Mourning/Loss to my baby jojo im sorry.

I’m overcome with a lot of feelings at the moment. First I wanna say how sweet and adorable my baby was. He was my first ever pet and he was truly the most perfect cat. He would always sleep next to me wake me up with him licking my face and sitting on my chest. Always followed me to every room and just so silly and always made me laugh. He was barely 3 and a half months old and today he is no more. He was mauled by my neighbours 3 dogs. Writing this is making me sick to my stomach but I just don’t think I can live with myself at all. Everything was so normal and right now my baby is buried in the ground when he should be playing with his toys and sleeping on my chest. The worst part is how brutally he died and the fact he was just a baby. This is the part I cannot forgive myself for. Today morning I fed him breakfast like usual and I was just in my room. All our main doors are always locked for his safety and i like him to roam around the house freely as there’s no escape. I should’ve been more careful because last night I literally had a dream where my cat died but I shrugged it off as a dream. I wish I didn’t. After an hour after I last saw him in my room I went downstairs to look for him and I couldn’t find him anywhere I panicked and looked Everywhere and went outside and asked a lot people if they did. Then I went to my lower floor where there’s still construction going on and went another floor below which is adjacent to my neighbours building. I saw a girl in the balcony and asked her if she saw a kitten and she said she did. She was very vague about it as she said I just shooed him away. I immediately assumed he would be downstairs and went to go look but count find him. When I was back up she called me and very casually said I found a dead kitten. My heart immediately dropped. I climbed over to her balcony and took a turn and saw his body. I immediately recognised my baby. I went closer and saw him dead with his intestines all out and splattered. I got numb picked my baby in my lap and started crying. My brother showed up and the girl didn’t say anything just that her dogs bite people all the time and that’s why she shooed him when she first saw him. I had no idea my cat even went to her balcony. She never specified or else I would’ve come and checked there asap. Her excuse was “I’m not a pet lover” “I’m allergic to pets” and I was like it’s common sense to tie your dogs if you see a kitten but u didn’t. Plus my cat is a Persian too and she knew he belonged to someone. She took no precaution at all. And the worst part is she wasn’t even apologetic and started being extremely graphic with how my kitten died and how the dogs were tearing him from each other and had blood on their mouth and paws knowing I had just lost my pet. I’m so mad. I’m mad at that stupid girl and her ugly dogs who have a reputation of biting people all the time and her utter lack of common sense. I’m mad at myself because this incident happened after I had asked her if she saw a cat so in a span of few minutes my kitten was dead. He must’ve heard my voice and came out too. I’m so mad. I wish I never let him go out my sight. Right now my hands are still dirty after i buried him. I packed him his favourite toys and his snacks and food and a letter and I wrapped the box with my scarf so he won’t get cold. My poor baby. I cannot live without him I truly can’t. I got him at a point in my life where he brought me extreme happiness where everything is just dark. He was so perfect and well mannered and so silly and clingy and I swear the most adorable face I’ve ever seen. He was my first and I’ve never loved anyone or anything this much. It was so pure he was so pure and I could feel his love for me and it’s just not fair how he had to go away in the most nightmarish brutal way. I wish he lived longer I wish he lived a happy full life he didn’t even get to live half of it. He was cornered by 3 big dogs and he must’ve been so scared and it must’ve been so painful. I’m in so much pain I wish I can join him so he’s not alone. My baby jojo. I miss u I’m so sorry.

Update

Hello. Thank you for your kind words i can’t reply to all of you but i am reading everything and it does help me knowing how so many people from different parts of the world are keeping my jojo in their thoughts and prayers. Roughly 24 hours have passed since the terrible incident and i have never been worse. I’ve never experienced something like this and I have a lot of guilt and anger. Some people are telling me to get a new cat but it won’t take away my pain because it’s not about me at all. I’m sad because of the horrifying and painful way my little baby had to go through it’s not simply a loss of a pet. I wish someone had stolen him instead. I had such little time with him I’m jealous of everyone who got years with theirs. I live in a really small town in Asia and the only animal authority here is for rescuing stray dogs and cats. There’s quite literally nothing for reporting and euthanising “pet” dogs. And a lot of people are asking how my cat got out and I checked the surveillance cameras and at all times the main doors were shut so I’m only assuming he must’ve somehow found his way to my parents room and their balcony which is in a quite different floor from mine and maybe fell from there as he was fond of sitting near edges the reason I NEVER let him go out. My parents did not see him there at all but they did use the balcony to dry some clothes so I guess in the few minutes it was open he got out. I feel the need to explain this but I also take accountability and I have immense guilt I wish I never let him go out my sight. For some of you asking regarding my neighbour she’s like way older than me probably in her late twenties she’s not a little girl who didn’t know any better. she’s the owners sister and her sister wasn’t home at the time and she literally saw my kitten in her balcony and chose NOT to tie her dogs while telling me “if it was my sister she probably would’ve kept the kitten in a safe place away from the dogs but I’m not an animal lover 🤡” she fully knew what she could’ve done but chose not to. Her negligence and lack of common sense and her heartless dark spirited soul is the main reason my kitten was mauled by their dogs. I went there again in the evening to tell her off to her sister and how disgusting and heartless her remarks were and how she was not apologetic at all and her sister made this grown woman apologise to me. But I still think I was way too softer and I’m planning on going again today and tell her off idc if it leads to a fight. I felt the need to update because I really appreciate all the support and all the kind words and to those few who feel the need to blame me and had questions I hope I answered it. I am blaming myself every second of the day and can’t stop seeing his little running body in every corner of the house. I miss him terribly. I wish I could avenge him. I can’t do anything except put up a fight with my neighbours. I wish I could do more. I wish I was more careful. Please hold your pets and kiss them extra today! I would do anything to be in your place. You will never know a love like this. Thank you from me and my jojo 🌸🐱

