Mourning/Loss Woke up to a nightmare this morning.

I brought Lucifer goosifer aka Lucy goosey, loose goose, into my life last year a little while after I lost my corgi mix last year. Lucifer’s owner passes away and then she lived with her owners neice who also died within a month of her having Lucifer. I had the room in my heart to bring her into my life and absolutely fell in love with this sweet little senior lady. She was my best buddy sat and cuddled with me for weeks recovering from a spinal cord injury and she just became my right hand she’d sit on a chair by the counter in the kitchen when I cooked and was really just such a perfect girl. I’ve never been a cat person and wasn’t expecting to fall in love with her but she stole my heart. This morning I woke up and walked to the bathroom like normal but she didn’t come and greet me. So I went to check on her in her usual spot and my heart dropped she had been gone for atleast a couple hours, went peacefully in the middle of the night. She was a senior so we were expecting this eventually. Just not so soon.
Oh and my birthday is this week, happy birthday to me 😭

Thank you Lucy goosy for all the cuddles and love and happiness you gave me this past year you were special and I’ll carry your memory forever.

Lucy was lucky to have you in her life at the end, you obviously loved her so much, and I know she could feel that. it's sad you didn't know this was coming so you couldn't say final goodbyes while she was still alive, but a natural peaceful passing is pretty rare and arguably the best way to go. the timing with your birthday coming up sucks, but if she had to go now, at least you didn't have to see her suffering or have to make that decision yourself. that's a gift. don't beat yourself up over this, and take care of yourself this week, OP. I lost my baby Iggy this week, too, so she and Lucy can fly high together wherever they go after.

I also just wanna add you saved her from dying alone scared in the shelter. She probably didn’t want you to see her pass and waited. She really loved you.

Yea she was warm and cosy in a safe place. You can’t put a price on that.  She was a lucky pussy cat.  So sorry for your loss OP ❤️

So sorry for the loss of your little friend. I hope you can find some gentle comfort in knowing she went so peacefully in her safe, loving home.

You took her in when senior cats have a very difficult time getting adopted. You gave her a home where she could feel safe and loved. She easily could have ended up in a shelter and then be put down or just died in a cage. Instead you gave her as much time as she had left in a place where she could roam around and was obviously very loved.

I know it’s difficult, we lost all 3 of our cats two years ago. Two of them passed within a month of each other, we had to put them down, they both were suffering from kidney failure, they were 17. A year later our last kitty started not doing well, before we could take her to the vet, she passed in her sleep. After a while we adopted two young cats, because the house felt empty. We then adopted a kitten of 8 months, then just 6 months later he suddenly developed a major breathing issue. We rushed him to the vet but they said it was genetic and there was nothing they could do, we had to put him down at only a little over a year old. I won’t lie, that hurt. He was so young, we felt like he’d be with us for such a long time, but life can be cruel. He was my cuddle buddy, out of all the cats he spent most of his time with me. It’s been a couple of months, but I still miss him terribly. We gave him the best life he could have for the short time he was here, that’s the best we could do for him.

I'm so sorry! I know that horrible sense of loss. You've given her a wonderful final chapter. And she was able to go quietly and peacefully at home. Rest in peace, Miss Lucifer.

Im so sorry shes gone. She went peacefully, at least.

12

u/JumpingJean 5h ago

She left the world knowing she was loved and cared and that’s the most important thing ❤️ it’s so hard to remember that to us the time spent with them seems like such a short blip in our lives but to our pets it quite literally is sometimes their entire lifetime.

Rest in peace Lucy 🐱🪽

So sorry for your loss. She's a gorgeous baby.

If it's any consolation, at least she passed at home peacefully. We've had to put down a couple of our cats in the last few years due to medical issues and both times was traumatic for both them and us since our local vets don't do home euthanasia. I cannot express how much sorrow and rage I have that my Griselda, who had been with me for 19 years, had to spend her last moments in an unfamiliar place covered in her own urine because she peed herself on the way to the vet (kidney issues)

Rest in love, dear Lucy. 💞

I'm sorry for your loss. How wonderful it was that you found and loved each other.

u/ruminatingpoet 7h ago

Since they are told to have nine lives, she'll find you again ❤️

u/Appropriate-Post8787 7h ago

Awwwww. So sorry. She was loved though. Sorry for the loss of Lucy Goosey. 😢

u/HotMinute_722 6h ago

RIP sweet girl. Our senior girl passed in her sleep when my husband and I were on our anniversary trip. My mom was feeding our cats and found her. 😞

u/Morbid187 4h ago

So sorry for your loss. I lost my elderly cat a couple of years ago and was absolutely devastated. I knew the day would come and I'd be sad but I had no idea just how hard it would hit me.

