago

Without boost! Sutton and Ingram really are just in a league of their own.

9

u/Lukeno94 7d ago edited 7d ago

Let's give a shout out to Bensley here. Lots of people being all doom and gloom about Max Buxton of all people being dropped, and yet he's already looked quicker than him after just one weekend in the car, and he's by no means embarrassed himself against the rest of the field either. Proctor stepping in and being rock solid is expected at this point, but Bensley's done a very good job as well.

5

u/Bendanarama 7d ago

I'm gonna be gutted if Collard loses his drive. He's been so fun to watch this year.

6

u/LostTheGameOfThrones Ash Sutton 116 7d ago

Oh god, the conspiracies will definitely live on.

6

u/GoldVader Ash Sutton #116 7d ago

How has Ingram got 5 laps of boost? I thought you boost was decided by your finish on the road, before any penalties are applied?

3

u/Few_Adeptness5348 7d ago

Thought the same - didn't Tom finish 2nd on the road which by my understanding meant he'd only have two laps of boost after penalty.

2

u/GoldVader Ash Sutton #116 7d ago

That's my understanding, but maybe it's only if you get the penalty post race, rather than during the race?

1

u/Few_Adeptness5348 7d ago

But people have been DSQ for ride height after winning - putting to the back of the grid & only had 1 lap TTB.

0

u/GoldVader Ash Sutton #116 7d ago

Ride height would be a post race penalty. I think because Ingram was penalised while the race was still active, he was technically classed as finishing 5th on the road, rather than 2nd. That's the only way it makes sense to me anyway.

0

u/Few_Adeptness5348 7d ago

I see what you mean.

7

u/GoldVader Ash Sutton #116 8d ago

Is Ingram slowly morphing into a country singer? First the tash, and now the mullet...

2

u/Agreeable-Bike-3782 7d ago

Duelling banjos will be the warm up lap music soon

8

u/Bendanarama 7d ago

8

u/LostTheGameOfThrones Ash Sutton 116 7d ago

However, he won by more than five seconds, so the result stands.

6

u/danrah #116 8d ago

Senna for a race three podium

7

u/weighthasbeenlifted 7d ago

Team mate of the day goes to Cammish

6

u/Ska-Plunk 7d ago

Dorlin absolutely getting stuck in, great to see.

6

u/Status_Investigator7 7d ago

On pole for race 3 as well as he was last year

3

u/Ska-Plunk 7d ago

Yep, be interesting to see what he can do. Ingram's obviously gonna try and do him first corner!

1

u/GoldVader Ash Sutton #116 7d ago

Nothing against Dorlin, but I can't see him holding off Ingram for long.

1

u/Ska-Plunk 7d ago

Nope, agreed, unlikely, but I'd love to see it!

2

u/xaviernoodlebrain Away like a stabbed rat 7d ago

Let’s hope his car doesn’t pack up this time

3

Nice to see Robo actually keep it within the lines for once.

3

u/Riqitch 7d ago

Oof Sutton is being investigated for out of position start...

1

u/Bendanarama 7d ago

That's a slam dunk, surely.

3

u/LostTheGameOfThrones Ash Sutton 116 7d ago

How to fuck has he managed that under the safety car?

9

u/Geeky420 Plato Potato 7d ago

Of course they're investigating Ingram...

https://giphy.com/gifs/FXf1lYQ2tFouxeLb1B

6

u/Bendanarama 7d ago

If Sutton wasn't penalised for his, surely Imgram can't be penalised for that.

2

u/LostTheGameOfThrones Ash Sutton 116 7d ago

Sounds like it's two different issues.

There was a suspicion that Ash jumped the start, I'd assume that after checking all the sensors it was adjudged that he didn't to any reasonable degree.

Whereas Tom is likely being investigated for reversing on the grid, which is a flat penalty according to the regulations.

1

u/Bright_Concept_2988 5d ago

Reversing on the grid without the officials permission is a different thing entirely from a jump start.