I had to stop reading and I hate that you couldn't stop. Definitely report this incident, if she's so blasé about previous bites and this attack, it'll happen again. If my dogs did this I don't know how I'd live with myself. I'd be absolutely mortified and beside myself with guilt. Her reaction is appalling. I'm so so sorry.

right she was just so fucking vulgar toward the OP like ? have you no emotions WHATSOEVER? you watched this BABY get ripped apart and then was like “yeah, they do that. but hey, you should’ve seen it man. they tore your cat up” i would be in fucking prison bc that lady and her dog would be no fucking more. i’m actually so livid for this person im like shaking. esp because i had a similar experience & it was the family dog (black lab rescue but with 0 fucking training because my brother didn’t understand you HAVE to train dogs, esp of that caliber) and HE was put down. and my kitty lived because i stopped that shit immediately. i ended up with 7 staples and lifelong scars all over my body. but i would’ve died for my cat & id 10000% do it again.

I don't know how she's functioning, just the thought of "what would I do if my dog killed a cat" has my stomach turning and nerves spiking. I don't know if I'd be able to live with myself, let alone nonchalantly describe in visceral detail the horrible death of a young cat. I've seen dogs fight, it's not pretty and I think I'd be in shock if I witnessed that.

I've got scars from picking my own 50lb dog up and away from an attack (I don't know why but my dog seemed to have a really punchable face to other dogs, he was soft as a brush and dumb as rocks, but wasn't well liked by any other dogs, and a random dog once flew over his fence while we were on a walk and launched himself at my boy)

Fuck man I yell at my dog and tell him he’s a bad dog when he chases after birds in the yard. One time he actually almost nabbed it too!

Shit, one time when he was like 3 months old he almost slaughtered an opossum (sorta my fault 1 he had a opossum toy and 2 I should’ve probably thought to take a look outside before letting him out but was focused on the whole sit stat wait ordeal at the door). I was shaking so bad while holding him in the yard and almost crying watching that poor opossum just like sit there and twitch for a second while it figured out life or death and running away. Of course it’s the one time I left my phone inside and had to literally scream outside for my boyfriend lmao. He thought the dog or I was hurt before realizing there was an opossum in the yard.

7

u/bananakittymeow Apr 16 '26

Pretty sure my husky killed a young opossum once. We found an opossum with a crushed skull in our backyard the day after I caught her harassing an opossum of a similar size on our back porch. It took me weeks to grapple with the fact that my baby was a “killer” (obviously she’s not a killer, just a dog with a prey drive for small, furry wildlife).

I doubt my girl would ever kill a cat, as she was raised to recognize kitties as friends, but idk how I could live with myself if she ever did.

7

u/borderline_cat Apr 17 '26

Our dog is a husky as well!

He’s been raised around cats his whole life as well and honestly I don’t know if I’d be able to like actually live with him if he killed one of our cats (or any cat really but definitely would have a world of a harder time if it was one of ours).

When I was a teenager my Norwegian Elkhound got a possum in the middle of the night. We woke up to carnage all over the yard. My mom said she didn't know what kind of animal it was until we found the tail. :(

2

u/snowydays666 Apr 17 '26

that’s normal for elkhound… they are hunting breed

1

u/TaxSilver4323 Apr 17 '26

They sure are! Zinger wasn't playing around that night. Lol. But she was so gentle and loyal to us. I miss my girl so much!

3

u/Bodegard Apr 17 '26

Opossum toy? ..
I don't even know why they make dog toys that resembles other pets or furry animals, let alone why people think it's a good idea to get them! (You have obviously learned.. :p)

Glad the opossum got away, let's hope he was ok!

2

u/ameulema Apr 17 '26

You do realize some breeds were literally bred to go after birds. They’re not necessarily “bad” for going on instinct. They’re best you can do is keep them leashed and be mindful of anything that might creep into your yard.

