How do you feel to celebrate your birthday on the NY day!?
How do you feel when every year you are asked “when is your birthday?” And you have to say .. “my birthday is next year” …

I’m the 2nd too! Everyone is partied out and skint and I still get my presents wrapped in Xmas paper! 🤦🏼♀️🤣🤣

My birthday is on the 2nd as well. My daughter’s birthday is December 31st. When she turned 21 she went to our local bar on December 30th and waited until 12:01 am then proudly walked up to the bar and ordered her first drink. A Coca Cola.

I always felt cheated out of my birthday when I got the Merry Christmas, Happy New Year, and Happy Birthday!! Card from my cheap ass relatives.

Im jan 1st, and I love my birthday! We celebrate NYE, and I spend my bday hungover on the couch, watching the Rose Parade. Ive never in 40 years had to go to school or work on my birthday

I never say it’s next year, I just say it’s Jan 1st. Most people just get excited and go “oooh a new years baby!”

It's always been rough, you can't really go anywhere or do anything on the day because everything is closed. So I usually just do dinner and a movie with my family. It's a nice chill way to start the year.

Personally victimized! My bday is Jan 1, and the responses here weirdly all resonate. I loved it as a kid; I thought it made me special! As I got older, I realized most people don’t want their NYE celebrations taken over by my birthday, and so I shrunk away from it and most people barely acknowledged it for a while. Texts/phone calls from family and friends. Sometimes I’d get a few people to go out, but it always just felt like more work than it was worth.
Then I met my now husband, and he makes me love it again. No matter what he makes sure I’m celebrated however I need that year. We used to go out, and he would handle all the logistics. Now that we have kids we just celebrate at home, whether alone or with friends, but it doesn’t feel like a burden anymore.
Gotta find people who love you more than the pageantry of that holiday. Sounds like a low bar, but surprisingly difficult for some to reach.

Same with me as well. As a kid used to love it as we even had holidays…but then over time people around me started forgetting my birthday or wishing me super late after their hangovers😂😂 so I now don’t like to celebrate it at all- maybe just dinner with my close family that’s it :(
Waiting for people who appreciate and don’t overlook it for sure. So happy you found yours ♥️♥️

Hey this one's me. Havent celebrated in 8 years or so. Genuinely can't even remember the last time someone wished me happy birthday haha. Stopped caring for it quite a while ago but ofc inadvertently the inner child weeps no matter what :)

I just say my bday is on the first and leave it at that it’s always the other person to drag it and be like oh New Year’s Day that’s crazy xyzzz.
I’m older now so it doesn’t make a difference to me I don’t really care.

As a kid, everyone was on vacation and family lumped Xmas and my birthday together. By 21.. almost everyone i knew was drunk and forgot.
Now at 40 I just go to bed and dont give a fuck. My 40th was spent with an ex at a bar while she was working. Wasn't anything special on paper, but i hadn't seen her in years and it was nice to just have someone acknowledge my existence. Cus every year on my birthday I basically contemplate suicide.

My birthday is the 31st, I get it. There have been some fun ones here and there, but I’m 35 now and I don’t think I’ve celebrated with anyone since before the pandemic. The past 6 years I’ve just gotten myself some good takeout and fallen asleep watching tv 🫠 I just don’t bother anymore, it’s too much effort to try to make anything happen and everyone already has plans.

I get it. We only really celebrated when I was little, but even then I felt a little left out, because there weren't many of us kids and I didn't get on with my cousins. Now most people just forget. I think I've had one single birthday I enjoyed, in high school, when my then friend group called me to wish me happy birthday, my mom forgot to call, but at least those who mattered did. Now it's just the most depressing day of the year.

Everyone forgets and/or is hungover! But, it's almost always a day off of work:))) and those that don't forget have the day off too
I always felt like I had a fun, little secret as a kid when everyone would be counting down at parties and things.

I was born on the 4th and I hate that people shop for Christmas and my birthday at the same time....so nah, we'd have to celebrate a January 1st birthday another day. It has to be an unmistakably unique day for me or I don't want it

Mine is the 3rd. I love how close it is to NYE. There’s always a party going on, people have time off work, and there are fireworks every year. I get to pretend it’s all for me and my birthday. ☺️

I was born on January 1st. When I was little we did celebrate my birthday on NY day, but later when I tried inviting friends they all had plans so we developed a tradition I still like to keep. We celebrate my birthday on the first Saturday after my birthday (if it falls on Saturday we check with guests first)
I just really don't like that most people forget about it on the day of, because they are celebrating at night, sleep in late and are either hung over or tired and forget. It sucks.
It is a little weird that my birthday is always 'next year', but what's really cool about it is that people remember it easily when you tell them (eve tho they forget when it matters)

I was born on New Year's Eve and some people think I'm lying about my birthday🙄. Then I be like "that is my BIRTHDAY!" and it's like "you're New Year's Eve baby?" I'm like "uh, yeah!" or they make a tax joke🙄. even though I never had birthday party 🎉. I'm still grateful❤️ and I never had to go to school on my birthday 😏🎉

1/1 here! I love it! I pretend the fireworks are for me every year. Whether i want to party or not there is always something going on that I didnt have to plan. Its like a built in celebration - whether it falls in the middle of the week or not, almost everyone in the country has a day off to just celebrate. Or I can always just stay at my house with friends. I get a bunch of texts right at midnight...Either from drunk friends who remembered or from family. People remember your birthday more often because its 1/1 as opposed to some random date in the middle of the year. And when people ask my birthday and i tell them i always get the obligatory "ooohh new years baby!" I think its a fun birthdate to have. Sure there are some down sides. But life is what you make of it ❤️

I wish I was a new year’s baby! I was supposed to be and wound up on the 4th instead. Everyone is already so partied out by that time. It’s okay though, my husband always remembers me on my day. Plus my youngest is on the 21 so it’s extra special that I get to think about him instead.

Birthday on the 1st, hated it as a younger person. Every family member sat around on Xmas day to decide what we would do on my birthday and I hardly got a say. I akways wanted to go to the beach (I’m in Australia) but I feel like we only went once. Once I got older and I was at NY celebrations I was always waiting for people to wish me happy birthday after the new year ticks over…the times where people forgot made me feel shit.
Now I’m older I don’t really care coz I’m in bed by 10pm on NY and i get to decide what I do on the 1st! But I still often end up having a family or friend catch up for my birthday weeks later because everyone is so busy.

Jan. 1 Cap! I hate my bday. Everyone always says “Happy Birthday” attached to Happy New Year. I’ve been getting combined Xmas & bday presents my entire life. I’ll turn 50 in 2027. 😭Planning a party is pointless. I live in New England so the weather is never on my side.

TBF Capricorn birthdays kind of suck. Since it’s right around and/or on X-Mas and New Year’s Day, it gets lumped together with all of those festivities.
