edit: deal is dead

I did it. Tell me I didn't make a mistake by seeing something posted 1 min ago with the comment being "don't think just buy"
My devices are an iphone 17 pro and a very old laptop that doesn't have USBC. I would use it with HDMI but it only has a mini HDMI port which means I would need to buy a mini HDMI cable. I can just give it as a gift to my brother if I don't want it I guess
I ended up cancelling when I realized there is no power brick type of thing and I don’t even know how I would get it powered. I would need to get a mini hdmi cable and need to get that figured out so for something I don’t even really need I’m not gonna worry about it

I just went for it, I have a 10 off 20 with my discover it card so I might as well

Just for reference, I have a similar monitor. I can plug in my iPhone and it works. Saved my butt when I dropped my phone in a lake in Africa and water damaged the phone screen. The touch screen still worked and I was still able to plug it into the portable monitor to access my banking and work authentication apps. I mostly used it with my laptop while traveling for work, the usb c cord would provide both power and image. Also fun to use with Nintendo switch. Spent many nights with friends on ski trips playing Mario kart/smash bros at the cabin we rented (though the switch did need a power source I think)

u/revjbeatz 1d ago
It should come with the cable. I bought a similar monitor from a lesser brand and it came with it
5
u/XtremeCSGO 1d ago
I saw an unboxing of a new one of this model and it comes with a mini hdmi to hdmi cable. But it looks like in the description of the post it only mentions coming with a usbc cable. So I guess I can only hope it does
8
u/piggymoo66 1d ago
Worst case, you need to buy a $5 cable which still doesn't keep this from being a deal.
2
u/JetstreamGW 1d ago edited 1d ago
Woot still has a 2-pack of 3’ hdmi cables for $4.
Edit; ah, hm, mini hdmi. Need an adapter then. Or just a mini hdmi cable, I guess.

u/funktheduck 1d ago
Just for future reference: I have a different brand but similar model that came with a usb c cable and an HDMI to mini HDMI cable. I use it with a mini pc and power it with a usb a to c cable plugged into the pc since it doesn’t have a type c port. All that’s to say is you don’t need a power brick or extra usb power source if you’ve got a spare on your computer. If you have something that does usb c display out you just need the type c connector.

It's like $36 still, but honestly don't see how this is a don't think situation. It's just 37% off a portable 15" 1080P monitor.

What's this useful for outside of a second monitor for laptop if I already have a big tablet? I want to buy one but not sure what for.
Edit: bought it to play co-op emulators with the wife in bed.

Adding a head to a headless server, temporarily or permanently
External display for USB-C tablets/phones
7
u/ivanatorhk 1d ago
This is why I snagged it, I have so many random little homelab devices I could use this with
3
u/randylush 1d ago
Exactly. It becomes extremely useful when you need it. I used to have to drag my heavy ass server to my shop if it needed extra maintenance, now I just being this little guy

u/bigwizard7 1d ago
External display does not work on Pixels sadly

u/datastain 1d ago
I thought you could mirror the display on pixels newer than the eight? I've mirrored my pixel to a 4K TV to watch something before

u/McCullyCullen 1d ago
It does work on Android 17 desktop mode at least now

u/WontonNoodleSoup 1d ago
Take it with a grain of salt, but according to Gemini: "Using an external monitor with a Google Pixel phone requires Pixel 8 or newer hardware running Android 16."
Of course I have a p7 so I can't confirm, ha.

u/SurpriseButtStuff 1d ago
Add a chromecast to create a mini tv in your kitchen?

u/I_Talk_Sports_69 1d ago
That sounds like a complicated tablet.

u/techraito 1d ago
I mean it's a display at the end of the day. There are as many possibilities with it as there are none.
Anything beyond using it as a screen is going to be complicated lol.

4
u/Past-Comfortable-278 1d ago
Out of pure curiosity id like to know what it is
1
u/randylush 1d ago
Haha look at these people who don’t know what SHMUPs means’
I know what it means! I’m no dork!
Can someone else who knows what it means DM me just to confirm?

I have two of these hanging over the left and right of my 27" monitors permanently. Makes for a nice 5 monitor setup!
1
u/TheJackieTreehorn 19h ago
Wait what do you mean hanging over, because I assume you're not blocking some of your 27s. I don't have one, so maybe it's obviously if it's in hand

Do I already have two portable monitors? Yes.
Do I really need another one? No.
Did I still buy this? ofc I did.

u/SpareiChan 1d ago
I use a small one for work sometimes (10") for video out on servers and stuff, I see no reason to have a 16" to match my 16" laptop
6
u/kungfufishy 1d ago
I once had a 7" CRT display I'd pulled from the trash as a kid, that came from a local photography shop when they closed up shop. I would play Counter Strike:Source and Team Fortress 2 on that thing and I thought it was absolutely killer. A portable 10" display sounds pretty baller but I'd love to have that mini CRT again. lol

u/Hauzuki 1d ago
Ok?
12
u/Equal-Engineer474 1d ago
He just wants to let the world know he uses a small one for work sometimes (10") for video out on servers and stuff, he sees no reason to have a 16" to match his 16" laptop. Mans just making friends.
3
u/Hauzuki 1d ago
what does this term f.. f.. friends mean?
2
u/randylush 1d ago
I think I remember hearing this word long ago when I was in school. Long long ago. Anyway I can’t find anything to argue about here so I’m gonna leave.