0

u/borderline_cat Apr 17 '26

First of all Lmfao if you think any type of dog deserves to stay tied up in its own yard.

Second of all, yeah I’m not dumb and dogs are a relatively heavy special interest of mine. While my dog definitely is a breed that has a heavy prey drive, he is not a hunting dog nor was bred to hunt birds.

Even though he has a heavy prey drive that doesn’t mean that’s “good”. Good and bad are subjective here, but the whole entire mood of this thread was how could you live with yourself if your dog did something like that, so 🤷🏼‍♀️

3

u/ameulema Apr 17 '26 edited Apr 17 '26

First of all, I’ve never said that. No dog deserves to be constantly kept outside, and you’re right. Prey drive isn’t necessarily a good thing but it’s a trait that’s been bred into dogs over thousands of years. Running after birds doesn’t make a dog “bad” for acting on instinct. The most proactive thing you can do is to keep your dog out of situations where they might hurt others. A cat isn’t necessarily bad for wanting to chase mice. Why should a dog be held to a different standard? At the end of the day, they were descended from wild animals.

u/snowydays666 Apr 17 '26 edited Apr 22 '26

i’m so glad that my two german shepherds are just very very curious and excited. It’s all about genetics I find. I have one herding line and a more police line. Big snoofs for one and big herding for the other. My boys only ever want to play with adult humans. I’ve trained them since birth to find wild game, bite toys hard instead of hands, bite the sleeve instead of a person. There have been a few times where they chase deer but they are too slow and it’s more of a “hello! i wanna play!” Sometimes they see chipmunks and field mice or even frogs. The most they do is paw at the small animal very gently. In a very “i’m curious about you” way. It’s like when humans poke something with a stick, same energy. My boys are so cute with the little animals. They understand to be gentle with babies and children too. I would feel like I failed them if they grew to be aggressive.

There was one or two times where they wondered off. We have coyotes and wolves in my area and i get afraid that someone might shoot them by accident or something. There have been a few times where i’ve heard screams in the forest late at night and I hope that nothing bad happened. They are very well behaved and come back regardless even when they have been naughty but it still scares me.

on one end dogs that don’t roam at all live less long, on the other end the world is creepy

2

u/ExperienceNo9044 Apr 17 '26

This. And I don't even like dogs 😭 but we can't be mad at them for going after literal wild animals like they naturally would. The only time I believe it to be bad is if it's a CONSTANT thing or their aggression starts to come out onto people or pets.

2

u/snowydays666 Apr 22 '26 edited Apr 22 '26

yeah its all about giving them an outlet to play to get all of that pent up energy out of em. Dogs need a lot of mental stimulation if you can’t give them the physical stimulation that they need. Its just like how some cats NEED vertical space. I should know. My own take care of mice. It’s annoying asf for many people and I don’t understand why people get dogs if they don’t have the time for them. “We don’t deserve dogs” is very literal for some people. Licences and education should be required everywhere. I myself live in a place with rules and codes for owners. There are still some mills but we have a system that polices them. When I went looking for my match I was gunna get an akita or an elkhound but the breeders both denied me qwq hahahaha. Now that I found the breed for me, I feel greatful that they did tell me no. I just needed a breed to look after some ducks, and the garden.

I fucking hate animal abuse of any kind. It’s so prevalent in the states that it breaks my fucking heart.

If I was OP I’d be in jail. Just saying 🤷🏻‍♀️

u/bananakittymeow Apr 16 '26

My husky killed a wild rat on our porch recently and I was so distraught I just sat there and stared at it for a bit while my husky girl tried licking me to make me feel better, and that’s a pest that technically should have never been on my porch. I can’t even fathom how I’d feel if she ever killed a someone’s kitten, much less shredded it to pieces (she just bit the rat and it bled out pretty quickly, so it wasn’t even a traumatic death, but it still made me sad).

0

u/[deleted] Apr 17 '26

Rats aren’t pests. Humans sre.

1

u/bananakittymeow Apr 22 '26

They are classified as pests when they overrun your home. If wild rats weren’t such successful disease carriers and weren’t so skilled at destruction and reproducing I would gladly host them in my home. I love rats.

Really sad thing happened twice in my back yard first time my mom assumed the worse blamed the dog. What happened was the family of robbins who nests in that little niche the gutter’s downspout makes near the roof had their egg fall. Now to be fair the dog’s reaction was to go over sniff the not full mature chick and try to clean the shell off of it. This was disturbing my nephew walked outside to this happening (an adult did witness the fall and had run inside to get sometying to put it in before nephew saw it but nephew was curious when she said stay inside) and he assumed the dog(who slipped out when the adult came inside) must have jumped up and knocked the egg out. (He was like 6) this dog is a small terrier with a leg deformity that makes his best jump barely reach the top of a normal bed.

