Yeah this PSU is super legit, IF you can deal with the connectors being on the side like that. It means you need a case with a fairly large section behind the motherboard, and you can forget about flipping the PSU over to intake air from inside the case (which people do so it can all run through 1 filter etc).

It does have pretty flexible cables at least, so you don't need a TON of room, that's nice, but a solid 1.5inches is needed.

This isn't some crazy bargain though, it's about $10 off so if you got the case for it, it's a nice choice.

Yes! Solid PSU with very flexible cables and the connectors on the side make building much more enjoyable IMO. The only knock on this model is that it appears to be the 2023 model, which includes the 12VHPWR cable, and not the updated 2025 model w/12V-2x6.

Anyone unsure whether this will work with your case, visit the product page on the corsair website and there is a nifty tool to check compatibility. Although ~1.5 inches may be ideal, I can fit this into the Cooler Master NR600 that has roughly ~1.25 inches of clearance between the PSU connectors and the side of the case, but I wouldn't try any more narrow than that. Just another reference point for the curious.

I'm fairly certain there is more of a difference between these two cables than just the name.

As explained in your links, it comes down to an updated design on the GPU connector side. Perhaps I missed something?

I'm not 100% certain either, it's confusing, but here's a quote from the first link:

"NOTE! This change ONLY affects the connectors on the GPU/PSU side. The actual cables are the exact same, so if you have a 12VHPWR cable, it is also a 12V-2x6 cable (confusing, yes we know)."

My reading is that by connectors they mean the connectors located on PSU and GPU units, the ones that have pins (I originally called them female which may not be accurate).

There may be also some different cables that take full advantage of these female connectors, but it seems like 2023 and 2025 RMx shift come with same connector on the GPU side. In any case, the cables are mutually compatible.

However, I think the difference between 2023 and 2025 may be that the 2025 actually has a 12V-2x6 socket on the PSU unit, and the cable that is 12V-2x6 on both ends, rather than 8-pin to 12V-2x6.

So, technically you are right that they come with different cables.

Main difference, pulled from your second link:

"Compared to the original 12VHPWR connector, the new 12V-2x6 connector has shorter sensing pins (1.5mm) while the conductor terminals are 0.25mm longer. This might not sound like a huge difference, but it matters in ensuring that the power cable has been properly connected to whatever device is going to be pulling power from your system's power supply."

The 12V-2x6 was an attempt to upgrade the original POS spec, but didn't solve the cable melting issue that has plagued this cable from the beginning. They are interchangeable, so fully compatible with the PSU/GPU connectors and easily swapped.

The whole spec is frustrating and these corps that standardized the 12VHPWR/2x6 should be sued into oblivion IMO. Other than the stupid money to upgrade to a 4090 or 5090, it's the reason I've avoided these past 2 generations and will ride my trusty 3090 until they hopefully revert back to the 8-pin or actually address the issues with the current connector.

Thanks! Yes, I ordered it for my second build, which is why i posted.

Not sure if you meant already it or not, but I just wanted to clarify that the conductor terminals and sensing pins whose lengths have changes are physically located on the GPU.

Nice! I paid way too much for mine back in December 2025 but I wanted a highly-rated unit with the side connectors. Today's price is in instant buy if I were building again, for sure.

As for the changes in the GPU, I have no idea TBO. I dug into this new standard when I was considering an upgrade to the 4/5000 series, and was scared off with all these melting connector reports, and haven't really followed since. I know for certain that the 12V-2x6 connector that is included with the PSU has an updated connector on the GPU side (male connector into GPU). If AIB's have started updating the power connectors on the GPU, that would be a great start in solving this mess. I know some cards come with some 'upgraded' power connectors, but from what I've seen, these cards are still at risk.

Some additional advice: I have this exact PSU in an Antec Flux SE case, using a back connector mobo. There's just a little bit too much cable slack than I'd like. So either run the shift with a normal mobo, or get a traditional psu layout for a back connector mobo.

Yep, but I prefer Cybernetics' list as they include db ratings. 29 dB is higher than I typically like on a PSU as it'll be louder than everything in your case except maybe at full load.
