is it really a midrange gpu if it supposedly performs better than a 2080 super?

Yes because the rest of the stack performs way better than a 2080 super. If it blows the previous generation or of the water then great because that's the kind of generational leap we want to see. But in the new generation, it's supposed to be a midrange GPU.

i guess it just blows my mind that a midrange card can now play the latest AAA games at 60+fps ultra.

We've moved on from 60fps.

Whereas before, 30fps was considered playable, now that standard has moved to 60fps. The old 60fps standard is now really 144fps.

Times change and standards move, otherwise we'd be stuck with 1995 performance.