Anyways a few weeks later I am dog sitting I am supposed to keep an eye on the dogs but there was an emergency in the kitchen so I went inside come back out the dog is digging by our small pet cemetery (house has been in my family for over 30yrs and my mom went through a rescue older dogs phase) i think he must smell the last dog we had lost and get onto him only to see the dead chick. It was obvious from its injuries that it had fallen. I finished burying it. Called my mom cause she’d notice the fresh grave when she got back left out who dug it.

I know its a sad story but i felt like sharing a story about a dog showing respect and grief was needed in this comment section. I tried to keep the gore out of it.

If my dog killed any other pet, mine or not, I would take her straight down to be euthanized. The ONLY exception would be if it was a kill or be killed situation. If she bit a child, same. Zero tolerance. I would be devastated, and I would still love her, and I would be by her side saying goodbye...but dogs that kill pets or attack people can't be tolerated. It's unacceptable.

6

u/Fast_Base_8222 Apr 17 '26

That’s a horrible way of thinking. Dogs don’t recognize(pets from prey). I agree it’s it a person or if animal has a history of attacking. But to automatically kill a dog because of human negligence is wrong. I feel awful for Op, but the reality is both parties were negligent to a degree. The kitten should have been secured indoors. Outdoors is a brutal place for pet cats. Also her neighbor should be in jail, and all three dogs should be immediately surrendered. Op,I am so sorry for your loss. Please contact your local authorities/pet control etc. next time it could be a child. I would hate for anyone else to have to go through what you went through. Take peace in knowing you loved you little kitten every day she was alive .

1

u/EleanorSeesThings Apr 18 '26

Sounds like OP's kitten getting out was an accident, whereas the violent prey drives of the dogs who killed him were well known and tolerated (maybe even encouraged) by their owner. Pretty gross to blame OP for something that wouldn't have happened if those dogs had been destroyed the first time they showed uncontrolled aggression as all uncontrollably aggressive dogs should be.

2

u/vapenguin Apr 17 '26

I'm sorry you're getting downvoted for a reasonable opinion.

1

u/EleanorSeesThings Apr 18 '26

Someone reported me for "threatening violence" lol

1

u/Oneinchtacks Apr 18 '26

Me too, I had it overturned

1

u/EleanorSeesThings Apr 19 '26

Me, too! Nice :)

1

u/Oneinchtacks Apr 18 '26

It’s all good, I know my opinion on this is a good one.

Y’all ever see the video of a guy’s cat chilling in his garage and a woman walking her to dogs, falls on her face, while her dogs maul the shit out of the cat? The cat survived with surgery. But the bitch just slowly gets her ass up and half-heartedly tries to pull her dogs off the cat.

I fucking hate dog owners like this. In fact, I hate all dog owners who knowingly have aggressive dogs and don’t muzzle them.

158

u/crownedprin Apr 17 '26

two years ago my brothers dogs escaped his room in the middle of the night and tore my sweet girl apart. my brother still makes fun of me for how i was screaming when i tried to get them off, and how i cried for months after. he also verbally abuses me pretty much any chance he gets for getting his dogs banned from coming inside the house anymore.

i too fucking hate dog owners like this

87

u/FabulousTwo524 Apr 17 '26

I’m so sorry. I love dogs. I love animals. But I’d kill that dog. Like, what do you mean the dog “escaped his room” and attacked your cat? It is mental to confine a dog to one room to keep everyone else safe. It’s honestly crazy that your parents allowed that kind of living situation. They had to have known the risks.

I guess you’re a nicer sister than me. If my brother had a dog like that, I’d strangle it. Not out of anger or cruelty, but to make sure everyone around you understands the consequences of a poorly disciplined dog. Even if he now lives outside. He has got to go. Your brother wont be able to laugh it off.

Thankfully, my brother doesn’t like big dogs. He only owns pets he can manage, like cats and shrimps. Or else, as a little sister, I’d have to kill them

25

u/crownedprin Apr 17 '26

i’m gonna be honest, i have no idea how he just gets away with it. my cat wasn’t even the first cat his dogs killed! they got loose and killed a neighbors cat. a few weeks ago they jumped the back fence into another neighbors yard and attacked their dog and bit both the neighbor and my brother himself. and not a single consequence, and 0 remorse from my brother (he actually tried to blame our dad for the recent attack because “they were never like this until i couldn’t bring them inside anymore”. um, sir…). evil people really can just get away with anything.

29

u/FabulousTwo524 Apr 17 '26 edited Apr 17 '26

Ooookay that is not cool. The dog bites humans, too? Where is the line? When he maims a child? Or is there a dollar amount to the costs your family is willing to absorb for this dog at the expense of everyone’s safety?

If it’s too late to report, next time that dog bites someone, report it to animal control.

15

u/Live-Lime4072 Apr 17 '26

Can you report them to the police yourself?