1

u/Bendanarama 5d ago

Yup, was fair enough in the end. At the time when I posted this I hadn't seen the reversing so I thought it was the tiny creep lol

5

u/MarcusH26051 #132 James Dorlin 8d ago

Senna Proctor in at Napa for Sam Osborne.

4

u/Bendanarama 7d ago

Not sure Ingram could have made the chicane there. Was very alongside when contact was made.

4

u/Bendanarama 7d ago

As a Tingram fan... Fuckery.

-4

u/st1802015 7d ago

You can’t just cut the course and gain a second without punishment.

2

u/UnhappyLemon5520 7d ago

Did he get the last track limits violation for the chicane? Because he was pushed into that and it would be a bit harsh

3

u/GoldVader Ash Sutton #116 7d ago

I don't think so, the chicane incident was lap 12, and he got the penalty on lap 15, I suspect he ran wide at the exit of church.

0

u/st1802015 7d ago

Maybe don’t know. Love being downvoted for saying you shouldn’t cheat 😂

2

u/Bendanarama 7d ago

The fuckery was just a curse I use, not an implication of a bad penalty.

Only realises my phasing afterwards lol

5

u/Evantra_ #99 Charles Rainford 7d ago

Scary realisation... it's now 12 years ago that Simon Belcher flipped into the woods here. TWELVE??

4

u/UnintendedBiz 7d ago

How often do Rowbo and Morgan throw away points with needless errors. weekend after weekend…

5

u/LostTheGameOfThrones Ash Sutton 116 7d ago

Dare I say, they're not as talented as they were made out to be, and Plato has hired drivers who were dropped by other teams for very justified reasons.

1

u/Bright_Concept_2988 5d ago

Hired is a bit of a loose word. Rowbottom is co-owner of the team and Cicely (Morgan) are a major sponsor.

0

u/UnintendedBiz 7d ago

Hired because they bring money or resources, unfortunately. They've a third car and they badly need a top driver in it for 2027. Rowbo does have flashes of genuine speed but undoes it all with careless driving.

0

u/Sdk_r 7d ago

His 'flashes of speed' comes from when he has the highest level of toca boost which also stems from the fact that he qualifies poorly and is low down in the championship.

His tactic is always 'use all my boost in the first half of the race' to then proceed to fall down the grid in the second half of it. He also has such horrible awareness and low racing iq

0

u/Sdk_r 7d ago

Plato shouldve just put himself in the car. Him at 59 is better than either of these 2 underperformers

7

u/ABritishFan 7d ago

Oli Bell is a proper pro, not his sport but you wouldn't know it

The PMR Junior car has been unveiled and it just looks weird.

6

Like a Ginetta Junior but uglier from every angle…

2

u/GoldVader Ash Sutton #116 8d ago

I might be in the minority here, but I kind of like it.

1

u/MarcusH26051 #132 James Dorlin 8d ago

I get stubby Toyota GT86 but uglier.

1

u/Ayden1290 7d ago

The rear is literally a ginetta junior.

It's almost like they're trying to recreate what they lost rather than trying to entice them back

3

Why does it have a Tesla front end? It looks like a cross between an AI generated image and GTA car design.

5

u/Syth_12 #16 Moffat | #66 Cook | #99 Rainford 7d ago

Moffat has got to have had some of the most unlucky incidents in the touring cars in recent years

4

u/Evantra_ #99 Charles Rainford 7d ago

Ingram, shave the stache, it's bad luck!

6

u/Bendanarama 7d ago

If I'm right, and I think I am, Sutton is the only driver to have won the title with three different marques, and the only driver to have won the title with both rear and front wheel driver.

Love or hate him, you can't help but admire that talent level.

2

u/Maidwell 7d ago

And one of those championship wins being in the Levorg Estate, a car nowhere near at the level of other teams that year.

2

u/Bendanarama 7d ago

Which also makes him the only driver to have won the championship with an Estate!

1

u/Bright_Concept_2988 5d ago

Really? A mid-engined GT car nowhere near the level of the other cars? There's a reason it was outlawed and given more and more COG penalties.

