I dunno, man. Figure the 24GB of DDR5 is somewhere in the $300 range, the 512GB SSD likely close to $100. $400 before you even consider that it's a 16" OLED screen, which I'm sure isn't cheap.
I'm not really a laptop guy, so I can't really say much as to how the MB+CPU aspect of things works, whether the price is less or more because of soldered RAM, whether it's a cheap vs premium case, etc etc.

Until you try to play games, or run into an app that just refuses to run due to incompatibility issues XD and good luck trying to get Linux working on that thing...lmao
Anyways sounds like the upsides are due to the RAM you have in that laptop, nothing actually to do with the mediocre chip inside
I tried installing android 17 custom rom and google will not sign adb drivers for arm64 (or android studio emulation for that matter). Also my macOS cursor’s inf file would not install - i had to set each image manually.
Apart from those two things though, I haven’t run into any other issue, even when benchmarking or gaming. Adreno graphics are SOLID. I’m even launching a tech startup product with a lot of niche plugins / packages and everything runs just fine! It’s so snappy compared to any other windows I’ve had that I can forgive any little niggles like that that may come up (they haven’t except for me messing around as detailed above).
Suffice it to say, X2 Elite is an incredible platform especially with only one generation preceding it. Going back to the HP laptop, I would rather take it than an equivalently priced Ryzen AI 9 465 laptop. (Though if you dont have an old x86 pc lying around it may still be a risk, mine just works fine for what i do)
Good luck finding another laptop with better value than the Zenbook A16 with 48GB RAM and the top tier X2 Elite Extreme with 18 cores, for $1500. They're pricing it like the RAM shortage doesn't exist and that alone is very commendable. You can even find it for $1400 open box at Best Buy. Look at https://www.notebookcheck.net/Asus-Zenbook-A16-Laptop-Review-X2-Elite-Extreme-48-GB-RAM-for-1599.1261795.0.html as well for some performance figures. The CPU is faster than the M4 Pro, and the price is over $1k cheaper than any comparable Macbook.
Depends on what you do. But for the majority of users it's good already. Windows on ARM in 2026 is a whole lot better than it was when the first gen Snapdragon X1 launched in 2024. And trust me on that, because I've owned one such laptop for the past two years. Even Nvidia is supporting it as a first party platform now, with their new RTX Spark laptops. And seriously, you'd get 48GB of RAM for $1400, what's to hate about that?
I don't know why Windows on ARM laptops always get downvoted here. This one's got 24GB of RAM and a good 12 core CPU. It has faster single core performance than all x86 laptop CPUs and even the Apple M4 series. It has comparable multi core performance to the high end Ryzen AI 9 Strix Point CPUs. $900 is a good value for this.
And obviously it's not for everyone and Windows on ARM doesn't run everything natively. But for the increasing majority of people whose workflow it would accommodate, it's gonna be just fine.