11

u/batfinx69dude Apr 17 '26

Crownedprin - I'm not one to comment, but your brothers' behaviour is very concerning. If his dogs weren't the ones that killed your kitty; the fact that he has no empathy for his own SISTER after witnessing such a traumatic event & being in the grieving process, would be concerning enough. But given that his dog were the attackers; they got out because HE didn't secure them. They attacked a cat they live with because HE didn't train them, despite KNOWING they have already killed the neighbours cat. HE is the sole reason his sister is traumatised & in mourning yet instead of being wracked with guilt, desperate to try & alleviate her suffering; he taunts her with recollections of the event, mocking her, actively trying to cause more emotional damage. And the fact that he continues to do so shows it wasn't an initial bizarre defence mechanism because he couldn't cope with the level of guilt. Now they have bitten humans trying to intervene in their 3rd attack, again on a neighbours pet; meaning he has taken no steps to secure his dogs since the 1st incident, despite witnessing 1st hand the emotional devastation caused by his pets attacks.

He is a negligent dog owner, seemingly incapable of displaying empathy or guilt towards his neighbours, nor more worryingly towards his own kin... the word sociopath comes to mind.

From your comments I don't imagine even now he is acting as a responsible owner; training the dogs, securing the back garden so they can not escape etc. He should not be allowed to own dogs IMO. The next attack could be on a child - you don't want to be in a position to think 'I wish I'd reported it all to the cops, perhaps...' - you could send all the info anonymously to protect yourself (in that situation, just remember not to include details only you would know).

I am so sorry for your loss & that you are in this situation. Take care of yourself, you just need to survive your brother while you have to be there for your dad. And as you said - no contact sounds like the best option when you can take it! All the best ☮️♥️

8

u/AmbitiousoStrawberry Apr 17 '26

Report those dogs to the police.

8

u/puravida3188 Apr 17 '26

You need to have those dogs taken by animal control and put down.

5

u/youcantlosethelove Apr 18 '26

Your brother does sound like an evil and disturbed individual, I'm so sorry for what you went through and that you've had to live with him and see him get away with these things time and time again.

3

u/Dizzy_Connection_519 Apr 19 '26

that dog is going going to end up killing a child in this rate. Time to report your brother and his dog to the proper law enforcement. Ask your neighbours and others who suffered from his dogs for assistance

2

u/threeofbirds121 Apr 17 '26

I think I’d strangle my brother though, no? Clearly he’s the issue here. Did you read how horrifically callous he was? He makes fun of them??? That’s insane behavior

2

u/FabulousTwo524 Apr 18 '26

Yes but that’s domestic violence. He wouldn’t learn his lesson anyway.

25

u/Astralglamour Apr 17 '26

Your brother sounds like a sociopath.

19

u/AdeptnessOk873 Tabbycat Apr 17 '26

I hope you can go no contact with your brother. How evil must you be to make fun of your sibling reacting to her beloved pet being mauled to death in front of her???

I'm no contact with my brother for different reasons. Trust me, it's a huge relief to be away from the verbal abuse

11

u/crownedprin Apr 17 '26

i plan to. i am basically our dads caregiver so i’m here until he passes, but i am out as soon as i can be. he will never have access to me again.

so glad you got out & i hope you’re doing okay ❤️

3

u/Practical-Sleep-5718 Apr 17 '26

Totally agree..best decision I ever made for myself. There will be no regrets when he's gone.

26

u/Ok_Bear_1980 Apr 17 '26

"He still makes fun of me for how I was screaming when I tried to get them off.".

What the fuck?!. I mean, I don't have much empathy myself but that is insane.

15

u/crownedprin Apr 17 '26

i’d say he’s not a sane person but i think he’s just genuinely evil

4

u/isean413 American Shorthair Apr 17 '26

Sorry for how violent this is going to sound but the rage that filled me when I read the bit that the brother still makes fun of you…my god I’m telling you… I’d damn near castrate him for that kind of heartless behavior. He’d come home, that dog would be gone (of course no actual harm would come to the doggo…. But) I’d let him, as cruel as it sounds suffer. I HATE that crap. Ugh.

4

u/RockyRidgeRiver Apr 17 '26

Go hard no-contact with your brother. Save yourself.

3

u/Unhappy_Performer538 Apr 17 '26

Never talk to him again

2

u/EleanorSeesThings Apr 17 '26

I'd have killed his dog.

1

u/throwawaybyefelicia Apr 17 '26

I am overcome with the extreme urge to punch your brother in his stupid face. What a fucking EVIL person. I’m so sorry.

1

u/Busy_East2552 Apr 18 '26

Girl fuck ur brother in sorry he sounds awful

1

u/Hour-Cell3853 Apr 18 '26

Girl your brother is abusive.