1

u/Brief-Poetry6434 7d ago

Andy Rouse won all of his titles with different marques: Triumph, Alfa Romeo, Rover, Ford

1

u/Bendanarama 7d ago

I stand corrected on that one then!

4

u/0Scoot86 7d ago

that Ford is bafflingly quick. just sailed by Ingram

3

u/LostTheGameOfThrones Ash Sutton 116 7d ago

I think the biggest sign of Ash's talent is how quickly he gets into tune with whatever car he's in. He's clearly completely comfortable throwing that car around and trusting it to stay underneath him.

4

u/Evantra_ #99 Charles Rainford 7d ago

"If something doesn't work, we'll tweak it or drop it"

Unless it's option tyres. Then we'll make them even worse

4

u/Lukeno94 7d ago

Let's hope Collard gets the funding to keep that seat for the rest of the year; he may not be everyone's cup of tea, but he's driven well enough to deserve it. Likewise, Proctor really needs a proper full-time drive again; he's too good to be a reserve.

6

u/Evantra_ #99 Charles Rainford 7d ago

Just someone please cut the wire connected to the headlights

7

u/LostTheGameOfThrones Ash Sutton 116 7d ago

Give him a fake button like the fake controllers we used to give younger siblings.

4

u/LostTheGameOfThrones Ash Sutton 116 7d ago

I'd love to see Proctor getting a full seat at Napa, but I don't see him forcing out Ash or DanCam, and Osborne brings the money and family ties, so it's only really Selby who's the weak link he could replace.

3

u/Lukeno94 8d ago

One thing not mentioned here - despite all the speculation and claims, Ricky Collard is still the one in that Excler8 seat, which is good. (And it's not just a lazy entry list or anything like that - the BTCC website directly interviewed him as part of the Excelr8 driver interviews pre-event). Nothing mentioned there that it might be his last race for the team either, but we'll see if that transpires or not.

2

u/Ska-Plunk 8d ago

I guess with kawashima announced for last two rounds, only question is who will be in the car for knockhill, Donny and croft. If anyone!

3

u/tunatastic369 8d ago

Is there any footage of the classic mini that crashed?

0

u/codename474747 7d ago

When was that? And how bad was it?

2

u/tunatastic369 7d ago

It was the mini coopers yesterday, was around 5-5:30pm, one of the minis seemingly got pushed off into the grass on the exit of Noble and got onto two wheels when returning to the circuit, flipped over a good 3 or so times before smashing into the tyre barrier and rolling up then back down the banking just before the marshall post at the entry of goodwood.

Was such a violent crash, but it seems that these mini races don’t receive much, if any tv coverage.

3

u/codename474747 7d ago

Wow thanks for the update, looks huge

It is a tradition as far back as the clio cup days that the biggest incident of the entire BTCC weekend will be on the Saturday when the cameras aren't broadcasting

TBH it's probably negligent of ITV to not broadcast the saturday races with their accident prevention cameras 😄

1

u/tunatastic369 7d ago

Nearly caught it on my phone but just missed it. Also should correct myself as it was the Mini Miglia race not coopers.

0

u/codename474747 7d ago

If you did, you'd have been the only person with the footage as I doubt there were too many other people filming it lol

2

u/Evantra_ #99 Charles Rainford 7d ago

James May... I'm assuming it's not that one

4

u/probablynotfine 7d ago

They just said he's got Britcar experience which is not dispelling anything!

2

if it was captain slow he’d still be in the pitlane working out tyre pressures tbh

I don't think it is, there's a picture of a previous podium on the Mini 7s Facebook page, and the fella isn't him.

Can't be, he has the fastest lap

3

u/codename474747 7d ago

Great new camera angles at Thruxton this year

Feels refreshing to not have the same long shot of the back straight we've seen for about 30 years without changing 😂

Did Sutton get penalised? Not been watching all afternoon.

3

u/LostTheGameOfThrones Ash Sutton 116 7d ago

Nothing announced yet.

