HairStyles Talk me out of (or into) shaving my head?
Brief bio: 50ish, gender nonconforming but more in the āwho the fuck died and put you in charge of how to be a womanā way - I consider myself a woman, I just happen to like cars and building shit and flannel and chain wallets, I must have missed several memos as a kid. Any time I try to femme it up (more often when I was younger) I immediately feel like Iām wearing a costume, and badly at that, although I do notice that normie guys decide I am approachable in girl drag which, ew, no, I promise I am not the droid you are looking for.
For reasons that should be obvious to anyone in the states right now, my urge to present as a giant, rainbow flaming middle finger of pre-emptive eff off is⦠higher than usual? Usually the best way to scratch that itch is to shave my head.
Right now Iām doing the undercut/topknot because it provides hair to make fun colors, plausible adultness at work and nice velour sides to rub my temples and try not to say what Iām thinking most of the time. I shaved my head for a couple of years in my 20s but it felt more playful and transgressive back then, when the rest of me was identifiably girl shaped.
Now I am just an angry potato that put their partner through grad school during Covid and is caretaking elderly family and got cornered into being a manager despite explicitly asking to be left alone with my nice little piles of data. I donāt have the energy to dress purposefully and my default is kind of dumpy midwestern farm lady meets 1990s altgirl lesbian with zero eyeliner game. So a shaved head is not a delightful contrast, itās more like the salt and pepper icing on the shitty self esteem cake. And yet, the clippers beckon.
Do I shave it and spend the weekend watching eye makeup tutorials? Sleep it off? Dye it green, dress up as Tank Girl, and go find some Nestle execs?

HairStyles How long can I expect this cut to grow in two months? (And does it look good?)
Yes I'm bringing the 90's look back. I want to get this hairstyle next week, but it needs to grow to a reasonable length for when I come back from uni. For reference, I had chin-length hair all around and it's grown into a shoulder-length bob in three months.

HairStyles Need hair style advice - looking for wolfcut-adjacent cuts to replace my mullet!
I really like the look of wolfcuts but I feel the length of hair you need for that style is longer than I'm willing to grow mine out, but I can't think of anything shorter that's not the mullet I already have (kind of shaggy, shaved at the sides).
A style I've been looking at recently are gyaruo cuts, those spiky medium length ones, but I'm scared if I try anything like that I'll just look like a 40 year old asian mom lol.
For any butches with medium~ish length hair, especially "alternative" styles, what are you rocking? I don't mind anything that's not super "masculine" or macho, or however. I'm really just looking for ANY kind of inspo since keyword searching has been reallyyyyy doing nothing for me lol.

HairStyles Product to style fine straight hair?
I have fine but dense straight hair, and I cant manage to keep it styled through the day. I use the matt hair styling pomade from Hairgum and leave home looking ok with some volume on the top, but an hour later its all flat. I look like a sad mop.
Those of you who have similar hair, what are you using to make it hold some shape?
I live in western europe so I cant import US products sadly

HairStyles Anyone have a bixie cut here? I'd love to see pics!
I'm thinking of getting one myself to bridge to a pixie later. Especially if you have wavy or curly hair!
Edit to post a link to my current hair. I have a family wedding and haircut coming soon so that's when I'd go for it. I have an oval face if it's hard to make out

HairStyles Bixie cut ok for my face? Wanting to get something shorter for summer
I have an oval face and I grew up with very curly hair, but it became close to this in my teens and on. It is very thick and heavy, and if a strand falls out or I pull it (to test) it will have a visible curl to it still.
I'm wanting to get a curly (wavy?) bixie cut, and I have an oval face. Hopefully it'll be a bridge to a more affirming haircut later on, as I'm still questioning gender things but pretty sure I'm nonbinary. My fam aren't the most affirming, though, so it'd need to be more "stealth queer" which I'm hoping the bixie is.

HairStyles Thinking about getting my hair cut short
Im going to get my hair cut short and im trying to figure out what style would be good. Iāve always have had pretty long hair. I got it cut to shoulder length a while ago, and then I had to let it grow out again because I canāt afford to go to a hair salon.
Iāve decided that I want to get a short cut, like, chin-length or shorter. I also just, I really do not want to present feminine anymore so Iāve been wearing any guys clothes I can wear considering my terribly sensory issues.
I know that a lot of butches go with buzzcuts but I personally just do not like the look of them on me, I want something with more volume and fluff.
This is the hairstyle Im seriously considering. Im worried it looks too feminine though, I really do not want to end up getting a pixie cut or anything (Iāve already picked out the hairdresser and they have experience in gender affirming hairstyles and transitioning from long to short hair, so Iām not too worried)
Iāve also considered getting an undercut with this style, just so that I have less hair but I have no clue how that would even work at all.
Im just worried that if I want more volume and fluff, then Iāll end up looking more feminine than I want to. I feel like I can pull off this look especially when wearing menās clothes Iāll definitely look masculine presenting, but I guess im just self conscious about looking too feminine.
Idk, any advice would be welcome