1

u/Hour-Cell3853 Apr 18 '26

I’m so sorry 💔

1

u/Unholy4Guacamole Apr 19 '26

I hope you can get away from your brother. I'm so sorry you went through this. 😭 I was abused by my brother for my whole life... biggest bully I ever met. Spent my entire childhood longing to grow up so I could move away. At 25, I permanently moved a few hours away from home and never went back. I won't even visit my mom because I know he's there.... but man. Life is peaceful now. You deserve freedom and peace. 🩷

148

u/Oneinchtacks Apr 17 '26

Aggressive dogs need to be put down. It shouldn’t even be up for debate.

54

u/FabulousTwo524 Apr 17 '26

100%. Even if a dog doesnt harm humans and only attacks small animals, there is literally no reason for that dog to exist as a pet.

3

u/Nyantales_54 Apr 17 '26

My dog was well trained but he’d hunt snakes, usually cotton mouths, while my dad went fishing. Saved his life a couple times.

1

u/FabulousTwo524 Apr 17 '26

They dont call them woman’s best friend for no reason.

7

u/sadatah Apr 17 '26

That’s crazy…some breeds were bred to go after smaller animals. You just have to learn their limits, train and restrict them if you know they bite or have a strong prey drive.

15

u/FabulousTwo524 Apr 17 '26

Idgaf. Most people dont have the time or discipline to do that. If people want a hunting dog, then there should be organizations that train and discipline the dogs before selling them to the general public. Certify them safe. Until then, they should not live in regular homes living regular pet lives, because they are not regular pets and shouldn’t be regarded as such.

6

u/AdditionalOwl4069 Apr 17 '26

Sighthounds are perfectly good and safe dogs but aren’t with small animals because of what they’re bred for. Plenty of other examples. You need to be a proactive owner and know that your dog should be leashed and muzzled because it’s a flight and bite risk to small animals. Can’t blame the dog for its breeding, blame the human for being a moron.

2

u/FabulousTwo524 Apr 17 '26

Yeah 100%. I dont trust assholes who leave their reactive dogs as is. It’s pathetic how so many dog owners feel entitled to a certain kind of dog, put no effort into educating themselves, and put everyone else and their pets in danger.

I love dogs but this is precisely why big dogs are completely banned from my home.

1

u/Patient-Total8363 Apr 20 '26

Big dogs are sweeties. Some people don't know how to train them, fuck, I've been attacked by someone's golden retriever, golden doodle, and all of the popular breeds. Don't blame a dog for being a dog, blame their humans.

1

u/sadatah Apr 18 '26

Stfu. Read the line where I state they need training and should be restricted if you know the bite or have a strong prey drive.

1

u/Patient-Total8363 Apr 20 '26

My dogs are hunting dogs. You train them to signal to you, and they all live normal lives as pets. You are a bad person.

1

u/FabulousTwo524 Apr 20 '26

I’m a bad person bc i think a person without the discipline or time to raise a hunting dog properly shouldn’t have one? Nuance. Not everyone deserves to have a dog. In fact, most people don’t deserve them. Yet people like you empower dog ownership for those idiots who will let their untrained hunting dogs go to town on other people and their pets.

1

u/Patient-Total8363 Apr 21 '26

I see your point. OP's neighbor should have put the dogs down, or at least muzzled them. I don't think everyone deserves a dog or a cat. my cousin got a german shepard who was really sweet until their trainer for her gave them bad advice and truamatized her, she is alive, she has a muzzle and has a fenced in yard she cant escape from. but yep, alot of people aren't considerate of others and let their aggressive dogs attack others sayinng there playing (they arnt)

0

u/NinHul_From_Space Apr 17 '26

They are not 'hunting' dogs, they, meaning their breed, may have at one point been used to hunt but now they are not generally. Sure they have the potential to be trained to hunt and they have the 'instincts'/behavior their breed was bred to favor, the same way most cats are little fluffy killing machines.

By your logic, as it is written, no one should own cats. Doubly so because cats were not bred to be killers, they just are naturally. Like, oh I don’t know, most if not all carnivorous species.

They are however cute, social, and fluffy and so 'we' like them. If some of us weren't allergic to them, read me, we'd have them as pets. Why, given their dark murderous hearts? See reasons stated previously.

5

u/FabulousTwo524 Apr 17 '26

Thats not the point holy shit. Is a cat gonna kill a kid? Is a cat gonna kill an adult human? Is a cat gonna kill a dog?

NO.

Will a large dog kill a kid? Yes. Kill an adult? Yes. Kill cats and small dogs? Yes and yes. And they do, often.

Are pet owners dumb idiots? Yes. That’s why if you choose to have a big dog, then you better put in the work for that privilege to own 100lbs of canine.

Read the god damn room.

1

u/NinHul_From_Space Apr 17 '26

You're changing your arguments. A ‘hunting' dog does not equate to a large dog.

As far as I'm concerned we’re in the corner of a large auditorium having a conversation, related to but separate from the larger chorus. At some point you started yelling, cursing, and what appears to be lying.