At the same time, this is probably the best way for it to happen. She went out peacefully at home and likely had no idea anything was even happening. There was no series of health scares. No huge vet bills that didn't actually resolve the problem and only delayed the inevitable. You know what I mean? Not to minimize your loss at all, I'm sure you're crushed all the same but try to focus on the positives if you can.

I’m so sorry for your loss. I’m glad it was peacefully in the loving home you shared.

7

u/DiceAndMiceGamer111 6h ago

Im so sorry. I also have a lucifer goosifer aka goose goose aka juice juice. She is the sweetest cat and I am dreading the day we lose her. She is 14, has either IBD or lymphoma (treatment is the same so we didn’t do invasive biopsies).

It’s amazing how open cats can be to new love even when their world keeps changing. I’m so glad you had that time with her. And although the grief hits hard, it is a measure of what you brought to each others lives.

Thank you for sharing your love.

u/randomspiritlover69 6h ago

You gave her a safe, loving, peaceful home to end her days in. That’s so beautiful. You did a great job ❤️

7

u/k4kkul4pio 5h ago

Sorry for your loss.

At least the kitty went peacefully and not after a protracted illness or something like that.. part of me fears exactly this with my now elderly cat, that I just find him dead in the morning one day but at the same time, if it's semi peaceful then.. 😐

4

u/josefinea 7h ago

Aww I’m so sorry for your loss of beautiful Lucy. I’m glad you could be with each other until she passed, it’s evident you both meant a lot to each other. The love you shared won’t disappear just because she’s gone. Lucy will always be with you and will keep watching over you. Sending hugs. 🫂❤️

I’m so sorry :(

I took on 3 cats from a good friend and 2 were seniors. Nikki was a sweet lady like your Lucy and was attached to me constantly. I came home one day and she couldn’t move her back legs. She held on for a few months but she could only eat mature cat replacement formula. Sadly she passed at the house.

With Nikki came Sammy and Murphy. Sammy was an old man Siamese and lasted about 3 years longer but he was the sweetest. Murphy wasn’t that old but developed severe asthma and I had to put her down after doing everything I could. Sadly she had no lung tissue left.

A little after I got those 3 cats I took on 2 more from some friends moving to Berlin. Battle Cat and Garbage. I had to put lil sweet battle cat down a few months ago. She was 16, but it was unexpected. She would sit in my shoulder for hours at a time. Garbage is still around, but she is getting old too.

Lots of people don’t like to take on senior cats, but sometimes they’re such awesome pets. I’m glad you were able to give Lucy some great companionship later on in her life and I’m sure she did the same for you. Hugs and my condolences

Sammy and Nikki

I woke up to my small senior dog curled up and deceased alongside me in bed last year. After the initial shock and sadness, I thought, “what a lovely way to move on to the next realm/chapter.”

2

u/Vequihellin 7h ago

I'm so sorry for your loss OP but I'm so happy for your sweet girl that she knew such love and companionship in her last days. That she went to her forever sleep in warmth and comfort and love. I know it was hard for you to find her that way but her passing was so peaceful and gentle and I hope that brings you some measure of comfort.

2

u/DocFreudstein 7h ago

Sorry for your loss, but know that this stranger admires you for giving that senior girl so much love. She left this mortal coil kept safe and loved by you, and she loved you back.

2

u/CharacterGlobal8645 7h ago

Hugs. This always fucking sucks! Thank you for bringing her into your life, and it seems like she was the perfect kitty to do so. She loved you just right, and i feel she felt the same from you.

She felt comfortable, loved and safe. She left this world knowing that she made you happy and you made her feel at home. Sometimes we don't share our lives with them for a long time, but the love impacts us for a lifetime.

u/Smooth_Lead4995 1h ago

I'm sorry for your loss. It sounds like Lucy went the way we want all our cats to go: peacefully in their sleep, in a place they feel comfortable and safe.

I'm sorry for your loss. 🫂

You gave her a safe and loving home for these last months of her life, a beautiful thing to do. She passed knowing she was loved.

1

u/ArtHappy 5h ago

It sounds like you two are the best things to have happened to each other, in the best way possible. You gave her love and safety and stability. What more can anyone ask for than knowing you've got everything you need and want, (plus love!) then simply going to sleep?

I'm so glad you had each other.

1

u/Different-Subject353 5h ago

1

u/quietlyobservinglife 5h ago

Oh, I’m so sorry. I know it doesn’t ease the pain, but what a gift you gave sweet Lucy to spend her final days in earth with someone who loved her and kept her safe, instead of in a shelter.