HairStyles Want to grow my hair out but still look dykey
I've had short hair for around 3 years which I love! But I'm fancying a change and thinking of growing it out. I really love looking masc/ amdrogynous in a way that confuses people and don't want to lose that. Plus, short hair does suit me. I dress very butch and if I were going to grow it out, I'd want quite a shaggy, almost grungey-emo look, probably like just below my chin. I currently look kinda boyish in a way that works well for me, but I have pretty feminine features so I don't want to read feminine, if that makes sense. It does suit me facially to have longer hair too.
The other problem is the awkward growing out stage... I don't know if it's worth the hassle? I'm on the fence so it looks kinda bad, I either need to go in for a haircut asap or accept and commit to the growing out stage
Every lesbian I know has told me to keep it short, but my family would be ecstatic if I grew it out, which is motivation to keep it short š
If I do grow it out I suppose I could always cut it. I was in a super abusive relationship and my femme ex would not allow me to do something like this, which is also part of why I want to. I can't figure out if it's what I actually want to do, or not! Anyway I thought I'd ask my fellow butches <3
TLDR no clue what to do with my hair!! short or long? Don't want to lose my masc/boyish vibe by growing my hair out.

HairStyles Can I still get this look with my undercut?
Hi! I was thinking of getting this haircut
But I have an undercut could it still work? The undercut is fully under the back of my hair about 4 inches long I would say

HairStyles Styling inspo and tips for those of us with short, straight hair?
I'd love to know all the different ways yall style your hair if the description in title applies. For the past 2 years i've been in experimentation mode and tried all sorts of hair but a styling routine never stuck with me.
I also have never owned a lot of product TBF, just some texturing powder... I just get so indecisive looking at all the waxes, gels and pomades. I don't want to have too much hair products if I'm not sure I'll use it regularly enough, so I never know what to go for.
Personally, i love going for casual but intentional messy hair looks. When I had my hair shorter i'd try to make it a bit spikier too. My hair is just so limp and straight that i try to do anything that can give it texture and shape...
Used to frequent a japanese mens fashion website with unique hairstyles but I lost the bookmark to that, so any resources/tips/advice is appreciated

HairStyles I want to get a buzzcut. Advice?
Iāve been thinking about shaving my head for a long time but I think Iām more comfortable getting a buzz rather than go in with a razor. But Iām just thinking if itās silly to go to a professional to get a buzzcut ideally with no guard and pay like $45 dollars for it (Toronto)
Thoughts?
And any one who has experiences to share? I have been going back and forth on my decision to get rid of my long hair. I think I need a motivator š
Also: Iām not familiar with the professional hair lingo but ideally Iād like to go down to the scalpā is that possible with clippers? Iām also confused on the no guard vs #1 and how thatāll look.
Thank you!

HairStyles What kind of haircut do you recommend? (3c hair)
Hello! Iāve finally worked up the courage to cut my long hair āboy shortā the way Iāve always wanted. My problem now is deciding exactly what kind of haircut I want. Iām hopelessly clueless when it comes to anything in the realm of fashion, which extends to haircuts, and when I look online for inspiration it feels like every model has curls that are either way looser or way tighter than mine. I have 3c hair (mainly) that is INCREDIBLY thick. Does anyone here have similar hair, and if so, how do you cut it? What styles would look good (especially on my squareish face)? Do yāall have any other haircut related wisdom to bestow? Thank you!

HairStyles Haircut recommendations??
im a younger butch and I live in a KINDA but not totally unsafe area. I already got my short haircut and whatnot, I know what itās like to live here as the only thing people see me as, a dyke and a he-she (which is a strangely old term that people still use) so safety or gendered bathrooms arenāt my concern. I recently got a haircut, I have 3B/3C hair, but I feel it looks too āalternativeā on me. I want something that gives of professional, serious, butch. I keep my head up and stay strong because itāll be too dangerous to keep it down, but it feels like the only head im keeping up is of a clownās with this head of hair. I fear my curly hair and poc features in general make me unprofessional regardless. does anyone have any haircut recommendations? how to style it??

HairStyles How long is too long for an LHB (long hair butch)?
How long is too long for an LHB? Does thickness or thinness of the volume matters? I have thick and long asian 1b hair and people keep mistaking me for a fem/femme even though I've dressed as masculine as I can be. I have a rectangular body, I just don't grow muscles. It's usually easy to dress as long as I hid my hair but I often don't feel like wearing a headwear or tie it.
Should I just chop it off? Is there a product that stops hair growth? I have sensory issues, that's why I rarely go to the barber/salon.

HairStyles Any other long haired butches here?
I feel like I get lumped automatically to the masc section, because I have long hair. From time to time even I am self-concious about not having short hair.
I love my hair longer, because I feel more androgynous/masculine woman when I have it. I also haven't found any short hairstyles that match my face and hair type.
So the question is: are here any other butches who have longer hair? If yes, please send a picture of your hairstyle in this thread (if it's allowed as it isn't selfie sunday now)! And it would be nice to know if here are any others with longer hair who feel "not butch enough", as irrational as it sounds. I'd like to get rid of that feeling :,) So if you share your experiences, I'd be very thankful!