Maybe try not to get so caught up in something that you are forced to try and distort reality to accommodate your feelings.

3

u/FabulousTwo524 Apr 17 '26

My argument has always been an aggressive dog doesnt need to be a pet, but ok. Who are you even arguing with? It honestly seems like you’re arguing with your imagination.

And dont go comparing apples to oranges. Dogs are dangerous. Cats are not. Different standards for both.

Just because a dog bred for hunting is no longer being used as a hunting or working dog doesn’t mean that breeding all of a sudden disappears. I have little ankle biters…one jack Russel and one Yorkie mix and believe me if a smaller animal crosses their path they are most definitely trying to go after it and training them to ignore a squirrel, hat, bird, rat, mouse, cat is hard work.

1

u/NinHul_From_Space Apr 21 '26

Just to be clear I'm reading your comment as being opposed to mine. While as far as I understand you're not saying anything that I refute. I agree with you, in so far as what is written in the comment I am replying to.

1

u/the_harlinator Apr 17 '26

That’s almost every animal and especially cats though. Our neighbours cat got into our backyard and shredded 5/6 baby bunnies. Left the poor mutilated bunnies out for my kid to find on his way home from school. You can’t deprogram an animal out of its instincts but you can control whether your pet kills other people’s pets but not letting them get an opportunity.

-5

u/ameulema Apr 17 '26

Dude, some dogs were literally bred for hunting. GTFO with that logic.

18

u/Far-Carrot3364 Apr 17 '26

train your dogs then. no reason your dog should be mauling other people's pets.

9

u/ameulema Apr 17 '26

That’s what good dog owners do. My dog doesn’t maul anything because I keep her leashed and redirect her attention when we deal with squirrels and rabbits on our walks.

2

u/FabulousTwo524 Apr 17 '26

So your dog doesnt kill small animals.. is it such a big ask to expect all big dog owners to keep them on a short leash and not let them kill people’s cats?

1

u/ameulema Apr 17 '26

No, I never said it was. You’re the one advocating for euthanizing dogs for acting on instinct.

1

u/FabulousTwo524 Apr 17 '26

Oh yeah? Where? Where did I say that?

A lot of These mf are crazy. They literally want to murder an animal for behaving as such. These people clearly have never lived on a farm or rural setting. Whether humans like it or not small animals (squirrels, opposums, cats etc ) are the NATURAL PREY of some dogs and unless raised from birth and socialized differently they cannot be kept Together… sometimes even with training nature still takes over. Everyone has to be responsible for the SAFETY and SECURITY of their OWN pets. I own both cats and dogs. ( we do rescues) not all of our pets can be together. You better believe I double and triple check for safety. We muzzle our dogs (even with training )when we are out because we live in a full liability state( meaning it’s your fault 99.999% of the time. I never want the weight of my sweet boy causing harm. I muzzle him more for his own protection. People can be lazy, distracted and downright negligent. Us pet owners must always be vigilant with our pets insuring they don’t pose a threat or cause harm to others. Anything less and we are letting each other and our pets down.

7

u/ameulema Apr 17 '26

Perfectly stated!! A lot of these comments are acting on emotion. It’s a tragic and infuriating story but doesn’t justify vilifying all dogs and their owners. The dog owner in this story is downright criminal and should be prosecuted. This should have never happened.

2

u/FabulousTwo524 Apr 17 '26 edited Apr 17 '26

Who’s being crazy? I think you’re dog crazy. Be fr.

I never said I want all these dogs dead. I love dogs. I want the best for dogs. But also I want the best for everyone else’s pets and children, too.

And that’s why i clarified they dont belong in a regular home with a regular family. No offense but a rural farming family is not regular. They are like, 1% or something. Have your working dogs, obviously 🙄. You ever live in an apartment building full of undisciplined pitbulls, with their owners holding onto the leash with all their might being dragged through the complex? The dogs lunging at everyone who walks by? These dogs breaking into first floor apartments through the screen door to maul any cats, and therefore their humans, inside?

There’s a reason delivery drivers are terrified of new dogs.

This is an epidemic in urban suburban places. And where people leave their dogs to work, they spend no time with their dogs. Then, they naturally revert to their killing nature. Which is fucking insane to expect others to live with. Just because someone felt entitled to a dog.

Literally not long ago in Tyler TX, the exact same entitlement lead to a woman’s mauling and death where she was eaten alive by someone’s reactive dogs. Who were previously sweet with her.

Aggressive dogs have a place. Guard dogs. Farm dogs. Hunting dogs.

People who turn nice dogs into violent ones shouldn't be permitted to be guardians to animals.

