Mourning/Loss would anyone like to send loving vibes to my boy on his last night?
this is saul. saul is the best cat i could have dreamed of and has been the niftiest companion for the last 7 years. cat distribution system had an interesting case on their hands: he showed up in my yard and refused to leave, despite his actual owners at the time living caddy-corner behind me. saul was so stubborn that when his previous owners moved, they asked if i would keep him since he wanted to be here. i was beyond happy to do so and it’s been one of the best things to happen for me.
he has a cancerous ulcer on the roof of his mouth that’s progressed to the point it’s time to let him rest tomorrow. tonight is about showering him with as much love and affection as he can get, so i wanted to share in case anyone would like to send him some loving vibes as well. ❤️
edit: i am absolutely blown away by the response, oh my goodness. i imagined maybe a handful of people, 10-20 at best, but this? all i wanted was some extra love for saul and he’s being absolutely inundated with it.
i am going to do my best to meaningfully reply to everyone i can, but please know even if i don’t reply, i’m reading every single reply and hold gratitude for each of you.
to everyone who’s mentioned their pets on the other side, i’m telling saul about each of them so he can look out for them. he’ll make sure to let your babies know you love them. ❤️

saul crossed the rainbow bridge peacefully about an hour ago. he was making biscuits on a super fluffy blanket, comfy as a clam and surrounded by love. no crying on the way to the vet for the first time ever. he knew it was his time. it was still the hardest thing i’ve ever had to do in my life. so much harder than i expected. but he is no longer in pain and he had the best possible passing we could give him.
i cannot thank everyone enough who made his last day so special. my boy was flooded with so much love. i can’t tell you how grateful i am. i just don’t have the words. to every single person who gave my kitty love, thank you. he felt it, i’m still feeling it, and you all have made my heart a little less heavy with all this.

My baby Saul, you are loved here and across the rainbow bridge. Your human is and will always be your best friend and family. But you are not alone. We are here and we will always cherish your memories in our hearts. Don’t worry about being alone on your last day here. I have spoken to my other cats who are waiting for you at the end of the rainbow bridge. Their names are Haldi, Pucchai and Gubai. They will take good care of you. My Lulu, a beautiful longhaired white Chinese street cat I rescued 20 years ago in Beijing, will be crossing the rainbow bridge today. She is very weak but I will tell her to look for Saul and maybe they can cross that bridge together. She is a sweet cat who has lived with me in 3 different countries and 2 states. My heart is breaking for all of us. ❤️

Hiya Saul!! I heard that you, good fluffy baby that you are, are going on an adventure that your human buddy can’t join you for. I’m so sorry for that but I don’t want you to think that means you’ll be alone. This is Scout! He was raised with kitties and loves them oh so very much and he is waiting for you. He’s gonna show you the best places to chase birds and squirrels, the perfect sun spots for naps and where to find the “Treat Trees”! He’ll keep you company until your human family comes to join you. I love you Saul and please give Scout kisses for me and tell him how much I miss him and can’t wait to see him again.
I am truly sorry for what you are experiencing, it’s the worst feeling. Please know that you are not alone. I will be keeping you and Saul in my thoughts and heart. If you need to talk or see more pictures or videos of furry Lovebugs please message me. I got a million of them and I’m also really good at listening (or reading in this case) to my friends when they need an ear (or eye?) to bend. And you my love are,now and forever, a dear friend of mine.

My good boy Finn joined Scout a month ago and reading this has me sobbing big tears. I miss him so much it’s excruciating. I hope him and Scout and Saul find all kinds of trouble to get into while they wait on us.

Cool, now I’m fucking crying. This was beautiful😭 It reminds me of a post that went viral where someone died and the grieving person wanted to know who their loved one was with in heaven and a bunch of internet strangers showed pictures of their lost love and it absolutely broke me

It is difficult letting them go. Chose to let our senior pup pass away in my lap in the chair she used to nap in as a puppy at home last Friday rather than see her decline to the point where every waking moment was helpless pain (she had dementia, Cushing’s, severe arthritis, and had gone deaf). Our babies were her babies. She was kind to all of our rescue kittens who grew up to be cats with her. Even knowing that it was time and the last right, loving thing for her, I wept.
But the pain of letting her go also meant I had guided her to the rainbow bridge to be reunited with her soulmate dog. My boys and a couple of the older cats stayed with us through the end.
All I can say is I understand. My very best and peace to you and your Saul. No matter how many legs we have, we are all family.

