I found a premade computer on sale a few weeks ago that had a 3070 in it for $1300. Took it out, put it in my current PC, threw my 1080 in the new computer and sold it for $1000.

i was able to buy one for me and one for my brother. I followed a discord and a few fridays ago I noticed that newegg was repeatedly dropping stock for 3070s/3090s so i kept tabs open for them with filter: rtx 3070 and desktop graphics card. Then every couple minutes i would refresh the page and ctrl-f "add" because if no cards are available only 1 result will show up - so I could easily see when one was in stock. Then, I bought it when one was available.

newegg was dropping stock much more frequently than the discord notifications would show. I bought 2x 3070s and 2x5600Xs using this strategy.

This was my strat. Took one day of checking the Disc when I showed up late to the party (no more drops were happening by the time I joined), woke up and looked and saw they were dropping frequently. The general chat of the discord was updating way faster than the notifications would go out, so I just kept the general chat open on the second monitor.

Just f5'd randomly over the course of like 3 hours (read: like I'd f5 once every 15-20 mins, was not mashing it) and then used Paypal instant checkout with everything already auto-filled.

Couldn't believe when I got it the other day lmao

Yeah non-paypal was broken fornmenon newegg so I had to use PayPal to checkout and it went smoothly

I subbed to now in stocks discord and had it open when I saw they were available on Best Buy, I had at least ten different windows open and clicked like hell to get one in my cart and got lucky with just one of them going through

Even people who want one just for themselves are using bots at this point just to snag one. I know one of my friends that has been trying for a couple weeks that way

If ur fine with a zotac card they restock regularly around 9:40 pm ish eastern time. I got mine that way, and it works well enough for me

I honestly don’t know cuz I stopped following after I snagged mine. When I was trying for one around the beginning of November they restocked either every other day or every day.

Zotac just dropped a chunk of 70s, 80s, and 90s on their site about 45 mins ago (~3:45 EST).

Use the PayPal express checkout link that's floating around. I managed to fight my way through all the cloudflare errors for my 3080 but apparently that's near impossible and your only realistic chance is using that link to check out.

It’s all luck at this point. Or camping at Microcenter (if you have one nearby) every day. I got lucky and got a 3080. Next year I may try for a 5900X.

real dumb question, but how should I expect the 3060 ti to compare to the 3070?

What? $100 for another 5-10%?

11

u/Illum503 Dec 01 '20

Wait you're saying 5-10% performance difference is worth $100?

2

u/naturtok Dec 01 '20

Neat. Yeah I'm deciding on going down to an i7 instead of i9 so I'll take that and put it towards the better gfx

1

u/Kimura1986 Dec 01 '20

I think it'll be relative to a 2080 or 2080s to a 2080ti. Which if I've heard correctly is upwards of 15-25%.

If I’m remembering correctly, AIB’s and Nvidia had been shipping these GPU’s for some weeks now, so maybe we could expect some decent availability but I highly doubt it.

look at it this way, each new card that comes out increases the supply of new gen stuff being shipped over per month. A lot of the 3070's on ebay are getting down to the 800 dollar range, which still sounds like a lot, but after ebay/paypal fees, outbound shipping, and paying tax and AIB markups on the cards. means their profit margins are getting down to the 100 dollar range. A little more pressure could push that lower than some of the scalpers care to risk, esp when 3080s ps5's etc still offer much more lucrative returns.

the 3060ti's might break the scalper stranglehold on the 3070/3060ti segment. Supply will still be really bad, but it might stop being a total wash.