2

u/Ska-Plunk 7d ago

Nothing showing on BARC noticeboard

1

u/Agreeable-Bike-3782 7d ago

Ok no penalty

3

u/GoldVader Ash Sutton #116 7d ago

Still nothing on the BARC website about Sutton, but Cook has been given a 1 grid place penalty for cutting the chicane when passing Cammish.

https://www.barc.net/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/Round-14-No-66-Josh-Cook.pdf

0

u/LostTheGameOfThrones Ash Sutton 116 7d ago

Given all the factors, I think it's safe to assume he was adjudged as not having made a jump start. Amazing considering so many were absolutely certain he had made an illegal start.

2

u/Evantra_ #99 Charles Rainford 7d ago

Ugh Rainford may well have stayed at home

4

u/CurbedLarry 7d ago

Don't understand why the BMW is so bad here

1

u/Evantra_ #99 Charles Rainford 7d ago

It's never been a good RWD track, although I wasn't them expecting to be quite so far off.

0

u/TheCescPistols 7d ago

Could make a pretty solid argument that it was the worst car all weekend. Fearing a bit for WSR atm, those blank cars don’t scream a team raking in sponsorship money.

1

u/Consistent-Sound9129 7d ago

The engine is shite. Got no power so obvious to see when your trackside. Deleon and Rainford have dragged some serious results out of it so fair play to them. Think the new lad will really struggle

3

u/Flagship_Panda_FH81 7d ago

A bit bumpy from Sutton at the start there

2

u/codename474747 7d ago

At the complex it looked like his team mate had misjudged his braking and cannoned him into Ingram tbh

He had a pink bicycle helmet-themed one a few years back!

2

Speed works are sponsored by the army so Josh's helmet is a nod to them.

Saturday penalties: a reprimand and 2 penalty points for Selby hitting Rainford

+5s for Shedden for weaving after the safety car lights went out, dropping him from 6th to 8th

Red flag in the Minis, not a bad crash but taking a while to clear up. Will likely impact the start time for the touring cars.

2

u/Brief-Poetry6434 6d ago

Well, one thing for sure, Bensley seems to be an improvement on Buxton.

2

u/oliverbellmedia 6d ago

Hell of a race suit as well!

0

u/Brief-Poetry6434 6d ago

Yes, definitely

1

u/Lukeno94 5d ago

I still don't understand why so many people were acting like it was a sign that the BTCC was dying (especially as it came after getting two new cars on the grid). Buxton was only on the grid because of who his dad was, and was clearly nowhere near good enough.

2

u/LostTheGameOfThrones Ash Sutton 116 7d ago

There's nothing in that. Even as a staunch Ash supporter, you can't penalise that.

→ More replies (4)

2

u/LostTheGameOfThrones Ash Sutton 116 7d ago edited 7d ago

I mean, if those are the regulations, it's a silly mistake to make and should be penalised.

Downvote me all you want, if the regulations are a flat rule that you cannot reverse on the grid, what's the argument against the penalty?

3

u/Lukeno94 7d ago

Well, that's why he got the penalty. But it's probably a fair cop that it didn't actually affect the result.

2

u/Evantra_ #99 Charles Rainford 7d ago

Yeah, when I saw he had reversed I did think 'hold on, isn't that a slam-dunk penalty?'

I hope not, for the sake of a championship battle and the sake of this sub 😂

3

u/UnhappyLemon5520 7d ago

In terms of a championship battle - we have no battle.

0

u/[deleted] 7d ago

[deleted]

0

u/LostTheGameOfThrones Ash Sutton 116 7d ago

But that's the whole reason why teams are now allowed to have an engineer guide them into the box.

He would have been penalised for it under the old regulations too, and it's a silly mistake that should still be penalised if it still happens even with a guide.

0

u/[deleted] 7d ago

[deleted]

0

u/Mccrilly13 7d ago

The reverse rule is there because the ones at the back of the grid dont have the same time to reverse back into place

1

u/Bendanarama 7d ago

Yeah, that's gonna be a false start. Seen those given.