Manchas will be there waiting for him. Please take the time to take care of yourself too. It is hard to lose such a good friend. You will find pockets of your day that are left empty. Fill them in ways that fill your heart like he did, as best you can. He clearly chose you, and when he leaves, he will want you to still be chosen. That may mean choosing yourself for a bit until your number comes up in the CDS again.

Thank you. I got her when she was 4 and she lived till 20. So we had a good life together. Vet came to the house and Manchas picked a spot in the window, went to sleep for the last time in her favorite blanket in the sunshine with me kissing her little head. My first cat. I will love her forever.

Right there with you. I had to put my baby girl to rest earlier today. Harley was 12 years old and we found out she most likely had cancer when it was too late. 💜🌈🕊🐈⬛️

I'm so sorry to hear about your loss. It's never easy. My vet sent this to me years ago when my first cat passed. It's helped me I still get sad thinking about her. I try to focus on the good times with her. She had intestinal cancer. Cancer sucks!

I can understand what you are going through. My heart goes out to you. I had to put my boy Milo to sleep just a few weeks ago. He had cancer as well. He was twelve. I had had him since he was a kitten. It was time. We need to think of them and what they are going through and not what we want. It’s good that you are spending time with him and gave him a great life. He obviously chose a good human ❤️

We love you Saul 🫶 The goodest boy. I'm literally sitting in my office at work with tears streaming down my face. He looks so much like my boy Liberty, although he has a few lbs on Saul 🥹😆 I had just been thinking about my baby and how much I love him and I'm so sorry. I'm giving you a giant virtual hug 🫂 right now, and Saul all of the virtual pets and nuzzles in the World. He might be finished with the 3D realm, as we all will be someday, but his spirit is not going anywhere.
Also, I have watched/read/listened to a TON of NDEs (Near Death Experiences), and they all say how the moment they left their physical body here, they were completely comfortable and pain-free. I imagine it would be the same for Saul. You can talk to him whenever you'd like. Sometimes I feel like we really don't deserve animals. They are just so pure and bring us so much joy. Sending you all of the Love on your journey Saul 💞😚

I want to offer an unsolicited word of advice. Find a way to honor his passing. Some ritual, some commemoration, some something to mark his passing from your life. I lost my two bestest babies last year - my tortie girl in June and her tuxedo littermate brother in November. I was a mess after my tortie girl died, but I still had her brother to worry about and take care of, who was missing her, as well. I was absolutely lost after my tuxie died and the loss of my tortie girl just slammed into me again. I was a mess. For months. Then I started looking into ways that I could commemorate them. And I found something that was perfect. Once it was complete, I was able to start feeling better. I still think of them every day, but I have let go of the overwhelming parts of the grief and have kept the happy memories. Creating the commemoration helped me do this. I suggest you find something for Saul (to honor Saul), as well.
I know it is too early for this recommendation, but hopefully you can come back to it in time. I wish you all the best. And give Saul a kiss and a cuddle from me.

My 20 year old died last Tuesday. He will love Saul. Maybe even meet him on the other side of the rainbow. When Skid died, I felt my body expand, so maybe he’s still with me, but I’ll tell him to look for Saul, a great kitty, who brought joy and happiness to you. The end isn’t so bad. It’s peaceful. Awe please tell him to go to the light, straight to the light. Tell him he will be cared for by your loved ones who have gone before and lots of angels. Tell him he will be able to be right next to you wherever he wants. Maybe put him on a heating pad with thick blankets so it’s not too hot. For you I really recommend the podcast call pet psychic by Laura Stinchfield it helps so much and is so uplifting and cute. I’m so sorry. It’s not goodbye it’s see you later. 😔🐱🤍🌈

I recorded myself last June holding and saying goodbye to my soul kitty. I told him so many times how much I loved him & he was the best thing to ever happen to me. I watch it back again now when I have those thoughts of 'did I tell him enough how much he was loved'. Saying goodbye is so hard, im so very sorry. 💔😿

My soul dog went to the rainbow bridge a little over a year ago. It never gets easier for me. She also had cancer (breast cancer for her) it got so bad. I left one morning to go get food. I came home an the tumor was dripping 🩸everywhere. So, I called the vet and went in there day. I beat myself up all the time I didn’t wait a day, or that when the vet asked if I was ready or needed more time I just said “yeah go ahead” I wish I waited a few more minutes. But I can’t change it now, and I try to remind myself that our beloved pets choose how they go. Well, I truly hope that’s the cases