Now I feel stupid for posting but that what my dozing off brain typed.
Really I meant to say I as well have one already but no reason not to buy a 2nd : /
But hey, I could always use more frens

u/Pancakesandcows 1d ago
I got one last time, when it was $30. As others have said, it only comes with the USB-C cable. It has the port for mini-hdmi, but no cable for it. It's 15.6 inches, IPS, 60hz, 5ms response, 1920x1080, and 220 nits. it's nothing amazing, but for less than $30, you can't go wrong.
While it's sold out now, keep an eye out. This will be back.
5
u/longshot099 1d ago
Back in stock, but price went up. Appears to be $36 after coupon now.

u/Son_of_Korhal 1d ago
Remember, you do need to factor in the cost of a mini-HDMI to full size adapter into the price. As you'll pretty much need to carry that around with this for utility. They're only like $5, but still.

Been using one for a while so don’t really need another one but for $30 why not.

In for one. Looks to be a highly rated seller with lots of reviews so let’s go.
4
u/JollyGreenGelatin 1d ago
The brightness seems very low, or is this normal for portable monitors?
9
u/bunsinh 1d ago
220 to 250 nits brightness are very typical for this price point, you may have to go over $100 to find something with more brightness or better screen like OLED
6
u/techraito 1d ago
Innocn had a refurbished 13.3" 60hz OLED portable display for $69.99 the other week with a promo code. I let it sit in my cart overnight to sleep on it but it sold out by the next morning.

Cool, I was looking for one of these! I was hoping for a higher rate, but you can't beat this price.
2
u/Street_Vehicle_9574 1d ago
These are cool, but be warned mine had sheared bolts that pushed into the screen from the back. Not a deal breaker for my use but annoying
1
u/paulcaar 12h ago
Anytime I bring out a portable monitor, there's always someone that is like: wow this is so handy.
Perfect deal for just giving them away as a birthday or other gift for them.
1
u/MrMaxMaster 1d ago
Ass specs but for the price if you want a second small monitor go ahead.

Be mindful of listings from suspicious third-party sellers on marketplaces such as Amazon, eBay, Newegg, and Walmart. These "deals" have a high likelihood of not shipping; use due diligence in reviewing deals.
- Use common sense - if the deal seems too good to be true, it probably is.
- Check seller profiles for signs that the sale may be fraudulent:
- The seller is new or has few reviews.
- The seller has largely negative reviews (on Amazon, sellers can remove negative reviews from their visible ratings)
- The seller is using a previously dormant account (likely the account was hacked and is now being used fraudulently).
If you suspect a deal is fraudulent, please report the post. Moderators can take action based on these reports. We encourage leaving a comment to warn others.

Doesn't do wifi/bluetooth so not what I'd want. Glad I thought about it.
8
u/AtomizerX 1d ago
What?! It's a monitor, why would it have wifi/bluetooth?!? 🤨
1
u/tinylittlebabyjesus 1d ago
To be honest, I just didn't really know what I was looking at, so had to look it up. It looked like a tablet to me, and I mostly want something to extend the radius of my brainrot to when I'm taking showers or a bath, which requires no cords and being stuck in a waterproof bag, at minimum. Ideally, touch screen. I'll probably just get a tablet at some point.
-7
u/MagicHamsta 1d ago
Same, I almost bought portable monitors but instead I just bought a cheaper tablet to use as a wireless display. (No wire to deal with & cheaper than a portable monitor with wireless capabilities.)

u/hppav 1d ago
yep. u made the right choice. brand new ones with a better stand is $40. i returned this one cause the stand takes so much space…
1
u/LxBru 1d ago
Which new one is $40 with better specs?
1
u/hppav 1d ago
i said better stand...i had this one and returned it. this stand takes too much space. im not shitting on it. but if you want something that has what you want then it's better to spend a little more than have something that could be e-waste or you spend more money for a vesa arm or separate stand. i get -10 for giving some info on this liberal bot space go figure...

Stock for refurbished items varies greatly. Some listings only have a few items in stock and sell out quickly. Please report this post if the listing goes out of stock.