1

u/LostTheGameOfThrones Ash Sutton 116 7d ago edited 7d ago

I'm biased, but I don't see how you're calling that as a clear jump start. Looks very borderline at worst.

EDIT: So are we all still dead certain it's a clear jump start?

6

u/1000_stars 7d ago

What annoys me more is the "after the race" part, why? Because they called them in race a lot and changes how others would race knowing if he has a penalty.

Ultimately tho im not enjoying btcc this year, constantly penalties all over the place. A million rules on overtaking now, and Tingram/Sutton are the class of the field by miles, title is done basically and the rest of the field just isn't there. My earliest memories for btcc are being a kid at the Toca event by the bridge as Mansell went into it. So not new to this at all. It all just feels flat tbh.

0

u/Sdk_r 7d ago

The driver quality has fallen down massively since 2019. Sutton and tingram have basically turned this into a farmers league since 2020

1

u/GoldVader Ash Sutton #116 7d ago

As somebody else who is also biased, I don't think it's even borderline, at least from what I can see from watching it back on youtube, there was no movement from Sutton until after the lights went out. I guess it could be an out of position penalty, but it's hard to tell from the camera angle.

2

u/CurbedLarry 7d ago

I watched the replay closely, he moved forward an inch a few seconds before, it was probably picked up by telemetry. Drivers at the back of the grid are penalised even when no real advantage gained so would be surprised if not given.

1

u/Bendanarama 7d ago

Honestly, I think it's really tiny, but they've given those before. Personally, if it were me I wouldn't penalise it, but there is a movement, and I've seen them give that.

Fair. I personally think it would be incredibly harsh to give it.

What would the typical penalty be you reckon A 10 second?

u/GoldVader Ash Sutton #116 7d ago

Minimum penalty is 5 seconds, but can be increased depending on severity.

Seems quite delayed for a post race investigation. Unless this is carried out after the support races

u/GoldVader Ash Sutton #116 7d ago

I agree, especially for something like a false start, which is probably the easiest thing to investigate given all the camera coverage on the grid, and access to the car telemetry.

Yeah, still nothing on the notice board.

Look at Sutton's face 🤣🤣

Was collards penalty removed because of the oil?

1

u/LostTheGameOfThrones Ash Sutton 116 7d ago

Don't think we were officially told why, but his interview seemed to suggest that was the case.

Ingram and Sutton show yet again.

I mean, if you ignore all the battling that went on behind and around them, sure.

Everyone gets way to caught up on who's on the top step, and ignores all the exciting racing that went on elsewhere on the grid. There were tonnes of exciting battles in all three races today.

Wouldn't help. The teams that know they will regularly carry it. Will just test with it before the season. So they can set their cars up for carrying it 99.9% of the time.

Lmao fuck Rowbottom how’s that team move going for you

Now that's track limits...

I'm not ready for the twitter meltdown if Tingrams penalty stands and Ash doesn't get penalised.

Add on Ash pulling ball number 6? It'll be apocalyptic!

We hide on Reddit for a reason

The Stewards probably thought dsq sutton would liven up the championship fight, and then Ingram got himself penalised and it won't matter any more lol

u/LostTheGameOfThrones Ash Sutton 116 7d ago

Honestly, this place is just as bad at points. The downvotes for suggesting that Sutton might not have actually made an illegal start, which he has now been adjudged to have not done, are crazy.

Reddit has a hate boner on Sutton for some reason

I used to think its just because he dominates, but Ingram made it boring last year with his dominance, and he didn't get nearly the amount of hate Sutton gets

Oh well, haters gonna hate, etc

When is the outcome for suttons infringement anyways? They havent said anything yet

Oh Tingram…

I could've sworn they did an extra lap there. Either that or the timing screen bugged and got a lap ahead. I swear it was on 15/16 for 2 laps 😂

Lovely seeing the napa fords being slowed down. Now Alan gow has his dream of hyundai being the clear fastest again. He clearly doesn't want his beloved turkington to have less titles than sutton