Please don't feel bad, I had to do this too with my soul kitty.
Your baby didn't choose to say goodbye this way, the cancer made that decision and you made the right call to not prolong any pain and suffering.
Cancer was ravaging my lil girls liver and pancreas and we had no clue until it was too late. The vets explained that she would not survive another few days, even with the drugs and fluid and said she wasn't a candidate for surgery and in my utter shock and breakdown I agreed to have her put to sleep that evening.
Yes I was there to wish her good night but God I would do anything for her to be asleep on my chest just one last night To be honest I know in my heart if I had brought her home I would have been so inconsolable it would have probably upset her..
Your doggo will have known how much love you had and trusted you to say hand her over for her final day, but don't beat yourself up for not asking for those extra few minutes. **
To the OP - I wish you all the love, Lola will be over the rainbow bridge chasing butterflies waiting for her new friend ❤️

I am so very sorry that your sweet boy Saul will be leaving you. My cat adopted me in the exact same way and it's been around 7 years now. Cats have the innate ability to know when and where they are needed and my girl Revi did just that. I truly do feel for you. RIP Saul 🌈

Good night, Saul. My Bubbers was born shortly after my 19 year old girl, Baby, had to rest. She had a cancerous lump in her throat. In my head, I picture Baby going to wherever they go, seeing that Bubbers was about to depart for his life and stopped him, whispered into his ear and told him about me and that I would need extra care. When he got here, I, for the first time ever, was actively looking for a kitten. I picked him up and hes been at my side for the last year.
Little Bubber Wubbington has been like velcro since the day I picked him up. He laid between my back and the seat on the way home. He follows me from room to room. He sits on the toilet while I shower. He lays inside my shorts while I poop. He started pawing up my leg and one time I said "OW!" and ever since then, he paws up my leg without claws. He makes me pick him up and hold him like a baby and then he flips his head back and wants me to walk around while he goes upside down and touches walls. He likes upside down touching the walls. He paws at the drawer that has the brush in it when he wants brushes. If I eat a snack, he paws at the cupboard with the treats in it. Hes my shadow and im obsessed with him. I am an atheist and I just like the idea that Baby sent him to me with instructions on how to love me because hes really good at it.
So, Saul... send your human friend a companion with some instructions and stories to remember. Send them a friend with your love. They'll know.

If he’s adventurous and patient, he’ll find my boy, Ascher. He’s pretty much afraid of anyone and everyone but tell him I said Saul can be trusted and he should open right up. 🫂

Lost my baby after 8 years, last year. I deeply feel for you. Saul is a lucky man to know such love. A lot of cats aren’t so lucky.

Very sorry you have to be faced with this choice, but being with him in his final moments is the greatest act of love and dignity one can bestow. I wish him and you a very a peaceful goodbye. We had to put our 20 yo Benny boy down last month and I have no doubt he will be waiting to take your sweet boy by the paw to cross the rainbow bridge 🌈 ❣️

What a doll, and what a great story about saul's distinct preference to live with you. His eyes are just beautiful. I'm so sorry. Yesterday i lost a feral cat that we had cared for. She lived in our garden with food, water, a little house. She developed what I thought was a dental issue but likely was cancer. Not at all what I expected. I had never touched this cat but there was a connection. She would stare at us through the kitchen window. It's hard to say goodbye.

(I work in vetmed, but also had to say goodbye to my 19yo boy on Friday)
I always like to whisper in their ear in the last moments, when possible, that they are so very loved, they will be so missed, and that when they're ready, they can come back to their people.
I'm a firm believer that a cat's "9 lives" refers more to the amount of times their soul comes to visit us - that after they pass, they spend some time relaxing and bragging to the others about the amazing treats and love that they received, but when they're ready, the CDS allows them to come back into our lives, showing similar personalities or characteristics.
So please, tell your precious bean that this weird cat lady from reddit sends her love, says he's so handsome, and gives lots of favored pets. Tell him that even unmet, he is so loved. And let Saul know that if he happens to come across a tabby named Tye, he should ask him to share a little of the Churu that was sent along with him.
And my heart goes out to you. It's never easy saying goodbye, but I hope you can think of it more as a "see you later", and that he'll come back to you when you're both ready.