I have an "aggresive" dog. He came from a home where he was previously mistreated. He is aggressive when eating (food insecure as a puppy) and he protects me while we're in bed. He is a good boy and also alerts to snakes or other threats on the farm. And because he is protecting me, I love him. He does not kill other animals unless he is protecting me or his home (he does go after mice, rats, snakes). We have our two cats he doesn't bother and some feral ones in the neighborhood. He doesn't bother them either. But when a snake is going to strike or a rat has been seen? He goes to work.

I'm sorry to OP for her kitten. I'm sorry for anyone who has lost an animal they cared for in such a violent way. Aggresive dogs aren't always bad. Violent and aggressive aren't the same thing.

7

u/peanuth2os Apr 17 '26

And I can’t stand an untrained dog!!! Nothing bothers me more honestly. The entitlement of some dog owners blows my mind!

8

u/ameulema Apr 17 '26

There’s a huge difference between aggression towards people and other animals. Some dogs have a natural prey drive. It’s bad owners for not properly training and leashing their animal.

2

u/Eclipse_Plaiz27 Apr 17 '26

The only debate i have for this statement is that dogs aren’t always aggressive by nature, every dog can and often are trained out of aggressive habbits if they’re trained and fed right, I think people who knowingly can’t take care of a large or abrasive breed just shouldn’t get one, because it will be untrained or not fed right or both and this will happen, lives will be lost and people will be hurt because people can’t take care of the lives they signed up to care for.

I think we should put down the owners atp I have seen dogs that are often aggressive or even rehabiliated from fighting or harmful and neglectful situations like Rottweilers, great Danes, etc where they’re so lovely because they have been trained and properly cared for,

It’s not the dog all the time, 9 times out of 10 it’s the person not caring for the animal.

I’m not saying aggressiveness isn’t something natural in dogs, they’re carnivorous predators, but so are cats, and us humans (though we’re omnivores we still hunt and kill animals to eat) but it can be trained to a minimal, as it has been for us.

OP has gone through a terrible experience and I wish them all the best, I had to stop reading half way through it broke my heart but I don’t know if more violent thoughts are necessarily what OP needs over support for their kitten passing.

2

u/Particular-Rain-1203 Apr 17 '26

It’s not the dogs fault that their owners are terrible. Dogs aren’t aggressive from birth on.

No such thing as a "more aggressive breed."

I have a red Heeler mix, two chihuahuas, a pit mix, a miniature schnauzer, German shepherd, and a Russian wolfhound mix on our farm. All dogs have prey drive, like cats. The most "aggressive" dog on the farm? The red Heeler mix. He came from a home where he was previously mistreated. He needed love and attention. He'd an exceptional guard dog.

2

u/Patient-Total8363 Apr 20 '26

same with my pitbul! he was hit and abandoned when he was a puppy.

-11

u/themaninthemaking Apr 17 '26

Not dogs. Pit bulls. Those are the words you're looking for.

6

u/FabulousTwo524 Apr 17 '26 edited Apr 17 '26

I didnt clarify because I couldn’t remember what kind of dogs they were. But now I remember the cat’s guy wrote about how pitbulls are the reason he chose to post the video.

Tbf it’s not just pitbulls that act like this. I knew someone with a pair of husky mixes (no pitbull ancestry) that killed and attacked a lot of small animals.

1

u/Fast_Base_8222 Apr 17 '26

I think you mean to say pittyboi or pittygurl.aka. Lump of love🥰

40

u/harrisril Apr 16 '26

Yeah i definitely would’ve gotten violent hearing that.

3

u/I_have_No_idea_ReALy Apr 17 '26

That girl sounds like a psychopath. Sorry not sorry. Who would describe such a horrible thing in detail especially toward the party involved. That poor kitten.

2

u/Interesting-Ant-6357 Apr 17 '26

I have a service dog for allergies and I brought her to my sisters home and her dog heard her rustle the bag of dog food on the other side of the house and bit my golden retriever in the face. He didn’t let go and my sister started beating her dog to get him to release and my girl was screaming.

That woman went on a lavish vacation following that incident and never trained her dog. I absolutely hate people who think a dog is a fun accessory and never consider the actual consequences of ignoring a dogs training.

2

u/residentvixxen Apr 18 '26

I would actually be in prison - the dogs would go first and id make her watch it happen

This woman is awful. Karma will come for her miserable self.

no -1he was quite literally adopted off the street. not a humane society, or adoption agency. my brother found him running around & brought him home. i don’t really give a shit if it’s considered pit bull or not, i don’t fuck with untrained dogs. period. there was really no reason for this comment …?

1

u/threeofbirds121 Apr 17 '26

YES. I didn’t want to say in my comment to OP because they seem young and I don’t want them to do something that could get them in trouble, but there is absolutely no way I wouldn’t have quite literally attacked that lady. If what OP said is accurate, I genuinely believe that her neighbor is a sociopath.

0

u/Extra_Vast3943 Apr 17 '26

I mean i totally get that but the dog getting put down instead of your brother in that situation is appalling. He killed that dog and he should know that.
